    'Why are you here?'
This channel is managed by the Krishnamurti Foundation Trust, UK, and by the Krishnamurti Foundation of America.
The role of the foundations was described by Krishnamurti when he said, 'The foundations will see to it that these teachings are kept whole, are not distorted, are not made corrupt. They will not give rise to any sectarian spirit in their activities... nor create any kind of place of worship around the teachings or the person.'
We maintain extensive archives of Krishnamurti's original works and all four Krishnamurti foundations are actively engaged in the publication of material in various forms.
Our videos contain thousands of subtitles in more than 25 languages, translated by volunteers from all over the world. If you would like to help us with translating subtitles, please contact us at digital@kfoundation.org

I was in the audience when this was recorded. His presence is just as strong on video. Don’t feel you’ve missed out.
His books The first and last, freedom. The awakening of Intelligence, Krishnamurti’s Notebook and Commentaries on living ( 3rd series) I found particularly helpful. Also his biographies.
I struggled for years to understand what he was/is pointing to. He helped me see more clearly the pitfalls of life from the age of 15. I’m still trying to answer/live the question he poses at the end here (not conceptually). Aren’t we all?
It may have been at the end of this session that he said “Please if I may request .... don’t clap. If you clap you are clapping for yourself ... or” , he laughed, “clap when I’m not here”.😀

synchronicity676 An Australian Woman sat beside me at lunch after one of the talks. She said K had changed her life and wished she could thank him. She hadn’t realised he had his lunch with everyone else in the tent. I said “He’s over there”. He was standing, looking around while eating from a paper plate . She went over to him and shook his hand. I didn’t feel a need to speak to him in person. If you read his notebook you sense the quality that he was pointing to and which we are all capable of realising. Throughout his life he saw people, by appointment, individually for 20 or 30 minute sessions, several times a day. Many of these conversations are captured in the Commentaries on living series.

I think if Krishnamurti would’ve read these comments he would feel nothing but balance because he doesn’t let his ego get the best of him. Also, he would tell us to not see him as a wise man and not put him on a pedestal but to just see him as a person who wants to help. The best thing as a society we can do is be kind to everyone and never treat someone else MORE or LESS. To just be.

According to his biographers, around that time (he was 90) he was wondering why people came to his talks, some of them year after year after year, without any apparent change in their lives. So he asked that particular audience at the particular time and place. As usual, it was not a philosophical question, but simply factual. What the hell are you doing here in this nasty weather (if nothing comes of it). He posed the question because he wanted the people present to ask themselves. He was also often asked through the years why he kept on talking. He answered that with the mirror metaphor. There is no use trying to divine a "philosophy" from what he says. The man was dealing with facts. You can debate opinions and theories forever, but facts you must see. Such as: your admiration, or enmity, of Krishnamurti prevents you from seeing. And as he said, once you see the facts for yourself what use is the mirror.

This is love talking. It would have been fitting were he to have passed in front of his audience slumping in his chair. That last effort on his breath. Interesting paradox.. if you're right in your statement, then you're also wrong and don't know it. (you're proclaiming a truth, then by your logic stating that you must not know it). Not saying this in a bad way, it's just interesting :)

  • @erik-andrehegna6654

To try to answer his question:
I think our brains have evolved over many years in the search of exploring the unknown. To be able to grow bit by bit, generation by generation (when we are not stuck with fear). We now have extra-ordinary brains as he said, but where will we be in another 1000 years if we keep striving to learn, to accomplish, to explore? We are also where we are today because people strived for a better future, more information, greater experiences generations before us. When I think about "the striving", I also think about the word "flow". Because to be alive you have to move. Nothing can stand absolutly 100% still and be alive. Not an ant, not a tree, not the river, no human.
So: we are formed and shaped by the striving/exploration of all things before us, which generate a new understanding and more striving/exploration in the furture, which again will shape the world for another tomorrow. Are we moving towards something? I do not know. But I feel its like my imagination. I get a thought, a problem to solve, something to ponder on from a friend, family member or and observation. And a new world of understanding and experience can grow out of it. Its like we like we live in an physical imagination xD

Interesting timing in my life for this most profound of questions. I like that he asked it of himself as well. What am I doing? I think that we ask this question, because we need the feeling of "having a use", which is nothing but an intellectual hobbyhorse. There is no use that we can understand. This leads to a kind of anxiety. The answer to the question is trust in whatever put us here (even if that is "just" evolution, which in my mind is more wonderfully complex than any human conception of God can ever be) and stopping the attachement of such importance to this blink in eternity that we are here.
It is of the utmost imporance that whatever happens now, happens exactly as it is happening. There is nothing I can do to stop it or further it, all I can be is a thankful witness and pay attention.
So why did I decide to listen to the speaker? Why is it important that I know? Or is it the intention of the speaker that we question the question and thereby our motivation to do anything and the perceived importance thereof?
