Race fuel: The truth! We dyno test pump fuel against Gulf Racing 102 and the results are shocking!

  • Is it worth spending the extra money for race fuel, even if you have a stock bike? Or is super-unleaded pump fuel good enough?
    We take a brand new stock 2022 Husqvarna FC450 four-stroke and a mildly tuned TC250 two-stroke and try fresh pump fuel versus Gulf Racing 102 back-to-back on the dyno with a stock ECU map and then with a remapped GET ECU. And the results are truly surprising.
    And no, this video isn't sponsored by Gulf!

    Agree, have the GET on a KX450 and with a JE Pro piston (13.5:1) and stage 2 hotcams the difference is massive. More torque, more over- rev and smoother.

    Doesn’t smell like race fuel more like BS. Should have ran both fuel without ecu. Then tuned the ecu with both fuels.

    So the REAL question is, do they mix 95 octane and 100% Ethanol or do they use under 95octane poor quality fuel and calculate the approx octane rating after adding the 10% ethanol? For example before EU shit: 95E, after EU: 92-93octane cheap and poor quality+10% E=95octane mix?

    Most people have zero need for any race fuel when they ride around at 1/4 throttle. Same for engine mods and pipes etc, because a fast kid on a 65cc can smoke most with a 450.

      @martin barr's CRF450 I'll be honest there are kids on 65s that are way faster than weekend warrior guys that are on bigger bikes. It's all comparative though and it also depends on your definition and opinion of a novice 450 rider.

    Heavier, more dense compounds promote mpg. Lighter compounds, less dense compounds and those with attached oxygens reduce mpg.
    More carbons in an atom = more mpg.

    Is a leaded or oxygenated race fuel better performing on the two stroke, especially if you run a high compression head insert?

    • @P00P_
      @P00P_ Před 2 lety

      Oxygenated fuel is always better from what I heard. I have a 2 stroke ktm and 4 stroke Yamaha (Yamaha is bone stock). I run Sunoco 110 mix with 93 pump gas and I also add Vp unleaded additive in my 4 stroke and the leaded additive for my 2 stroke. I don’t think you’ll notice a difference running leaded fuel or oxygenated fuel (one or the other not mixed).

    • @Shoorit

      Ethanol is less energy dense when compared to petrol (gasoline) it burns hotter than petrol and it’s also more aggressive on the fuel system..(gaskets, seals and other plastic parts)

    Interesting vid, but these race teams are crack up really.... trying to get "more power" out of a 450.... reality is most pro riders want a stock or de-tuned engine on the 450. Riding a 450 fast is all about slowing them down haha.... counter intuitive but they are such a pig of a bike its true

    • @davewillet4764
      @davewillet4764 Před 2 lety

      I hear you and agree to a point however most factory teams build a engine which is faster and more rideable believe it or not 👍🏻

    • @daniellewis6976
      @daniellewis6976 Před 2 lety

      @@davewillet4764 Yeah i would say a pro rider could ride a fairly stock bike just as fast, but not for long. It seems the factory teams objective now days is to tune the power curve/chassis/suspension/rider relationship so as the bike is more forgiving, and can be ridden fast the entire moto. You can see it in say MXGP, the non factory riders are fast for half the moto and then fade... the factory boys are fast the entire moto, their bikes are more forgiving of mistakes and just easier to ride fast... I feel since 450's came in, a factory bike is absolutely a big advantage

      @@daniellewis6976 with Tomac, the team has a base map that they use and change to suit a rider and Tomac is the first person that has asked for more power instead of a de-tune.
      Also, these team aren’t just looking for HP gain they are working on a dyno to create a map that suits their riders.
