In the concluding ashtapadi from Jayadeva's 14th Century Geeta Govinda, Radha expresses herself to her Lord Krishna in a tone of affectionate authority. Yadava hero, your hand is cooler than sandal balm on my breast. Paint a leaf design with deer musk here on Love's ritual vessel. My dark eyes put to shame even a cluster of bees; smudged by your kisses, brighten them again with kajal. My hair flies like Cupid's banner, make it beautiful as the peacock's crest. Fix flowers in my hair and put right my apparel and bejeweled girdle loosened by love play, Radha tells the joyful Yadu hero. Misra Khafi Raga.
This performance was broadcast on national television under the direction of the legendary dance/music producer Kamalini Dutt.
I'm happy I found this in my stacks of DVDs/VCDs. It hasn't been distributed earlier. Please share with any friends who need to see great art

Guru shri Kelucharan Mohapatra was the Savior of Odissi Dance when it was getting extinct. He has the right to have Bharat Ratna. Just see his expressions. No one can match him. I bow to him as a Male beginner odissi dancer. 🙏🙏🙏🙏

I don't really have much wisdom about Odissi dance...But the thing i noticed in this dance , that the androgyny quality celebrated , which is remarkable... There is no one can do Radha better than Guru Kelucharan Mahapatra....woww..❤

What a soulful, blissful soothing and captivatingsong mam , I don't think any one in future will born to compensate the great Sanskrit scholar guru Sri jaidev. I request u to appeal to you govt of India to award or scholarship every year in his memory so that it will be fitting tribute to the great poet,similarly kelubabu whose hard perseverance odissi could reach out crossing the boundary of India to award Bharat Ratna. It was kabi kali patnaik whose hard work odissi got classical dance award but painful to note, odissi song yet to get classic. me a lay men reg art, dance, culture thinks a lot why odissi song is deprived of getting classic status, when the dance form is so beautiful, graceful, how can the song which is quite inseparable deprived from awarding classical. U non Indian odissi dancers as well as non odia dancers should appeal to the govt. Odissi and odisa cannot be undermine, a rich in culture, rich in minerals but lags economically. It was great Ravindra tagore quoted Odisa the soul of India. Our CM Mr pat only knows Odisa has been Historically neglected but don't know how to mend.
I agree with you and suggest you request Odia CM to recommend this, especially scholarships in his name and bharat ratna as he is a very wise and cultured man. I personally have no central government connections, awards or even any funding from Dept of Culture or SNA so any others would be in a better position to recommend these if they were willing to do so. but he lives in our hearts and memories and fortunately there are a few recorded performances for future generations

all lyrics are available on google. Gurui generally took 4 stanzas of the 8 in each ashtapadi.

yes, proud of such traditions that now belong to the world. I am an expat living in India for 50 years and proud to represent this tradition of Odia Sanskriti. Guru kelucharan mohapatra said in the 1980's that I was one of only 5 of his disciples that could represent his art to the world.
