Awesome. Those soft lights really add a depth to the tokonoma display. Very cool to see everything that goes into Bonsai, including all the woodwork and hard graft. One day, I’ll come and see this all in person.

I agree. Initially I thought of boxing in the base with a removable face. Would create a hidden storage space. However it may make the Tokonoma look a bit too boxy.

It’s looks good . One suggestion if I may, As you said that it’s should need to hold your big and heavy bonsai. I’m suggesting to put one more support in the middle part that more gives more security when displaying your heaviest bonsai. Extending our regards here in Toronto :)

Somehow that space looks a lot bigger than before. I would've gone with a square profile post for the trim in the back, just to cover the corner a bit better. Than again it might have created some weird shadows so it's all about compromises I guess. Really looking forward to your next display.

  • @evfast

When you're dealing with cuts along an edge, in this case the upright post, with drywall you can just run a utility knife along the post as a guide and score the drywall surface. Then snap the drywall back and finish the cut on the opposite side with the knife. It will give a perfectly uniform edge to work with. Way faster than using a drywall saw for the entire 8' ;)

    El pabellón del vacío
    José Lezama Lima
    Voy con el tornillo
    preguntando en la pared,
    un sonido sin color
un color tapado con un manto.
    Pero vacilo y momentáneamente
    ciego, apenas puedo sentirme.
    De pronto, recuerdo,
    con las uñas voy abriendo
    el tokonoma en la pared.
    Necesito un pequeño vacío,
    allí me voy reduciendo
    para reaparecer de nuevo,
palparme y poner la frente en su lugar.
Un pequeño vacío en la pared.

  • @alberalmeida1919
    @alberalmeida1919 Před 3 lety +1

Lezama lima!!!!!!!!!!!

    +Eisei-en Bonsai ,In your Tokonoma
I would have painted the backside of the front pelmet, to reflect the forward light from the light fitting, back and down. This also makes the light whiter, as you are now reflecting the brown colour from the unpainted surface.
I ONLY EVER use 5000K lights/bulbs, from 800Lm for small spaces to 1200-1400Lm for rooms 4mx4mx2.4m high, and then multiples of 1200-1400Lm depending on the space.
    3000-4000K Warm White (Orange/Pink/Salmon)
    4500-5500K Daylight (Neutral)
    6000-8000K Cool White (Blue)
For example, I recently renovated a 3 bedroom unit (Apartment). Paint, carpet, clean, etc. Soft fitting only.
Previous tenants left bulb burnt out and the ones they replaced where with 300-700Lm, 7-10w, 2800K. The apartment looked dark and dingy.... Look now.... Looks spectacular.... The purpose of great lighting....!!!! And cost just AU$80 and a couple of hours to find 15 light bulbs, a step ladder and replace.....

It looks great! It really does. But my OCD caught something minor. I hate being “that guy”, but........With the soft lighting inside, the top panel looks like it is painted a different color. ;-)
You have my respect for using the red oak! That stuff eats wood screws for breakfast!

  • @GoncaloMartins
    @GoncaloMartins Před 3 lety

As a plant grower I recoiled when you mentioned your chosen light kelvins, the most balanced kelvin for plants is between 5600K - 6400K which mimics the temperature of daylight. This is also the best kelvin range for photography as it mimics natural light the best. Think you will struggle having the area flooded with natural light and then having such a warm light from above when it comes to correcting the white balance of your images and videos.
