It is in the interest of both parties to improve bi-lateral ties and trade. It is win win for both parties. But the West always see its relationship with the Global South from a position of strength and superiority. Is this mindset grounded in reality today?

Who wants "independence"? - The vast majority? Who wants a "new Cold War"? - Very few?
Who wants more choices? - The vast majority? Who brings more choices? - A "multipolar world". Multi-polar checks and balances give third parties more choices and rights.
Historically it brings more fault lines of conflict. The last time the world was substantially multipolar were the years leading into WW2.

And it is also impossible to stop the world from becoming multi-polar as equity will be achieved. I know the UN is stupid but if its powers are enhanced and properly regulated, multi-polarity can be sustained easily. It is actually the better thing to happen.

France always views itself different from other European countries, one reason being that it's an ex-great power (France is one of the 5 exclusive permanent members of the Security Council in the UN). For the EU, I think it's France that they need to watch out for.

To normalize relationships with the EU 🇪🇺, China needs to:
- cancel the "No Limits" agreement with Russia,
- stop undermining EU sanctions against Russia,
- talk with Taiwan president Lai Ching-te on an equal basis,
- open independently a study into Wuhan pandemic,
*- stop atrocity of Tibetans and Uyghurs,*
- obey the Hague Tribunal 2016's decision on the SCS,
- Leave European intellectual properties alone, and
*- stop unfair overcapacity exports to EU.*
Make no mistake, China is the rising power while Europe is a declining one. So I don't think France of Europe is in any position to dictate China around lol.
