Its insane how refreshing it feels to have a star wars show that is made by competent people and doesnt rely on member berries
Kathleen Kennedy also produced this. Yes the same Kath y'all hated for being producer in the sequel movies as well as The Mandalorian and Obi-Wan.
@@vidmasterK1 yeah those were shit and this wasn’t
Yeah, member berries! You remember?
Woke berries more like.
@@teresazbikowska7094 I have no idea what you're talking about and clearly neither do you.
This show is the kind of thing I've always wanted from Star Wars. Was not expecting it at all from some random show about Andor, but so glad it's getting the recognition it deserves.
Yes agreed and I wasn't looking forward to this show at all.
I was the same when this show was first announced. I mean, an Cassian Andor spin-off? Sure I might check it out EVENTUALLY. But then sometime around 2020 I actually looked into _who_ was working on the show and it immediately became my most anticipated Disney+ project. I mean, a Star Wars political spy-thriller from two Academy Award-winning writer/directors and a bunch of HBO/BBC talent? Yes, please.
I think if Andor has taught us anything is that it's often not the stuff you wanted, like an Obi-Wan or Boba Fett show, that really leaves its creative mark. It's the stuff you never KNEW you wanted.
The exact same thing here.
A surprise to be sure,
And a welcome one
@@Xelpherpolis too little too late I don’t care for Star Wars anymore. Cause Disney ruined the brand
😢 I’m tryna make it out the hood so on my CZcams channel i do food reviews while I’m super high slime
Me finishing Andor: “Finally, some good f%#*ing food.”
Finally! Got some steak and Lobster!
Meats back on the menu boisss!!!
Fokin ell. Those ribs. So tendah
Bobf and Kenobi are like the Narkina 5 prison slime and the Mandalorian is like the tasty slime that you get when your table wins, but Andor is the food Mon Mothma and her family are eating!
But seriously though, memes praising the show aside, this series did these things to perfection:
- Side characters are used intelligently, and aren’t completely incompetent. We feel that they have agency without stealing the show.
- There are visual motifs that relate to Rogue One and they don’t come off as fan service.
- Amazing soundtrack, and amazing cinematography. The digital composite work was invisible and high quality.
- Production Design, holy moly. This world actually felt real! Actual sets! Great costumes, great work!
- The writing is exceptional, if there was ever a book made with this level of writing I’d happily buy it.
I’m happy that we are only getting one more season. Short and sweet is better than long and drawn out.
I love how Maarva was able to take part in the rebellion when her brick was used to smash that Imperial's face. She also opened up the tunnels under the hotel before she died, which allowed Andor to move through the town and save Bix.
I also love Maarva's speech. It's like the Star Wars version of G'Kar's speech in Babylon 5: "No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against that power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand."
And Damar's speeches in DS9: "Citizens of Cardassia, hear me! The Dominion told you that the Rebellion has been crushed. What you have seen here today proves that that is yet another lie. Our fight for freedom continues, but it will take place here, in the streets. I call on Cardassians everywhere to rise up. Rise up and join me. I need you to be my army. If we stand together, nothing can oppose us. Freedom is ours for the taking! "
DS9 and Babylon 5 is great stuff. I will add some quotes from another great space epic called Legend of Galactic Heroes: Quotes from Yang Wenli:
“An army is a tool for violence, and there are two kinds of violence…Violence to control and oppress, and violence as a means of liberation. You know, what we call a national army, is fundamentally the former example. It’s a pity, but history doesn’t lie. When those in power confront popular opposition, there aren’t many examples of the army siding with the people. Far from it, in the past, in country after country, the army itself evolved into a power structure, and came to control the people with violence.”
"A nation doesn’t create individuals by cellular division. Instead, it is individuals with autonomous intent who gather to establish a nation. In a democratic society, it is axiomatic as to which one is the master and which the servant."
"Even if you look at a mountain, if you only look at it from one direction, you can’t grasp the whole…Embodiments of evil don’t exist other than in television dramas…Maybe history will classify us not as good but as the evil camp…people aren’t strong enough to endure the recognition that they’re evil. Therefore, believing in their own righteousness, they fight to force their views on other people."
"Constitutional government against totalitarianism, progressive democracy against intolerant despotism. Well, advocating such things, because they came to be put into practice as well, and if the Rudolf-like things are denied and buried by Prince Lohengramm, there’ll be no special reason why the Alliance should continue. Look, Julian. Just as people sometimes die, nations aren’t eternally indestructible things, either. The entities called nations are no more than simple tools. If you remember just that fact, maybe you can maintain your perspective."
sure now there are more body's for the wall 😁
Love the G'Kar reference.
Based on the episode ending with the real beginning of the Rebellion, another quote from Kosh: "The avalanche has already started. It is too late for the pebbles to vote."
The reason I love Andor so much is that its like the Bill Bur scene when he confronts the Imperial officer in Mandalorian but its that kind of serious tension the entire show.
interesting observation!
@Giltspark Last I checked he died in a refinery explosion on Morak
Very true. Good catch. That was probably my favorite episode of S2.
The ISB is now one of my favorite parts of the Empire because of all the acting talent present there
Mendo!! 💯

The Mandalorian is great fun, but Andor doesn't rely on aesthetic nostalgia and fan service to help it along. I could not have cared less for Cassian Andor starting this but he is up there with the best of them now - and we are only half way through!! Fantastic.
Perfectly said
Exactly
I agree. The Madalorian is like a thin comic book hero compared to the stories we're getting with the characters in Andor. IMO I think they should have left Djinn and moved onto Bo Katan as The Mandalorian. Make it more of an anthology with different Mandalorians explore how each of their cultures differ and how they;re going to come together to reclaim Mandalore
The Mandalorian is your typical Disney offering - lots of easily quotable one liners, cute characters, jokes, memberries but little real substance. Andor is much more akin to HBO - long setup, deep nuanced character exploration and epic long speeches that sends shivers down your spin.
In many ways it's harder to pull off an HBO type show in the scifan genre than it is in the contemporary setting, it's harder to get the audience to look pass the laser guns, the weird aliens and the space magic to identify the theme and characters that resonate with the modern audience, so massive kodus to the Andor writers to pulling it off.
This makes me sad about how BoBF and OB1 dropped the ball, there were a lot of potential for great storytelling - criminal underworld, revenge, betrayal, guilt, persecution etc that demanded the HBO treatment rather than the Disney treatment. But I'm glad that at least we got this one.
So a star wars show feeling like star wars is just nostalgia?
Andor: The show nobody asked for but so many instead found it to be the best written, acted, directed piece of Star Wars since Empire Strikes Back, hell perhaps even better than that. Such a pleasure after some of the... disappointments we've had lately. And by the gods that speech Luthen gave regarding what he sacrifices.
Finally the Empire is treated like a competent, scary, brutal organisation where stormtroopers can actually aim, their methods of detention and torture are horrifying and the ISB is terrifying. Its so wonderful to see the Empire treated as something more than cartoonishly evil. Its a pretty rare thing in Star Wars, but its one of the reasons I love the game TIE Fighter so much (and why I chose to remake it).
Couldn't agree more. Really shows up certain other CZcamsrs and their attitudes too.
Exactly
I hate to say this but The Empire Strikes Back looks immature compared to this.
@@Lexyboogie Maybe because Empire was made 42 years ago? And there wasn't this huge established universe we have now. Also Lucas did say they were films for the younger ones, which magically captured the attention of the older people too.
i would even say that is not even just in the star wars universe, but a great show overall. The theme helped us as a fan, but even for those that dont know star wars can enjoy this kind of show for the emotional impact and dramatic acting, tight plots and good action.
For me the best scene of the episode was Cassian and Brasso meeting in the tunnel. Andor is filled with regret for not being there for Maarva. He's upset that the last conversation he had with his mother was an argument. It was so real. So human. It hit me so hard, starting with that long, comforting hug. Both of these men are grieving and it's wonderful that the show allows them to do that and The hammer guy had one job, did it well and got to Spartan kick a stormtrooper off. What a beast.
I like how the episode proves Nemik was right. The Empire's need for control was so strong they planned exactly how and when the funeral was going to proceed to trap Andor and yet it all went to shit cos the people always have a say one way or another.
Also The music is sooooo good. Honestly doesn't get enough mention.
Yes, the soundtrack in the show is awesome!
I want to hear all of Nemik's manifesto
I believe the bomber is the son of the shop owner with the radio Bix used to contact Luthen. The shop owner was tortured to death by the Empire to find Bix.
I think he was still alive from the torture, but if I remember correctly, the Imperial Prefect said that he wanted to hang him.
Correct. He died. It’s a way of showing that killing loved ones can radicalize their family.
He actually wasn't tortured to death. The as*hole empire captain wanted to hang him and Deedra let him. He probably hung in the square the same way Cassians dad did.
The guy who ordered the troopers to oper fire on the crowd, was the guy who after torturing that father had him hung.
@@TheBenjaman was there an episode of that ?
This show is living proof how complex and deep the Star Wars universe can be when they aren’t dumbing it down into nostalgia bait or oversimplifying things because they think the audience can’t keep up if it isn’t a straight good-evil fight. Everything is done so well that it’s hard to believe there from the same studio as BOBF.
Tony Gillroy said in an interview that season 2 will once again have three episode arcs, however there will be a one year (ish) time jump between each arc. Season 2 will cover the next four years, leading up to Rouge One.
The end scene of the episode is one of the best in the show (the show has a lot of good scenes though). He’s lost everything he’s cared about, and with one line you know exactly where his mind is: he’s at the point where he has nothing to lose. The dynamic nature of his character was so believable in this show.
Id argue that what changed wasnt that he doesn’t have anything to lose, but he now has something to live for. The rebellion.
@@brandondiaz1118 And all that was said in just “kill me or take me in” so gud
It’s at this moment where Andor knew he’d go all out to the death, which would lead to Rogue One
This show is without a doubt very well written and directed . The actors did a great job too.
Woah woah woah, this was Kathleen Kennedy’s baby. I know it’s popular to hate on her, but this was the only Star Wars show where she served as an actual producer and had say over. The others she was just an executive producer. She signed on her friend Tony Gilroy, and gave him what he wanted.
She was also the one who spearheaded the Rogue one reshoots and said all the characters were free to be killed off, because it served the story.
So give credit where it’s due. We owe Kathleen Kennedy for Andor Existing
A shame no one will notice this.
What i loved about this episode was they didn't go for the cheap writing option of Cyril turning up and ruining some ISB cunning plan by effectively being a clownish bad-guy, they maintained the believable fact that he was just obsessively trying to get some closure over Cassian and when he saw his crush in trouble he just manned up and did what he needed to do, but didn't even make a big deal about it. It's so nice to see "bad guys" actually portrayed well, the entire Imperial faction really feels like the oppressive, mechanical and viciously vindictive faction it was always supposed to me, but with enough understandable humanity to see where they all went "wrong" and allowed their fear and anger to justify all the horrible stuff they've been doing.
This show has the best writing and best acting in any Star Wars. So many great lines from this show. My favourites being the monologue from Luthen about sacrifice, and this one:
“Tell him I love him more than anything he can ever do wrong.”
I ugly cried at that 😭😭😭❤
10/10 show.
I want more.
I need more.
THIS is my Star Wars.
and yet there's plenty of idiots that say this isnt Star Wars
@@purefoldnz3070 And plenty of other even bigger idiots who kisses Disney's back sides in hope that they will pull off something remotely decent for Star wars!.
@@purefoldnz3070 Definitely feels extremely different from every other Star Wars project, so I definitely empathize with that. That being said, I'd rather have this feeling less like the original films than Boba and Kenobi being wack but while maybe feeling more like Star Wars. What's strange about this is the lack of the force being a central theme like how all the other shows and Rogue One especially was like for recent movies.
probably not going to get more based on how low the ratings were. Could be the best show of all time, if no one is watching it wont get picked up.
@@Scorpion122178 2nd season has already started filming.
This one had me teared up. This might be the best star wars movie/series since the original trilogy
Not even joking I believe it surpasses the original trilogy.
@@jfandersson3223 nah if og trilogy was made same time it would be better
The music! See how everyone on Ferrix knew it by heart. It was used to save Bix' soul and life, and to have the "ghost" of Maarva speak to start the Rebellion in a real world, was brilliant. The kid that Brasso saved (would have been killed by Empire for the IED), then saw Cassian rescue Bix, despite everyone looking for him, and gave him and the rest of the group at Ferrix, hope.
Luthen’s scene of self reflection was so interesting. I think he knew he helped inspired the rebellion that took place on Ferrix because he said he knew the heist on Aldhani would bring about further oppression by the Empire which would breed rebellion. And remember Aldhani was the moment that inspired Maarva to take up arms against the Empire. I think Luthen in this moment of self reflection really realized the blood he had on his hands. Similar to Palpatine, he’s always been a character who operates from the shadows who rarely gets his hands directly dirty. He wants revenge for some wrong the Empire caused him, and he’s willing to sacrifice everything for it. In this moment though, by experiencing firsthand all the death his actions caused, he realized there are ways in which he’s no different than the Empire. Through the ends justify the means moral framework he’s adopted for the cause, he sees that in some ways he simply can’t distinguish himself from the evil of the Empire. I think he genuinely questioned the cause for a second during this moment. However, he is by this point to far gone and committed to the cause that there’s no going back for him.
10/10
Best Star Wars content as of yet (dare I say ever?). The Empire is competent and scary. The characters are nuanced and believable. The actors deliver on every level.
The story is intriguing and well written.
The Mandalorian has moments when it hits this level of brilliance but is no where near as consistent or coherent.
I hope this team gets to work on more projects in the future.
In my opinion, the best media under the Star Wars franchise. Absolutely adored it; the monologues were phenomenal and added so many amazing soundbites to the universe.
Singled out appreciation for Luthen, Mon and Marva - holy shit.
Doesn’t even follow the themes of Star Wars. I completely disagree but respect your opinion never the less. I can see why one would like it.
@@CriticalTairique I think that's why I've enjoyed it more, but same to you, buddy! I hope you enjoyed it / some of it, at any rate!
@@combatwombat2134 I did enjoy it for what it was bro. Wish I liked it as much as you did! Glad you liked it.
& that’s how two different Star Star fans should discuss Star Wars. Calm & respectful 🤣🤷🏽♂️
@@CriticalTairique were it so easy for everyone. 😂
@@CriticalTairique It totally follows the theme of star war. What it diverge from is a lot of aesthetic choices. Rebellion, fight for freedom, hero's journey, oppresion, letting go of selfish desire like Andor, Kino (George Lucas talk alot about this while making the other sw movies). Star war was never just hokey religion and ancient weapons.
Could you imagine getting introduced to Star Wars with Andor, and then watch the Book of Boba Fett, Rise of Skywalker, and the Phantom Menace?
100% agree with everything said here, Andor gives hope to the future of Star Wars. No cameos, no fan service, just brilliant writing and acting.
OMG Alex really enjoyed something!. This is the best SW's writting since the originals. You actually fear the Empire in this series, feels like Nazi's control. You always hate the Empire, cause there the bad guys, but know you see it, Stormtroopers are scary now, firing at will hitting there targets of death. It's the first "real "Rebellion against the Empire" right in front of Luthen of all ppl, who's trying tio start one, but actually saw one is gold. The music was awesome from the funeral. (John Campea Show) talked about how i missed but makes sense now. The "ANDOR" Tittle for 12 weeks has a dif hint of a hmm, or music. buT aLl 12 episodes together that timbit of notes was the funeral song. WoW! Now that's good story telling, to even think about that
When Cinta killed the imperial spy, I took it as her eliminating the only imperial on ferric who'd gotten a good look at her. She seemed to be tailing him through the city and she knew her assignment would be done that day one way or another
Syril in episode 3 is meant to parallel what Meero experiences in this episode and I love it. You can see the panic and shock on her face as everything falls apart around her just like he did, but when he rescues her he is totally focused and it snaps her out of it. She probably has a new found respect for him and doesn't think he's a total screw up. I expect these events were meant as a learning experience to show them that the rebels won't play by the rules and no matter how much planning you do and precautions you take, none of it will matter when everything goes to shit.
I also like how it proves Andor and Nemik right, in that the Empire's arrogance is exactly what provides them the openings to strike. They planned out everything in the day and thought they already won, but they forgot the saying "No plan survives contact with the enemy". Both Syril and Dedra learned this the hard way, and I feel that this will make them much more competent and dangerous enemies going forward.
Apart from everything that has been said I also need to commend the people behind costume design. Especially the high class Coruscant costumes are so interesting and well thought out. But also the working class on Ferrix. Together with an amazing set design they combine into a great immersive experience. This show is amazing on every level.
This was absolutely the best show they've made so far, I've never been so captivated by a show so much and eager to watch what comes next. Even when the cut to the different story lines throughout the series it never lost my interest. Each character felt so important and I hope they learn from this for future series, I never thought in my life my favorite star wars media would come from Rouge One and Andor!
If you want to see another sci-fi show with great writing, i highly recommend The Expanse. It's more hard sci-fi and political thriller, but great adventure nonetheless.
The show kinda meh in later seasons due to production issues, if you get that far and want more, read books the show is based on, it's good stuff.
This episode was so epic!!! Absolutely astounding show!!!😍
What a joy and a breath of fresh air this series has been. Hats off to everyone involved especially the writers and tony gilroy. Andor was spectacular
This show was so refreshing. Remember when it was announced I asked “why?”
But I’m glad they made it, good stuff
Someone's probably already said this, but this last episode is very 1970s British miners strike, when Thatcher closed the northern coal pits. Each mine usually had its own brass band, and processions often culminated into riots against the police. It was a very dark period of British history, which northern towns are still reeling from socially and economically.
Dedra reminds me of Margaret Thatcher rising through the ranks of the Conservative Party.
She's horrific.
Just IMAGINE how fucking tiiiiiiiiiight it would have been if Tony Gilroy had written the prequels. Like Lucas was in his role that he was in for Empire and Jedi as producer, creator, and co-writer, but left the actual storytelling to a better writer and director. Andor is showing that a Tony Gilroy type could have made the Fall of the Republic and Jedi be so much more well nuanced and just straight up well told with characters that feel and act *human*
exactly. Lucas needed to hire a co-writer to do 1-3 and even a director for one of them. I know that he "tried" but because he wasnt in the director guild they couldnt join or some bullshit but idc lucas shouldnt have put it all on his shoulders. Empire was the only perfect SW because it was a group effort.
B2's little whistle that got the band marching again...loved it
Andor is a breath a fresh air. Finally a good story, matched with great actors delivering wonderfully believable dialogue with the best world building since Mando. And the suspense of every episode..... excellent.
I didnt expect much from this show but now I'm all in. This was fantastic, Cassian Andor is such a strong character , can't wait to see what comes next.
its funny how not much happened in this show(compared to all starwars) and I loved every second of it.
Alex is my favorite to listen to when watching this stuff he should lead more on the Star Wars stuff
I’ve grown to appreciate Alex’s opinion on the show a welcome addition to the channel
I know, I want more in-depth reviews from him
Everyone says that bruddah, it's getting annoying already. Rings of Power viewes say Alex should be the lead, She Hulk viewers say Alex should be the lead and now Andor, like wtf?
Here's the thing, Alex doesn't like to be the front man. He doesn't like to talk alot that's why he prefers Joe doing all the talking and then he just input his opinions here and there. Its a nice balance of information and it shows their good friendship because Joe and Alex do share alot of similar likeness and hate for something. Joe is a quick paste aggressive reviewer while Alex is a short Impact but brutal reviewer. Oh and then we have OJ who's there for the memes lol.
@@Angel_Love6680 It is getting annoying. I don't get this hate for Joe and OJ all of a sudden. All 3 are a great trio and they are honest with their opinions while respecting others which I can't say about a lot of other reviewers anymore. 1. Who the fuck are you to speak for Alex?
2. I’m pretty sure you just based your entire statement off of information he’s given while he’s sitting next to Joe, his employer!
3. This wasn’t a conversation about whether or not Alex even wants to talk more, it’s about how the audience wants/needs to hear more from Alex

I like the idea of this series. We need a series about Vader’s accountant now😯
You don’t know the power of the IRS. We must pay our master !
Collecting credits from an entire galaxy is no joke. Those missing blast from stormtroopers aint cheap
@@dtpatriots848 I'm not gonna lie, Imperial IRS show would kinda go hard. The Outer Rim is gonna get shredded with how much crime is interwoven in the part of the galaxy. But seeing rich politicians and corporations that keep screwing with the Empire get what they deserve would be nice to see as well. Maybe actually show the Empire in a good light during its early years before it fully transformed into an evil galactic superpower. The old EU portrayed this well in the comics and smaller story arcs. After all the serious external enemies like pirate guilds, defiant interstellar empires, "dangerous" alien civilizations and Separatist holdout states were neutralized, The Empire turned in on itself. It began persecuting, exploiting, and oppressing the very people it was formed from to protect, aid, and unify.
My prediction for season 2 is that Andor is going to be juggling trying to find his sister, while also being faithful to the rebel cause. Wild guess, but maybe he finds her and she's an imperial? I def think sister will be a main plot point, as they've hinted it in the beginning and throughout S1.
I just finished the show in one sitting because I couldn't stop. 10/10 why did i put this show off.
B3EMO is the best droid/secondary cute character Star Wars ever had. I love that little guy.
Legit didn't think SW had in it such a quality product. After delivering a great war movie these madmen gifted us a terrific spy thriller with the best acting the property has ever had. The whole team behind this should feel really proud.
Season 2 was confirmed even since before Season 1 launched. That's how good it is :D
Well written, well acted, well directed, well produced.
When something is well done we love it and don't even care about possible "plot holes" and whatever. This is what we've wanted for decades.
I loved the little droid in Andor it had alot of emotion and felt like it was grieving for its dead owner. Good stuff, well done.
The procession, amazing sad funeral music, the speech, escalation into violence...I can't remember when was the last time I had real goosebumps during a series. Amazing, just amazing
I knew it was going to be good. But I didn't expect it to be this good.
This show was so immersive. Acting, sound, visuals and themes were so on point. It actually was so good that it makes me more angry about Boba Fett, that show should have been dark and gritty like this too and we can't unsee it. Andor is a great character and I can't wait for season 2 when he goes full rebel
I cared that much that every side character who died I was like NOOOOOO, I usually am horrible at remembering characters who haven't been in screen much but I genuinely cared. I didn't expect this from Andor
My feelings exactly. It's odd that I don't remember their names very well yet they still made a strong impression on me
I've felt like the ratings and general reaction from the guys has been underselling this show, but I'm really glad to see Joe give the whole season a 10/10. There's really no noteworthy flaws with Andor. Maybe some plot lines were underdeveloped, but they weren't bad plot lines. This show is basically perfect, to me.
I think the gambling thing was really her to help explain why money is not accounted for. She said it out loud in the car for the driver to hear. I don't know that her husband was in on it. The driver took that info to the powers that be. Her plan worked.
Her husband isn't in on it.
Once Tony and Dan Gilroy finish Andor, I really hope they get to make an adaptation of Knights of the Old Republic. It's still cited as one of the best video games of all time, as well as one of the best Star Wars stories of all time, and seeing the story of Revan in live action would be extremely exciting to see.
This show tied up most of the loose ends. Loved that the manifesto fitted into the plot of the finale as Cassian is listening to it the night before the funeral. Love that Bix Brasso and B2 escape in a believable manner with Pax's son ( who made the bomb) and the daughter of Ferrix. Cassin telling Luthen to take him in as the last scene was chefs kiss. I would have liked to have seen more Mon Mothma in the Senate, but seriously, she gets more intel at her dinner parties than she could get in the Senate. She really only agreed to a meeting between her daughter and Davo's son, a betrothal would be next, but it would be a couple of years before there was an actual marriage. Mon may just be stalling and may have a plan to get her daughter out of it eventually if the girl wants that.
Also I love that Vel and Cinta were badass characters with well written parts who happened to be a lesbian interracial couple. Tony Gilroy was creating characters, not checking boxes.
The speech by Marva and the last scene with Cassian and Luthen was everything. It feels amazing to watch a Star Wars creation that wasn't watered down. Also the scene by Syril and Dedra, can't wait for the next season.
Now all we need is mando to be as well written as andor
While I did enjoy Mando, I believe it's only true achievement is making star wars good again. Andor does more than that.
The little moments in the series help make the world feel real. Case in point; just seeing the funeral band get ready and practice before the procession. That’s something that’s real and it’s a little detail that fleshes out the realism in a totally fictional story.
Yeah they grounded it really well. Little details build up.
Arguably this could also be the best show of the year.
Watch this show and then watch rogue one all the way through. This show accomplishes a few important feats. It's good in its own right. It's different, unique, dystopian and mature. Secondly, it's an emotionally compelling story about rebellion that gets you as a viewer invested in the politics of the universe it exists within. Lastly, it makes other stories its connected to feel more impactful. I already really love rogue one, but this show is going to turn that film into a masterpiece. This show and that movie paints a very different and moving picture of the rebellion. It wasn't a forgone conclusion that the good guys win in these stories. Quite the opposite, these characters sacrifice everything for a punchers chance.
Andor was essentially a WWII spy thriller with a Star Wars skin. And all the better for it.
The good thing is you can use any obsessive violent military system as a mirror. British colonization. French occupation in the colonies. German Nazis, British government on coal strikes, US occupation of Iraq. or Northern Ireland
The music in the episode is the theme for the show. They add in instruments at the start of each episode
Was watching the episode with headphones on while the wife was sleeping and had to work really hard not to shout/cheer at the words 'These bastards...' So good!
I'm so sad that Disney will probably never allow a physical media release of this show.
Just write it on some dvds or bluray disks lol
I want it so bad so I can add to my collection before they ban anything that might suggest to people the idea of a rebellion. This is collection worthy media.
I give it an 11/10. It is all I have dreamt it could be and more.
My only questioning is about the search of his sister: they have spent a lot of energy and screentime on the first episodes about it but then got completely neglected.
It might not be an interesting storyline but it seems that the whole show has been so well written that it cannot not be part of season 2. Otherwise, they have lost precious resources on that part.
Also wished they would stick to the original 5 season storyline. Obviously this show being what it is won't pull as much money than others but goddamn it is so good. It would be bad to rush 4 years into 12 episodes.
My guess is that it was always intended to be brought up at the start and then dropped as something to return to in the second season. There was stuff going on with that planet, and with the ship crash, that I just don't think would have made sense to come back to in the relatively tight timeframe of season 1. Season 2 covers the remaining four years leading up to Rogue One. So to me it always made sense as something we'd come back to with some higher stakes related to the Rebellion.
I think its kinda neat to see a sort of love thing within the imperials. You don’t get to really see that in these things which I find interesting. I was honestly ready to just see Syril make a turn to the Rebellion or become conflicted once he witnesses the slaughter of the towns people. I like that they actually decided to keep his loyalty to the empire and his negative views of the rebellion remain the same.
Cassian stands for everyone who would join the rebellion. He is proof of "axis'" success. He was a normal guy who was just getting by under the Empire.
He skirted the rules where he could and was content to just get by.
But he got to a point where what he had to fight for was greater than his fear of the empires retaliation.
Now he's all in after seeing what they've done to him, his loved ones, and his home.
He is every citizen that chooses to rebel against the Empire.
"Kill me or take me in."
This episode reminds me of when Cersei blew up the grand hall in GOT. Just the way the music built up as the situation escalated and you saw both sides getting to where they needed to be when things kicked off. There’s parallels there.
Maarvas speech tho! Wow. That will go down as one of the most iconic moments in Star Wars
Thanks for talking about this show, guys. I had such a great time with Andor and it's great hearing that you all did too.
I figured it out. This show is NEW Star Wars. What I mean this is what we were expecting as fans. Ties to the old, but new stories. It's not a retread, it's actual universe building. We get a LOT of the Empire's inner workings. I like it's not just "Crazy space army controlled by two wizards". I love grounded stuff like this. The good guys are also...not good. They are sympathetic, and real. They're generally good people, but they'll do some bad things. That sadly, is reality.
I'm thinking lego needs to make Luthen's ship.
I just gotta say AJ getting names wrong is part of his charm.
Yeah, but i wouldn´t named Syril "captain crunch". I would name him "Lazy town guy" or "Detroit become human"
This show is amazing, fans always say they want something new and amazing..... but when a show like this comes out, they dont watch because it doesnt have some form of Yoda, Boba, Luke, Vader... etc
Then they wonder why studios keep going to the nostalgia well and ruining our childhoods.
The sacrifice Mon Mothma made is having to focus on things outside her family, to the point where her husband is the dominant influence in her daughter's life. He likes the old ways, whereas Mon Mothma knows the pitfalls of it. Due to her focus on getting the rebellion started she cannot provide the counter argument to the daughter being OK with an arranged marriage. The sacrifice was never about her forcing something unfortunate on her child, it was about being unable to prevent her child from wanting it.
Mon Mothma's husband isn't into the tradition either, but he placates his daughter... maybe to spite his wife. (I think Mon Mothma communicated this to her cousin in a scene.)
Is it really arranged if the daughter is okey with it?
Its like indians living in the US that willingly choose their tradition.
For the past two months, every Wednesday has felt like Christmas morning. Absolutely floored by incredible this show was.
Yes and yes😁
I believe we might be seeing K-2SO again in Season 2 of Andor. We've already seen the same Imperial Droid briefly before Cassian got taken to custody, but obviously the real K-2 needs to show up eventually since he was reprogrammed and started serving Cassian + the Rebellion at some point before Rogue One happened.
Director Krennic could also appear in Season 2 of Andor, maybe towards the end of the series since we still have Karn and Meero to work with.
And lastly, I'm pretty sure not only will Saw Gerra appear in Andor again, but he could have a slightly bigger role since Andor would be the last thing for the character to have some more impact before his final appearance in Rogue One.
I'm not too worried about Iger coming in. Under his tenure Disney grew into what we know it as today. AND he admitted that he never should've rushed the sequels to meet those fiscal year deadlines, which are for those who don't know, divided into quarterly months, so months of three. So Q4 is towards the end of the year, which is when all the SW movies were out for those big numbers. But I think what Iger is really gonna focus up on, is fixing the Disney Park situation that Chapek really fcked up, and fixing the quantity over quality thing that Chapek ALSO shoved out due to the pandemic.
All this, WHILE looking for someone to take over, as he's only going to be CEO for 2 years. Disney really needs someone at the helm who understands what the company IS.
And for the CEO to be saying things like "adults don't watch animated movies" when just the previous CEO completely saved Walt Disney Animation Studios from going under....NOT a good look. No wonder he was kicked out by the board.
Btw, Tony Gilroy said the reason we don't see Keegry's failed attack is that he doesn't like scenes with no stakes because the audience never met Kreegyr.
Man, the music from this series and from this episode is so beautiful. Just love it
Mothma still loves her daughter and knows that she is going into a marriage that she can't escape from even if she ends up disliking her partner. So she is still sacrificing her own values and beliefs for her daughter who is still young and naïve.
Syril has an obsession with power and romanticizes it. His mother is a micromanager and tries to control every part of his life while not seeing eye to eye with him whereas Dedra is powerful too but reflects his ambitions and goals- although I am still not 100% sure on whether Syril is actually a good guy and whether he will realize that Dedra is completely ruthless.
After watching so many Disney+ shows, it’s so good to have a finale that actually feels like a finale.
My favorite Disney Star Wars live action show, and Luthen is my new favorite character. The music can not be understated very powerful stuff
Luthen is a new favorite of mine. Just wondering why do you like him so much?
@@infinitedonuts I like him because of his grey morality, he’s “the end justifies the means” type of guy. But every decision he makes weighs heavy on his mind.
Let me tell you when I realized he was building THE DEATH STAR aka the THING THAT WOULD KILL THEM ALL IN ROGUE ONE my jaw. DROPPED. This. THIS is the Disney Star Wars that we should've been getting from the jump.
Who was?
@@adeadpoet4221 andor
@@adeadpoet4221 he's referring to the prisoners and the fact that the empire was clamping down on petty crime and issuing absurdly long sentences solely to obtain slave labor for the prison production facilities being used to make Death Star parts.
That's the one part of the show that I kind of didn't care for. Once they started questioning what they were building, I thought it was kind of obvious that it had to be connected to the Death Star. So while that post credit was decent, I felt like they telegraphed it too much to be as effective as it could have been.
@@plo617 well, it also answered the long time question from Clerks concerning the second death star. It appears that droids were building the death stars and the parts were made by prisoners on planets, so there should be no guilt for killing millions of contractors when the second one is blown up.
EVERYTHING they set up had a pay-off. ALL OF IT!!! Phenomenal series all around, looking forward to more of Andor and hopefully more of this high-quality stuff in Star Wars as a whole.
You mean there was no stories for another time?
Except for the search for this sister. But yeah, he was rather busy 🙂
Was fully expecting a 10 it deserves it imo thank you
Yeah it does.
It would be a cool idea in my opinion if they did do bothans - establish them to be a intelligent and badass group who finds the plans of the 2nd death star or at least maybe like plans for it, like they find it be called something like how the first death star was called "stardust" in rogue one. Find out how the empire always wanted 2 since the 2nd one was much much bigger! it would sort of resolve a big like question to why the empire just wanted to build a second one after the first one blew up. Having the emperor planning to always have 2 may make us see the empire as a potentially bigger threat to what we saw in the OT. Although, it would create questions to why we never heard them having these plans ever in the OT then. But idk cool idea i think.
I've rewatched the finale and one way out episode like three times each mostly for the speeches chef's kiss
I would love the team that put this together to do more. However, I don't want them to be in so high demand that their quality slips. I am fully okay waiting 2+ years for new series if it is at this same level if not higher. I feel that too often, Disney wants new IP's or remakes to come out as fast as possible to keep people interested and more importantly invested in Disney+. That they all the quality of the work to slip.
Joe still hasn't realized that the imperial officer is the voice of Yennifer in Witcher 3.
WHUT
The bomb symbolizes the whole conflict well, even starting a chain reaction. Good writing - Would of loved 5 seasons of Star Wars Che Guevara
So nice to see a channel appreciate this show!
This is by far the best acting in any Starwars. With the exception of Rogue one, It’s better than any of the other Disney Starwars. I hope there’s a second season.
The ISB agent whi got stabbed was Dedra's assistant I believe, so with him gone, Syril could become her assistant now.
There were originally going to be five seasons, one for every year leading up until rogue one. So they definitely wrote the first season to plan for that. However since we’re only getting one more season it’ll be interesting to see how the compress it all down to fit
My guess is that each new arc will be divided similarly to this season but they jump a year every time they move onto the next one.
I think andor was probably the most important star wars media, probably ever. The speeches, the sacrifices characters make, it all actually means something. It's not like Last Jedi or the Prequels where they throw around "this good thing, this bad thing". Nemek's speech, Marva's speech, Luthan's speech, Kino's speech - they're all about getting up and fighting a tyranny that grows while you sleep. Hasn't been since Mr Robot when I heard Nemek's speech followed by Marva's that I wish I was there with the people of Ferrix in that riot. That's how you know you've written something powerful
but the ot was like "this is good and bad" so you admitting to just not liking star wars in general
@@Apac12 you should probably work on that reading comprehension my guy
@@ASummersetproduction you wrote an essay worshipping this show while trying to push down the prequels and sequels for doing the same thing the OT does. Star wars is good vs evil. If you don't like that then idk what to tell you man
@@Apac12 a paragraph is an essay for you? Sheesh, well if you read up and saw the episode, obviously Andor is a struggle of dark vs light (Marva even says it). Talking about the delivery of message. About how Andor implores you to get up and be the change you want to be whereas the other two just make really surface level observations but doesn't go any further into realistic change or hope. OT's struggle was a blast that created the foundation of star wars so in that way it's unique even if the story and execution isn't unique
I'd put off watching Andor and finally got around to it and I have to say it was worth watching every minute of it. Regardless of how anyone feels about Rogue One this is such a good series that it is worth a watch. And that monologue from Maarva in the funeral scene is such a tense moment at the perfect moment in the episode to really pull people in.
