  • Hunting Colorado mule deer with Randy Newberg. Episode 4 from Season 1 of On Your Own Adventures is a public land mule deer hunt near Carbondale, Colorado. A ton of fun, even if the conditions were not all we had hoped for.

    I just got to say I can't get enough of your videos. They show the true face of public land hunting and all the research and hard work it goes into public land hunting. Specially in Colorado were land owners don't have to post signs that it's private. It's up to the hunter to know. Great job on the videos

    I live in Basalt, I can see the mtn you got your mule deer from my place. It's bit too crowded for me to hunt, great job! Lots of good elk and deer up there.

    Any updates on that 6.5 creed you snagged a while back? Been debating between that and 7mm-08 for a nice light rifle. Haven't decided if I think 6.5 creed will stick around on the shelves for the next 20 years

    Really enjoy watching your mule deer videos. They are not full of bs and I pick up little tips here and there. I'll be in Colorado hunting mule deer for the first time this season....3rd season unit 22. I can't wait! Is there a link that shows your recovery on Vito's buck?

    • @Fresh_Tracks
      @Fresh_Tracks  Před 8 lety

      OoooH! That will be a great hunt. If you put in some serious work, you will find some great bucks in that unit. I had hoped to get the archery tag in that unit, but I did not draw. Best of luck. Thanks for watching.

    "Don't pass on the first day what you'd shoot on the last day". I learned that one last fall. I drew a prairie bull elk tag after 11 years and at around 745am opening day had a 7x7 in my scope at 275 yards. He was a nice bull, but no monster, maybe 330. I decided to pass, thinking lets go look some more and come back later if need be. So we went to look for him again later in the day to see that he and his group had herded up with another 80 elk and you could not get within 600 yards of them. I got lucky and shot a 330 6x6 on my last day hunting, but I sure learned a lesson I tell you.

      Yup, I do. It is on the "gotta do that" list. Just a matter of time and schedules.

  • @coloradooutdooradventures7051

    DO you stay on trails must of the time when you deer and elk hunt or do you venture off to reach the more untouched ground. Also, can you shoot from trails?

    • @Fresh_Tracks
      @Fresh_Tracks  Před 6 lety +1

      You can shoot from trails. I use trails to get further back, but then I leave the trail to get to my glassing/hunting areas.

      My son is getting his Masters Degree in Chapel Hill. I was impressed with my first visit to NC. But, since sponsors want us to do western big game, odds are we will not be in NC. Sorry about that. Good luck this year.

  • @Thetinebroken

    The continued comments regarding Public Land crack me up.
    Public land is 90% of western hunting.
    you say one thing about how many millions of acres and conservation dollars and access etc and then contradict that over and over with remarks about public land.
    News flash Randy. You sound out of touch elitest. Public land IS HUNTING.
    Private land IS HARVESTING.

    • @Fresh_Tracks
      @Fresh_Tracks  Před 8 lety

      +Thetinebroken - ???? Not sure what you are referring to. All our hunts are on public land, sharing the hunt with other hunters.

    • @Thetinebroken
      @Thetinebroken Před 8 lety +2

      +Randy Newberg, Hunter I re-read my comment and I was a jerk. I referred to "public land hunting I guess" @6:00+.
      I am a public land hunter and take pride in it. I found humor in the comment about seeing other hunters when I know you are encouraging others to participate.
      I know you are first making a show and promoting conservation. second you are a real hunter and that comes clearly out not fake but real. i am a hunter so i know.
      Im in AZ and also hunt CO. Your videos are the best I have found on CZcams.
      please accept my apologies. From someone who has never hunted private land and thus would not be able to say anything bad about hunting public land or complain about running into other hunters.
      -me monster Higg waiting to find out what elk tag I drew....
      may the best of tines be with you.
      i look up to you greatly.
