  • In this video, we'll show you how to replace bearings in heavy duty electric motors.
    We'll review roller, shielded and sealed bearings, sleeve bearings, angular contact bearings, and insulated bearings.
    Check out this video if you've ever wondered why bearings fail too soon, how to tell if your bearings need to be replaced, how to find replacement bearings, where to buy replacement electric motor bearings, and how to replace them.
    1. Set aside time (2-10 hours)
    2. Prepare your workspace
    3. Disconnect power to the motor and disassemble
    4. Remove the old bearing with a bearing puller
    5. Inspect the old bearing
    6. Clean the motor shaft
    7. Inspect the new bearing, grease if needed
    8. Heat the new bearing with an induction heater
    9. Install using a bearing installation kit (do not misalign)
    10. Reassemble and reconnect power to the motor

    Hi, What is the benefit of the piece behind the bearing that you did not remove from the shaft?

    • @emotorsdirect
      @emotorsdirect  Před 11 měsíci

      I believe you're referring to the rotor end ring. That is the object directly behind the bearing. The benefit of end rings is that they connect all the windings together so that current can flow as opposed to building up and arcing.
      Thanks for the comment! Hope this helps.

      @@emotorsdirect thats wrong, i talk about bearing cover

    • @emotorsdirect
      @emotorsdirect  Před 11 měsíci +1

      @@fee2044 Bearing covers come in two parts that are bolted together in order to enclose the bearing and prevent foreign particles from entering and causing fouling. The bearing cover only needs to be removed if damaged or worn and since this one was fine it was not removed.

    Does current pass through these bearings?

    • @emotorsdirect
      @emotorsdirect  Před 4 měsíci

      It's not supposed to, but it can if there are large voltage spikes on the input.
