    Ashley, I'm that weird guy that emails you occasionally that bought 10 of your tubs. It all started here with this video. To date this is the best video I've watched if you want to get from a to z. I would have emailed you sooner but I started 8 of your tubs on different dates. I'm going to have to look and see what the date was but I've been picking shrooms damn near every day since and watching then grow in between. Since the variety I grow only works 7 days or so apart I have avoided addiction to mushrooms but become addicted to growing them. I gave 2 of your tubs to a good friend with a touch of ptsd and depression. He's gotten hooked now as well. I just want to say thank you. I am now self sufficient. No longer do I slow down to do the speed limit or lower to look in a cow pasture after a rain. It doesn't matter now. I'm going to give 3 of my used ones away tomorrow and create another addict. I'm also going to cheat on you and try growing outside which I hope you won't take personally. For anyone thinking there's no way I can do it you can if you can follow directions. 2 tubs would easily keep someone self sufficient and it is thoroughly entertaining and highly rewarding.

    I don't know if anybody has said this yet but if you drill in reverse you will likely not crack your tub. Also you can put tape before drilling that will dramatically reduce your cracking as well. Great video though thank you so much for sharing your knowledge

      Also if you dip the drill bit in dish soap it will help. I worked on lots of little projects where I had to drill holes in many little plastic items. Pre-taping combod with the dish soap dip had very high success rates even with cheap bits.

    Here's a simple tip that I haven't seen in a single monotube vid I've watched on YT.... when you're drilling your holes with a hole saw bit... REVERSE the DRILL direction... If. you run the bit in reverse, it'll drill plastic or plexiglass just fine and reduce the chances or cracking the plastic drastically.. ;). (I'm a long time woodworker.. learned this trick a few decades ago..)

    Love your videos. If you run your drill in revers the teeth of the hole saw will in essence be whipping at the plastic instead of digging in to the plastic, this will prevent cracking and give you a smother hole. but run the drill in forward direction until the drill bit go's through the plastic then revers for the large hole.

With the holes 3" from bottom does it seem to work better and is this with the 500 gms Cocoa Coir, 500 gms Vermiculite and 100 grams of gypsum mix? Wanted to be sure I had enough depth for the Spawn and Substrate. Thanks and love your videos.

Some thinner plastics you can cut the whole hole in reverse thicker switch to forward and apply light even pressure after spinning to heat up

If I had to guess based off the video we are prob 50% colonized rn.

    Hi Ash.......I'm a bit confused regarding the conditions that best suit both the colonizing of a grain spawn bag, and especially regarding the colonizing of the bulk substrate in the mono tub. It seems that with the red plugs in place during colonizing of the substrate, that there would be virtually no ventilation during that process. Is that what's desired? I had followed another mono tub YT video before seeing yours, and he had 2" holes stuffed with polyfill for the colonization phase and fruiting phase......Ashley, please sort me out!! Much Love&Light......D

      Yes, but the tub is not completely sealed and does allow for some air flow. But you can also you polyfil or micropore tape from the start. I just like to keep the humidity up while its colonizing then bring it down for fruiting.

      You definitely don't want it too wet. Can you send some pictures to me via email? ashley@boomershroomer.com

    I noticed in one of your other videos you have a light attached to the underside of the lid, Is that required or optional? If so what kind of light? How did you attach it?

    • @BoomerShroomer
      @BoomerShroomer  Před 3 lety +1

      Definitely optional. I added for a timelapse. The tub just needs a little indirect light.

    So why do you need to plug up the holes during colonization, couldnt you just leave the cotton in the holes to keep fae going?

    Can you go into more detail about how you make the liner? Or are they premade?

    tip for when drilling the holes in your tub with a hole saw once the tip of the drill bit goes in change the drill to reverse for the rest of the cutting

    So I’ve seen a video where someone said you can just take the top lid and just leave a crack open for air to get through so am I able to do that or do I have to add holes for air flow?

    What is the size of the drill bit you use?

  • @naturallydope247
    @naturallydope247 Před 2 lety +1

    The plugs you linked to are a 1.25" diameter. In the video you mentioned a 1" hole to drill the holes. Is this the right size cap you linked?

    Near 4:02 RE: "once a day open up your tub and fan it" you mean fan the tub *only* during the fruiting stage, right??? Or? Thanks!

    • @BoomerShroomer
      @BoomerShroomer  Před 3 lety

      Yep, you are correct. Once you switch to fruiting you start to fan twice a day.

    hi. do you still recommend using the foam plugs from your site? they seem a lot easier and more convenient than polyfill.

      I really don’t use it anymore because I spray them down myself. I feel like I can control the environment better. Just a plain Monotub seems to work the best. Been experimenting with different sizes lastly.

    I’ve grown in a clear container and it was fine. But has anyone used the black tubs from Home Depot? Wouldn’t it be better and a liner wouldn’t be necessary, right? Any help would be great

  • @jakerand7474
    @jakerand7474 Před 2 lety +2

    I see people recommending a step drill bit. That's fine, but if you would like to continue using that bit, just run the drill backwards. It won't crack thin plastic material and will give you a much smoother cut.

    If you plug the holes during colonization stage, won't that prevent air/gas exchange?

    • @BoomerShroomer
      @BoomerShroomer  Před 3 lety

      It’s not plugged super tight. There is some air exchange. It keep the humidity up during colonization.
