Of course americans hate universal healthcare. Doctors don't become millionaires and insurance companies don't make huge profit. It's a nightmare for them. The idea of not taking sick people for every dollar they have is just ludicrous to americans.

Yes, in Australia, we do have universal healthcare. The poorest of the poor can walk into an emergency room and be treated for absolutely no charge. For some procedures there is a waiting list but, eventually, even non life threatening procedures (such as hip replacements) will be done for free. Yes, we pay taxes for that benefit, but that's what you do if you preference a society over an economy.
I'll give Australia that, but the problem with Australia is that the government is corrupt in other ways, there a bunch of criminal Trump clones there who are wiping out Australia's environment including the Great Barrier Reef for their thieving corrupt greed.
I totally agree. Our government's blinkered attitude to climate change, its appalling actions in regards to asylum seekers and the internment camp like facilities of, for example, Manus Island is disgusting. We have bigotry and greed just as America does. I'm ashamed of that.

Actually the Civil War was more about Northern aggression against the Southern States. Lincoln (if we were to apply the dictum that "War is the failure of diplomacy") was a failure. A President that caused the death of 600,000 people- citizens and countless adventurer/mercenaries from Canada, Europe and Ireland, etc. did end slavery but that wasn't his motive for the war-it was an adjunct.
Lincoln and the north didn't want slavery to apply to the new States recently stolen from Mexico but was OK with a gradual weaning away from slavery from the South. Most slaveholders were wealthy and Lincoln didn't really want to open up that "can of worms" . Let's read what he said:

Alf, c'mon. Doing some quick research shows that many countries with universal healthcare have just as quick care access as the US, and obviously if it's a medial emergency you're not waiting for care. Don't be silly.
And even if what you incorrectly assumed WAS true, I'd still rather wait 4 months for basic health care than be left in debt or dead because of expense or lack of access in the US.
I'm Canadian. Time to wait for an emergency - seconds to hours, depending on the nature of the emergency. Time to see a GP for minor problems - an hour to maybe a day. Time to wait for an annual physical - maybe a few weeks to a month. Time for a non-critical MRI - 6 months free or 2 days ($500 to $2500) private. Time for (elective pain controlling) back surgery - 8 months free, or 1 month private ($10,000 cost). We have single-payer for basic care and add-on insurance for prescriptions, dental, optical. It's not perfect but it is pretty decent care, especially if you have a good GP.

To be fair, I've made my way through a (smaller I think) bill of legalese once before, and that was mentally draining stuff. If I had a team of people to analyze those and give me the abridged version, I likely would.
It's fairly common practice. They just don't have the time to read everything that comes their way. If it's something they sponsored or care a great deal, then perhaps. I think the criticism here is not that they don't read bills they vote on, but the fact that they didn't read such a consequential bill. I guess if I want to be generous, they knew the senate was going to change the bill a lot anyway, so they just sent a rough draft, and when it bounces back from the senate they can actually read it.

Lawrence Bader not sure how you figure that since in head to head polls Bernie beats Don the Con by 15%+. And the policies Bernie supports are overwhelmingly popular when taken issue by issue, Bernie would mop the floor with the con man in chief, just like he would have done in 2016 if the DNC and DWS hadn't rigged the primary.
Really not a fan of how Stephen acts like Bernie was a better choice, when at the time he wrote him off and sided with Hillary Clinton... yet now he acts like he loved Bernie...
