      Agree - but the cammer could have done more to avoid a collision, such as understanding that he's in the blind spot, and either pushing ahead or dropping back. He'd already done a bunch of hard work by moving over to make space for the joining traffic.

    #13 classic example of an entitled motorist looking down their nose at cyclists. Too busy trying to overtake them and not paying attention to what's actually happening in the road. He gave the driver plenty of notice that he was planning to take that turn, no different to another car or larger vehicle taking the same turn. Also the typical "Good job I wasn't speeding" line proves the driver thinks the cyclist's somehow expected to defer to him on the road and doesn't think he's responsible for his own actions.

      Thats why checking mirrors is always important. The RR driver should have seen the car flying up from behind as the road narrows and would have been so much easier all round to just let them pass, let them get on their way and maintain a safe distance. Too many drivers take it personally when someone gets in front. What does it matter if they get ahead ? They aren’t going to the same destination, its not a race. It actually makes no sense whatsoever why this irritates some people. No logic to it whatsoever.

    Surely, if you are entering a motorway or dual carriageway, you must give priority to traffic already on the main road. To many drivers don't know how to merge in to traffic. .any believe giving a right signal give them the right to join even if someone is alongside. You can't expect drivers to move to the right to let you on. Ther may be another vehicle to the right preventing it.
    Read the Highway Code. Its all there.

      All true. But the cammer didn't do very well there either. The barrier was obstructing the merging cars view, and then by changing lanes they kept themselves in the merging cars blind spot longer. Not an excuse for the merging car not to look, but the cammer almost perfectly minimised opportunities for the merging car to spot them.
      Spotting a potential conflict with merging traffic on the motorway is one of the easiest bits of defensive driving to pick up. the traffic is going in the same direction, so you have lots of time. And there is a strong visual cue, the other car will be getting larger but not moving relative to the frame of reference of your dash.

    People keep telling me it's a courtesy to move over to lane 2 to allow merging traffic in, However the amount of videos I see, where someone does this and is then repaid by having that same pleb sideswipe them, I'd rather just stay in lane 1 and not let them in.

    • @goodguykonrad3701

      If you're talking about 0:47 (#3), just don't be an idiot like the cammer. Very clearly just sitting in that person's blindspot. No excuse for the Peugeot driver to not just look properly, but as drivers we need to be aware of whether or not we've been seen, and do something about it instead of letting a collision happen. That cammer should have sped up, slowed down, or sounded their horn, instead of just sitting their like a lobotomised lemming.

    • @chrisjlocke
      @chrisjlocke Před měsícem +1

      The trouble is in lane 2, you're in their blind spot. If you adjust accordingly and drive defensively, these sort of accidents can be avoided, but most drivers just sit there and go, 'well, I was in the right .. I'm not going to adjust my speed', etc.

    • @burgersnchips
      @burgersnchips Před měsícem +1

      It's the responsibility of the merging vehicle to find a gap.
      I don't care who thinks it's "polite" to move over, I'll sit where I am, not overtaking therefore predictably in lane 1, being extra predictable on cruise at between 67 and 70.
      If someone can't find a gap around that to merge safely then that's entirely their failing, not mine. I would and do expect the same when I join.

    • @goodguykonrad3701
      @goodguykonrad3701 Před měsícem

      @@burgersnchips I mean, yeah, but it's also not difficult to do. You often don't need to move over and sometimes you can't help it, but saying you won't move over and it's solely the emerging vehicles problem is poor, even if it's not actually illegal. There are more reasons to move over beyond it just being nice.
      Firstly, when traffic is heavy, cooperative driving in general means better traffic flow. That means queues are reduced, resulting in less fuel being wasted and shorter journey times. Those things are good for the environment and good for the economy. It's something that is less evident in one instance but if everyone was driving cooperatively then this tiny effect adds up.
      Additionally, safety is increased if you move over. Ensuring someone isn't forced to stop, or significantly slow down, on a slip road means the risk of rear end collision on the slip road is reduced for them, and there is also less danger if they are not trying to accelerate onto a carriageway from a stopped position. The danger to you is also reduced as by positioning further over you have more time to react to what they do. If you are directly alongside them, they could be the sort of person to just force themselves out anyway, risking a collision. In that kind of situation you may not be culpable but you could also be dead. Or some innocent motorcyclist could be dead because they just happened to be nearby when it happens. Unlikely scenarios but lots of the things you do with driving are about ensuring the unlikely doesn't happen.
      When traffic is busy it may not be possible to find a gap without people moving over to lane 2 to make space. Think about what happens if there are lorries or other slow accelerating vehicles trying to emerge. And if everyone took your attitude and just stayed in lane 1, slip roads would be constantly backed up as no one would be able to emerge for a couple hours at busy times.
      Again, there are plenty of times when it is better to stay in your lane and not move out, and if traffic is light or the relative speeds of vehicles is right it isn't necessary. And yes, regardless of everything I've said, the emerging vehicle still has the final responsibility to ensure a safe emerge, I don't dispute that. But what exactly does refusing to move over accomplish? In what way is it the correct thing to do?

    If there is traffic about;
    1 - Come to a stop on the side of the road.
    2 - Wait till it's clear before signalling and cycling to the centre.
    3 - When safe, cross the road where the oncoming traffic.
    It seems now, that cyclists just stick out their hand, if at all, and then do what they want to do expecting every other road user to avoid them.

    Clip 5 - incident caused primarily by truck driver - watch carefully : his attention is down at his lap - highly probable he was illegally using a mobile device most likely texting , which is illegal , hence oblivious to traffic ahead moving off ; when he eventually did move and driver behind began to overtake , he clearly accelerated to prevent overtake and also swerved out to obstruct the overtake - truck driver was at fault for this incident and should have been charged with dangerous driving .
    Clip 6 - it is permissible to cross a pavement to enter premises , nothing says you have to wait until perpendicular to the entrance before crossing the pavement - nothing to answer for here
    Clip 7 - non event

That is a casualty looking for a trip to hospital . the second cyclist did NOT have to follow him and could have waited in the lay-by to left until safe . No he signalled as the car was already starting to over take. Personally i feel like bicycles should have indicators on them and not just relay on hand signals.

      So signalling gave them the right of way?

      the cammer should have slowed down and paid attention to the situation

      The driver should have slowed as soon as he saw the right turn signal by the cyclist. The cyclist however should be positioned nearer the middle of the road if he intends to turn right.

      @@TheSeafordianno, being in front of them on the road gives the priority.

      No later he was bundled into the back of a Ford Transit .. blind folded .. got kneecapped so he couldn't run away ... taken to an old warehouse ..where he was strapped to a chair ... where alongside him where various hammers, drills , knives, belts and other stuff .. afterwards he was driven blindfolded down the M62 to a random location .. dropped off and said Transit drove away .... At least he won't be on the road for quite some time .. given that he has to crawl to get help and he won't be in a fit state to do anything for a long long time .
      I presume you wanted something like that as punishment for the 45yr old .. did you ?? not that it has anything to do with YOU what the Courts decided ..
