A major plus for Joe Gomez is that, in the likely scenario Luke Shaw gets injured before or during the tournament, then he could fill in at left back. I think Bellingham could have a big tournament acting almost as a shadow striker when we are attacking, since Kane likes to drop deep. Surely it has to be time with this group of players.

Think it has to be a 4-2-3-1 Formation, Rice as the 6 with Trent in the role he played in the last batch of friendlies, who can also move out wide and let Walker become a third CB when they're under pressure. Front 3 of Foden, Kane and Saka, if Kane is dropping too deep the get the ball, sub Rashford on for Foden and play him and Saka up top as two wide forwards with Kane arriving late.

Trent shouldn't be anywhere near the team, long diagonal crosses into the penalty area for a tall centre forward - This is bucolic football! We are too obsessed with flank attack football, which results in aerial crosses. England is a far better team when they the ball to feet and through the middle, as we saw, often, against Belgium, and like their youth teams play.

In my opinion, to get the best out of Foden, you can't have Trent in the team. Foden likes to drive at defenders@@farouq143 and play one-twos, like he does for City. In variably with England he initiates a wall pass with a teammate and never receives the ball; it either goes to the flanks, or worse, goes back to the halfway line; this often happens even when it doesn't involve Foden. . You have to have a balance between flank football, including the diagonal cross, and the beautiful one-touch football through the middle. I think Foden is an artist, and Trent an artisan.
Trent is a liability on defense, period. That’s why he doesn’t play
If you seek success, the bench should get the same attention as the starting 11. Zidane said this during a winning UCL season.

You can't have Maguire in a high line defence. Old Slugalug, the giant tortoise, is a liability. If Southgate wants to be more expansive, which judging by the last 2 games he does, then he needs to add pace to the back line
What I do like that your lineup is if it’s a game, you need your creativity from midfield you can put James Madison or Phil Foden as an eight if you need extra pairs, you can put Marcus Anthony Gordon on the left if we’re a team and you just need a delivery you can stick Trent Alexander-Arnold onto Wick Crossingif your legs are absolutely gone and you need you need a counterpart you’ve got Gallagher
I love Foden, but he's far from the best player in the premier league. I'd actually say that his development is being stunted at City and he should look to be a starting winger at another club if he wants to take his game to the next level. Look at his same age counterpart Saka who started out as less of a prospect than Foden, but is now a clear level above Foden in performance by being the main man for Arsenal for 2 seasons.
Tbf now pep is giving foden a chance and the second he became a full time starter he’s being hailed as the best in the league

Back line is poor. Chilwell and Stones can get injury at any time and gomez is average. No balance in the midfield as well. I think if you look at big teams like france or portugal england is still behaind them.
How on earth both Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Fikayo Tomori are not even at the team are criminal! This shows Southgate are not just limited on tactics and game management but also football knowledge the fact both players done very well at AC Milan and AC is doing well at Serie A.

It did not just "dawn on you" that the "best" players in Europe are English. You've been saying this constantly. Also, no team "should" win this tournament. It's a TOURNAMENT. While not all teams have an equal chance of winning based on squad value and opponent quality, every team has a fair opportunity to do their best for their nation. Rory, this tournament is about being the best team on the pitch as much as it is about which team is the best on paper to go on and win the trophy.

I understand some England fans having questions over Jordan Pickford. However, as an Evertonian who watches him every week, there isn't many goalkeepers in world football who I would swap him for. Just because he plays for us and not one of the 'big six', or that his Fifa card is average are not reasons for fans to assume that he isnt good enough. I also belive every goalkeeper will make mistakes playing out from the back eventually as its a flawed system. He never gives the ball away at club level as Sean Dyche doesn't ask him to do that. He is the clear and obvious number one!

My Gk would be Ramsdale because I think he is a better ball distributor which is a more focused skill in EPL.
My 1st choice LCB would be Tomori, not picking him to join the squad is ridiculous.
RCM would be Foden to interchange position with Saka when he cut inside.
LCM would be Bellingham as advance CM to interchange position with Kane when he drop back as false 9.
LB should be Shaw but if not then Gomez, basically LB who can comfortably move to CB at times.
LW will be Sterling or Rashford. The best ball carrier and best 1v1 performance.
Playstyle will be similar to ManCity and the players to go with it.
We have so much talent but we have a inept manager who has no tactics and his in game management is appalling. Against France, England were drawing 1-1 Saka was Englands best player he was wreaking havoc down that right flank and Theo Hernandez couldn’t live with him and he subbed him off when they needed a goal for sterling, somebody that had been back and forth dealing with his house robbery. How are people that defend Southgate justifying subbing of your best player for someone that had been back and forth

while i do think there's a good talent in cb in Branthwaite but it baffles me how people forget Maguire's been one of the best defender for the past 3 tournaments and hasn't put a foot wrong in the England shirt! Maguire for me is a guaranteed starter alongside Stones and there partnership has been excellent too so far so why change it

Curtis Jones has done everything Mainoo has and more. Helped run the show for the U21's, integral to Liverpool's midfield this season.
Mainoo has more talent in his big toe than Jones has in his whole body . Jones is a very talented footballer but he is very flawed .
Jones is press resistant but he runs around in circles and plays a side ways pass or the wrong ball . He is a very frustrating player to watch .
And running the show at 23 in the u21's isn't very impressive . That's kids football.

If it were my choice, for a short knockout tournament like this and from the pool of players we have available I'd play with two strikers. I don't see any defence that can handle that much fire power ...

My choice for cb is tomori. Our weakness in past games has been fast players on the break, and tomori has absolutely amazing recovery pace. This will allow us to play a high line at the back and compress the midfield.
Goalies should not take risks , and automatically play short.
They need to know when to just hoof it upfield.
With so many good players on the bench, and 5 subs allowed ,Gareth can come up with a plan B strategy if the game is not going well.
Bowen, Gordon, Toney , and Palmer have all been very impressive for me, and it would be crazy not to use them.
Look how Sarina used subs to affect the games, in the womens Euros.
In overall play I would give it to Valverde or grizmann. they are more consistent good throughout every minute of the game. In prem I think VVD is the best player in prem ,I think CB always gets overlooked and he has been fenomenal. In the Bundesliga I can't really comment because of the lak of knowledge

I really think England should play TTA at leftback. Coming into the midfield from leftback, the guy can find anyone on the pitch and will have a back 3 of stones,walker,gomez helping him.

Around 2008-2010 France also had the best strikers/players in 3 major Europeans leagues (EPL, LaLiga and Calcio if I remember correctly), and we thought that would guaranty us success, but instead we just failed miserably.
The talent does not just add-up, it needs cohesion, spirit, altruism, chemistry to cement a successful team.

Yet, there are faster CH s who are also good headers.
Midfield is not a concern, Bellingham goes from the 10 to 8 next to rice, and play foden at the 10

TAA isn't a natural midfielder. He can cover there, but he shouldn't start there. He should only start at RB or LB. His defensive deficiencies will be exposed to a disgusting degree against the stronger teams.

I still think having Maddison in as the creative mid over Mainoo and having Jude and Rice as the CMs is the way to go. while Jude is an amazing athlete, he just doesn’t have the creativity necessary to progress England. The only reason it works for him in Madrid is bc they have no Striker, he essentially is the striker, so when you have Kane in that position everything is just so much different.
I love there is no thought to what to do with LB. Chilwell is awful and Shaw is always injured
Shame Colwill hasn’t kicked on since being back at Chelsea. Think him and Stones would work really well together.

Jesus, this clown wants to go into a tournament with a center back partnership that's barley played together. The area of the pitch where a good understanding is crucial. Keep Southgate and keep Maguire and if they fail in this tournament get rid of them. But don't change things now, Argentina just won a world cup with some very average players but they played a lot as a TEAM
