I've been able to watch 90% of this movie, through CZcams snippets.
It's one of those movies where missing 10% probably made it better, it sure as shit couldn't make it any worse.
I honestly thought it was a good movie. They didn’t try to remake the original which I love. This movie slightly resembles the original but has its own flavor. Conner is hilarious!
It was far from a percent movie, but I could see them doing more. It was entertaining and knew what it wanted to be. If it didn't cost too much and Gyllenhaal is up for it, then run it back with another bar and you can move his story forward.

Yes , i liked it too , i must confess , i pre judged it just going by looking at a tiny snippet , but after seeing it , it was entertaining and enjoyable , it did not take itself too seriously i dont think .

I watched the whole thing, and really like it. They sort of tentatively left it hanging almost like "Reacher", with him wandering off, but not really suggesting they're going to make another. I Hope they do though. 👍

The original was more serious , darker , still lots of action , i liked both of them , this one does not take it self to seriously and has more humor in it , it is a different style movie , some people think it is a serious remake , clearly it is not .
Those slaps would have put a grumpy smile on Bud Spencer himself if he was still around.

As someone who has watched both.. you can't take either as a serious movie. I'd say the second one is better than the original when it comes to choreography and Dalton being the nice tough guy. The main villain was a bit better with more depth in the original.
Good analysis. I liked the original better and didn't give this version a look until my wife wanted to watch it.
I liked it more than I expected. The movie didn't do a lot of set up fights with the bar staff before the big/final fight.
The kid at the bookstore was good and showed the nice guy side of Dalton. I liked the kid, but she wasn't an important part of the story initially. Her and her dad's importance came back in the end though.
It might have been better received if it didn't come across as a remake. Jake Gyllenhaal has enough star power to pull some attention and Gina Torres is well known too. Connor McGregor is among the very best MMA fighters ever, and his character is over the top. Not a great actor but a very good performance as the cocky and powerful henchman/ professional hitter.
Moe is the best supporting character.

Patrick Swayze's Dalton was a professional who could run the bar business by himself. He spoke with a lot of authority. I haven't seen this whole movie but have seen enough clips to look like Gyllenhaal is more a hired thug than a real professional.
HE is a MMA fighter with a past. Someone who wasn't in the bar/ bouncer business all his life. This is a more personal Dalton trying to deal with his own issues while he gets higher to bounce at a bar. Yes i think the original story is better, but this one is more focused on the Dalton character and his demons.

yeah basically, i never watched the original, but from what i know, they wanted to make dalton a different character, and use only the original premise, and not just completely reboot it. In this one he is a bouncer hired to protect the patrons at the bar because of the extreme violence.
@@TheMan-ct8gh I would put it here is a fighter hired to be a bouncer. Half of the"plot" is why Dalton is willing to do this to himself. So in theory backstory. Best non forced story elements in the movie.

I think the most ridiculous thing is this takes place in Florida. This scene would have had at least four justifiable stand your ground killings lol.
Floridians may have a lot of guns but no one there knows how they work or what to do with them.
I saw the original and it was alright. I know that it’s considered a classic, but I really thought it was just “ok”. I’ve only seen clips of this movie and it seems like it’s on the same level. Love Jake Gyllenhaal and it looks like he brought a solid performance. I imagine it’s just a fun, stupid remake.

It was actually a pretty decent movie. Not great but watchable. Whathisface (the pro fighter) was a little over the top but I enjoyed it. EDIT: McGreggor lol.

My younger brother was a doorman, and did a fair bit of cage fighting around the time. It came in useful, but not as useful as the sap he kept in his pocket. It didn't matter how big the troublemaker was, one hit with the sap and down he went

I watched this last night, weird film. Forget everything you know about the original movie. It's loosely based on the original, very loosely. Conor McGregor was playing Conor McGregor. At times, it looked like it was filmed on a phone. It wasn't a bad film, just weird 🤷♂️
No, it was bad. It was horrible, like it was the 1st rehearsal. No one seemed to show any range except Connor who played Connor.

Why are remakes often darker and more depressing than the original?
It's the era, I think. Obviously there's exceptions, but overall the 80s were much more into fun and slightly campy action as opposed to brutal beatdowns.

Jeff Healy was in the original and I would think they'd at least have someone like Blackberry Smoke as the bar band. I may watch it, but I'll probably have to watch it alone since Roadhouse without Patrick Swayze and Sam Elliot would be blasphemy for my wife.

they are just trying to do a new thing, they didnt want to just rehash the original they wanted to use the premise and make it their own, but the talking fits the new Daltons personality.
More talking in the new one but the fight scenes were so much better choregraphed in the new one. In comparison, the original's fight scenes looked really amateur and you never got the impression Dalton knew how to fight.

As is typical in American action movies, the dialogues are totally pathetic - the kind of stuff real people would NEVER say under the same circumstances in real life. It makes the characters come across as super-ultra-mega-cool, though, so it sells tickets (to teenagers, in particular)...

This was probably one of the worst movies I've ever seen. The plot made.no sense the bar owner didn't even seem interested in anything, and these were some of the least menacing bad guys of all time. Even Conor Mac Gregor was like a bad cartoon. The whole thing top to bottom was an F
