  • China aims to be global leader in artificial intelligence (AI) and renewable energy. It has doubled down on investments and infrastructure support for these sectors - to rival the US.
But China’s growing dominance has also got some countries worried. The US-China trade war intensified last August, when President Joe Biden banned the export of advanced chips to China. The EU also has plans to ban Chinese solar panels.
China also faces barriers in AI advancement. From data security concerns to the US’ export controls on semiconductor technologies - can China emerge as the new global superpower?

Just by population size alone, china has many more geniuses, scientists, researchers, engineers etc, invest more in R&D, has better government support, bigger market and a culture of diligence/discipline entirely lacking in the USA. Let’s be fair and honest:
Clean energy: China is way ahead in every aspect: tech (solar panel etc), infra (deployment of tons of solar panel and wind mills), utilization (ev cars, buses, bikes etc). Moreover China govt is continuing promoting clean energy while the us are hesitating. Trump and republican expressed willingness to shift ev cars back to ICE cars.
AI: US is leading in new methodology and slight leading in the model training. China needs more gpu chips to catch up on large language model training. However China is leading in the utilization of AI. What most foreigner don’t know is that China already has some smart cars (e.g. some Huawei cars) that can do the autonomous driving pretty well. There are also autonomous buses that are being used in daily life.

AI isn't only about large language models like CNA insider talks about.
China will mostly use AI for robotics & automation which China has a great advantage in because of it's advantages in sensor fusion. A lot of the technologies used in EV's are extremely helpful for automatizing factories. Additionally, other sensor technologies used in EV's can greatly be used in drones such as LiDar and other radar systems. This is one thing that China will have an advantage in no matter how efficient a large language model is.
On the other hand, the US will mostly use AI for generated models and for consumptional use through advertisements.

@@levvz6113 That's still just software. The hardware of a robot, which dictates its ability to interact with the environment through sensors is incredibly important. Additionally, the movement of a robot is also important. For example, the Unitree robot that did the backflip is already on par, if not better than Boston Dynamic's robot because it uses electric actuators rather than mechanical which makes it more energy efficient. Generated models will only bring some benefits, like the ability to communicate and do some difficult tasks. But, it's important to know that AI has already been used for robotics and automation for a very long time but, despite this, what's really more important is the sensor fusion and how the robot interacts with the environment because if it is bad interactions then that's just bad data for the AI to learn from. This is why sensor fusion is incredibly important and while AI may help in dealing with bad sensor fusion, it isn't the solution to it.

Clearly the Electic/Hydrogen technology is not quite there yet for every need. But I can see a realistic chance to apply these technologies to the big US cities in the initial stages. Clearly EV vehicles are not practical for folks who live way out in the countryside. It will take a long time to roll out the infatructure and convert Fuel stations too EV charging ports. But in a city environment smaller EV vehicles are probably something that can be done right now. They will work very well to reduce emmissions in urban environments and their small size will reduce congestion. For folks who rely on public transport in the cities Hydrogen powered Bus services are a pragmatic and fast way to begin the conversion process. Taking a short trip accross the city in an EV is completley doable right now. Ok EV's are not that fast when used at their most efficient settings but when was the last time you raced through Manhattan city at over 60 MPH? Its time to do what can be done in a practical way right now and conserve hydrocarbon fuels for the more remote setlements where the use of Electic vehicles is not yet fully practical.

In green tech, China leads, but points needed to be deducted for also increasing its use of dirty enegy at the same time, which is why despite the clean tech, its emissions is still rising due to the coal plants. In comparions, US and europe are not as advanced in green tech, but gain points for actually reducing emissions every year.
In pure terms of technology, US is clearly ahead in AI. China might be trying to apply more industrial use of automation, but the level of those tech are not on par with the US AI. Those industrial automation is mostly algorithm based, for example self driving cars and busses which both countries have had for many years now. But China is behind US significantly in term of generative AI, such as GPT, Sora, Figure 1, which are getting closer to true general AI. The gap between China and US is currently widening in this true AI development area.

We are living in the Era of The American Empire,
We are also living in the Era of Neo Colonialism(indirect control),
We are also living in the era of Weasel politicians, who would bow down to anyone with money.
And America is the queen of indirect control.
Once Neo Colonialism collapses Democracies will thrive.
Basically, after the second world war America has been running from third base to fourth base and calling themselves winner of the "world series".
The era of China has begun, though the era of America is not completly lost.
China is strong but not that strong.
America is weak but not that weak.
So, in this contest America will try to use G7 countries China will try to use Brics+ (Iran and Saudi Arabia).
That tells you the era of a multi polar world is upon us.
Whoever controls the middle east controls the world, The Europeans once controlled the middle east so they ruled the world, now America controls the middle east so it controls the world, if the indications are true tomorrow China is going to control the world and global economy because they have forged a relationship with Middle East.
They are the going to be the defacto epicenter of the global economy and trade in the coming years.
Where America has reached in 240 years, China has reached there in 40 years.
    Take that American Capitalism!
The name of the game is Capitalism.
"Who knew China (Communist party of China) is going to be so good at it?"
China is winning because USA has allowed it to win, which is the biggest foreign policy blunder in the last 40 years.
China' owes "it's whole success" to a series of poor foreign policy decision by America (The West) which is to involve China in WTO and shifted evey job from Detroit to Shanghai, Apparently the wonders of capitalism was supposed to make China more "democratic" nither did that happen nor did it drive a wedge between Soviet Russia and China. It has created a more powerful China and Russia alliance. Which is extremely hard to counter for the west.
By 2030-32 China is going to become the largest economy in world which is going to be a massive change in the world and if it's goes really bad for US and it collapses then we might be ushered into a new era.
There is nothing as soft power, there is hard power and everything flows from there.
That's true for American Empire, Russia, China and the British Empire.
In America the political parties change but the policies don't change,
In China the political party don't change but the policies change all the time. Till America doesn't change course it is in for a rough ride for the next couple of decades.

Tesla would be losing sales in the USA if its old slightly remodelled models had to compete with nimble manufactures of inexpensive high quality Chinese BEV cars. Coupled with an excellent charging infrastructure in China. Currently China pays 320 billion + USD a Year for oil. If they could save half of this money and recycle the savings back into nuclear, robots, high speed trains, battery and solar China could crush the rest of the world’s manufacturers using cheap power. If they can get their power at under $.05 per kWh they own the world.
The current US plan is to stay ahead of the Chinese on the innovation front using artificial intelligence. This is one bruising brutal war that will hopefully lead to more innovation and productivity. But bodes ill for competitors of these two behemoths by getting left behind.
