Pro tip: Robbie Krieger is the most underrated guitarist in all of classic rock.
Captain Freedom I agree with that, sir.
Damn right, my friend...
The sad part is everyone including Jim were underrated. I mean sure Jim gets all the Credit for the doors, but without Ray, Robbie and John the doors wouldn’t of come close to there success... Jim would of been the first to say that too and that’s why Jim wouldn’t have ever tried to leave the doors for a solo career... ✌️
True, underrated esp. compared to the Beatles & the like but there was some similarity between them when both bands' high profile members left their respective groups, influenced heavily by their GF's.
well dancing is fun, guitars rock but what do you want from music? To be put in a trance and learn form a preacher - satisfaction
Jim’s gift to music is his primal scream. No other singer can belt out those phrases at the TOP of his lungs (in tune, I might add), like “Let me SLEEP all night in your Soul Kitchen”!
Listen to any Doors song. He reels you in softly, then SCREAMS out phrases like “Try to set the night on FFFFIIIIIIEEERRRR, yeah” or “Breakfast where the news is read”! Magic.
Excellent point. The power of his vocal exclamations were like no other singer. And he REALLY *meant* it.
Yes, always loved Jim's way of letting go in a moment, from smooth crooning to an almost manic (in the best way) explosion of passion! Great stuff, can't think of anyone who comes close to that.
Robert Plant. The bést. Ann wilson
Love jim, but Layne's got him beat.
Robert Plant
This is the first pop.
John Densmore said most of his tunes come from salsa and Hispanic percussion. Ray Manzarek had a sound only described as wizardry. Jim Morrison is a mythical creature with skills of timeless illusions. Robby Krieger is just an underrated angel.
Huh? First pop? Not. And this is ROCK. 🤦♀️
This doenst have a category.. its simply amazing and transcendental
this is not the first pop. haha
What are you smoking mate?
I will listen to The Doors until they bury my fckin body
100% Baby!!!
Marios Supernaut I want Doors music playing as they are lowering my effin body into the ground! Twentieth Century Fox is my choice.
queue feast of friends ✌️
This is the one right here
@@szqsk8 The Changeling for me!
Densmore shines on drums and Ray is a minimalist genius!
Just one of the coolest "perk organ" sounds in the last 56 years...Ray always called it the "Cheesy California Organ", the Vox Continental (oh, what would one be worth today). Always loved Ray's chops!
Hard to believe this GREAT Song and version is 50 YEARS OLD this year!!!
Feels like only 27 😉
@@ianappleton8507 times two = old 🖤
The band was very much ahead of their time.
Now 55 yrs old!
Update!!!
ITS STANDN. STILL. ME2...
Best front man ever! I love how he taunts the audience, his jumping around on stage, throwing himself to the stage floor, etc., whipping the crowd up into a frenzy. Nobody better.
Greatest rock and roll band
Mick jagger would have something to say about this
@@OgBlCkFooTAgreed! Although I do love Jim Morrison!
complete brat
R.I.P. Jim Morrison (1943-1971)
R.I.P. Ray Manzarek (1939-2013)
Listening to great music makes me feel so alive
What's not to like about this song? way ahead of it's time. RIP Ray. you rocked.
What happens at 2:38 is the most epic stage win ever!
238 that was amazing
ghostdog7575 👍🏼😎👍🏼 camera man was amazed too
Unbelievable 😂😂😂
Proof that he wasn't always wasted on stage.
If only he woulda caught a pair of panties around his neck id be more impressed...
But it'd have to be some damn big panties.....nevermind 😅🤣🤣🤣
This Doors music that was recorded Live at the Matrix was one of their best live recordings because the sound quality is excellent! In addition, they did a great job with Soul Kitchen!
johnmillercpainc exactly and they were trying hard including Mr. Jim Morrison
And you sir have a real talent for nailing down what we just witnessed. Without that bold linear comparison I don’t think I would have ever been able to iron out the wrinkles of my complex enjoyment. Except I guess, from just enjoying the jam in the first place.
8-23. ❤
Pppoppo
I will just love the doors until the last day o lf my life
gerardo barrera the music is your only friend... until the end
You will love them in the afterlife too. Break on thru...
Soul Kitchen is a tribute to a soul food restaurant Jim Morrison ate at on Venice Beach called Olivia's.
Well, a tribute to women's sex, in truth
Thenx
Memories of my junior high school days..still listening 50+yrs later. Feb 2020
“You could say it's an accident that I was ideally suited for the work I am doing. It's the feeling of a bow string being pulled back for 23 years and suddenly being let go.” ... Jim Morrison
I was ONE then. Now I’m 57. Wow!
This is EARLY, great stuff. Ray is great and Robbies guitar is great! This song exemplifies The Doors.
What about john? Don't forget him.
I wish I could have been here for this sf needs a cultural revival!
Nicki Mckay Yea seriously..Downtown is full of junkies and methheads now...It breaks my heart :(
Wow your beautiful! 😌
Hey Ray, say hi to Jimmy for me :)
2:38 epic...for that time..pur energy..best. Band ever...
Still epic today :D
wild that music caused this much craziness back in 1967 - love this tune
WE CRANKT IT IN FIELDS...
Great lyrics, meaning...thank you for posting.
Perhaps recorded at the Matrix (small club in SF) but the opening visual was a performance at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds in San Jose (CA), over which the song is dubbed of course.
Amazing
Jim Morrison at the county fair .....oh to have been there I was born '67
I never really cared for this song till i heard this live version
J'adore Jim Morrison depuis 1995 je suis un fan
learn to forget, learn to forget ...
There is so much footage here that I've never seen before.
Dang, me too.....and I've seen a lot of Doors footage!
I wanna make a party and listen to this song over and over all night
I've read that they "the band members + some friends" used to go to a restaurant where it was open 24/7 the food was lovely and the place itself was very warm, cosy you know.. and they refer to this place as the soul kitchen.
That trippy lil blippy organ note so catchy and crazy Jim ❤️ i was born in 67
the doors = the masters of the perception,,
uno de mis mejores viajes lsd a sido con este rolon rock the amo douglas hoy y siempre
EXCELLENT song by The Doors!--One of their best!
A truly great song. Far beyond my capabilities to boil down which of their songs are among their best. I suppose that's because I've never heard any Doors music that wasn't essentially excellent. I feel like that about others, too, especially Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and the Grateful Dead. Those artists and the Doors are, to me, on a whole 'nuther level. Their music sounds as good to me today and is just as relevant as it was the first time I ever heard it.
Jim Morrison equals Awesome! The Doors my all time Favorite American band! Thanks for posting!
evidently I sang this song at karoke the other night! I think I might have broke something starting with my back! Three people on all sides of town said "Fucking Soul Kitchen Chris" -- even at the grocery store!
The Doors were the first American group, which wasn't pieced together from some previous "super group" to have a #1 hit single on their very 1st record. The 1st to stay on the top 20 for SIX MONTHS! The first American group to earn a platinum album. ALL heir studio albums went gold. There was nothing like them before, and nothing like them since. Q: Who did they sound like? A: Nobody! The Doors sounded like "The Doors". They were American Originals! So.... is everybody in?!
No one held an audience like Morrison that's for sure🙂
It looks like a pretty wild time.
Les Ger it was
1st time I saw a vid with so many hits & zero dislikes / thumbs down. Doors & Morrison truely were special !
I had a bootleg version of Live at the Matrix I bought in the mid-70s. But the sound quality was not good on that vinyl. But the quality of this recording is very good. With today's technology and finding of original tapes, music on UTube is often better than when it was first released. Been about 40 years since I last heard this version.
Not many bootlegs we're of good quality. I've got a Jethro Tull one that's not bad. Def some bad ones
You gotta LOVE the 2:40 mark. Pretty Good . . . Pretty Neat
Everyone says "hi!"
Be seeing you...
Doors belong indoors.
learn to forget
Jim is praying for us...
THe best band ever!
The singing at the end is awesome.
Excellent
Adelantado a su era 🔥
Hilarious footage of Jim running to hide under the stage... brilliant performance this take.
Love they Doors
Light another cigarrette, learn to forget 🚬
f****ing cool
amazing especially 2:20-3:40 or so. RIP Ray Manzarek.
RIP, Ray. 😭
❤ remastered tapes finally. 8-3-23 😊
Concert the year I was born, posted on the day I was born, 2011! Great video!
This concert is from 44 years prior, yet to this day no one has ever written subliminal lyrics nor has a band been able to play improv around a singer who arrived either straight, drunk, tripping or on heroin and tranquilizers as the Doors. Grace Slick singer for Jefferson Airplane was amazed at the versatility of the band, yet after Jim's death the band's music it produced wasn't the high quality it had been. Many one hit wonders are out there, but no one has loved all the songs of this group like that of the Doors, generation after generation because of their free spirited sound. try listening to "end of the night" and "Indian summer"
Truly on point as many other bands would have disbanded at some point but somehow the other 3 didn't allow their own egos to disrupt the flow during that creative time period & realizing he was the nucleus, evolved to become one of the best improvising bands on the planet so that's a testament to those 3 Doors members.
Love john you
Sofi Lopez garcia back off John is mine.
I love this song.
they did this without morrison once to my way of thinking the musick is the best eye like the song it was the best doors song ever
Wish you were here.... 💕
Genius all of them
OUT OF SIGHT AND OUT OF MIND I MEAN FAROUT OF MIND AND SPACE AND ALL TIME!!!!!!!!!
This is alot better fidelity than I've heard before. Sounds like a later version.
great!
Jim is a 👽 the best
👍⭐💕👌🤘💣💥
había visto algunas fotos del primer concierto pero no en video, me recuerda al Hollywood bowl.
Great Soft !!! Like me still 1 place for me to go.....
I always felt this is the greatest doors song. It just explodes on the millenial streets of San Jose, Hawthorne, Quincy the Bronx . Too fast for the band to think there doing it auto and barely hanging on.
Robbie's guitar rhythm riff behind the verses was meant to replicate a James Brown band horn section (soul right?). Think he did an awesome job!
Que video tan chingon, arriba los doors....
long live the Lizard king.
Best video 🏆
like the doors
into your soul kitchen.... wow no surprise
The doors👍😘 ❤😇
The Doors ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Lo mejor de lo mejor
Good audio!
This sounds great
YEAH!❗✔
Genius.
That keyboard is so groovy this whole song is so damn groovy
como uan cancion puede cabiarte todo en la puta vida los mejores the doooooooooooooors
Ray Manzarek quel génie ce mec ! Il a laissé un grand vide dans la sphère musicale.
Obviously this outdoor concert is NOT the Matrix, but some early 8mm footage, some of the last known footage of the great band playing at an outdoor venue.
nice ring ring xx
Jim Morrison was so Nice
Ray Manzarek is No1!
rain in spain falls mILY ON THE PLAILN
I would say as a casual observer that in this footage they are performing "unknown soldier" although I could be wrong but who is to really know with all the editing that people do I know not why attention maybe disillusionment most probably .This recording is at the matrix as far as we are to know from what we are feed in exchange for money.
0:52 someone threw a rock right at jims pants bulge for doing that spaz dance lmao..
JACK MEOFF FUCK I'm laughing so hard at that
the doors r 🎶🎶🎶🎵🎵🎵🎹
Although the song is credited to the whole band I saw a Sky UK documentary about the making of the album & the surviving members/producers etc said that Morrison mainly wrote it - i.e. the tune as well as the lyrics. Apparently he wrote a lot of their tunes, even though he couldn't play any instrument.
LEARN to forget...
Miami was tough, the behavior was not up for debate, it was artistic reference. #thedoors Everyone should be real before they start talking #Mindsmorality
Agreed,thanks for posting
The power of Morrison here is shattering . Nixon said he had something , but blew it at Miami. But he did really say it. Forget this, just love your chick, bird, girfriend or casual
ME VUELVE
L O K O
THE DOORS
I don't know how he caught that necklace but that was impressive. Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha
His necklace at 2 : 39 great catch 🖤 🇺🇸
