Better Call Saul is the prequel to the award-winning series Breaking Bad, set six years before Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) became Walter White's lawyer. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and often against, Jimmy is "fixer" Mike Erhmantraut (Jonathan Banks), a beloved character introduced in Breaking Bad. The series will track Jimmy's transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts "criminal" in "criminal lawyer."

The "no refunds" actor is a friend of mine. Great guy, but in almost all his parts he gets killed or beaten up. One of these days I hope he gets to be the good guy.
Whos your friend? Tell him I wish him luck!
@@danielwormald4666 His name is Derek Russo. We were both comedians, believe it or not, and played some of the same shows together. He's a really good, really smart, really funny guy, but because of his appearance seemingly always has to play meatheads.
Tell him he is a lucky b because of sharing a scene with Tony Dalton, and please get me an autograph of him 😅
Hi I'm gay.

I just realized that Lalo first asks for the receptionist in Spanish to see if she speaks the language. Then because she doesn’t, he can talk to Hector without her overhearing anything. That’s clever!
Yeah, big Mindhunter vibes.

“I told you…be nice.” I love that line so much. For as much of a cruel, sadistic, soulless monster Lalo is he still clings tightly to the grace and aires he cultivates. Always polite, affable, accommodating. It’s like he takes offense to anyone being as viscous as he is without plastering a smile over it.
I love that too
Vicious man. Not viscous. But also viscous too
I think outside his cartel life he’s a genuinely wholesome human being.. enjoying cooking, talking to people and normal everyday things.. but his cartel life requires him to be so cold and calculated.. and he switches off either side so quick it’s what makes him such a psychopath - - he’s not faking his nice side like Gustavo and doesn’t have to force his evil side like Walter sometimes did.
@@firstlast9846 Do you remember how Lalo's ranch servants were terrified of him? And how he killed them? Hard to separate the man from his cartel life, the cartel was his entire life. Yes, a soldier can generally compartmentalize his military service, but it's different for Lalo - his entire family was in service to the cartel 24/7
@@pozloadescobar hmmm that's true.. but I seem to remember the staff loving him.
I cringed when they told him “no refunds”. We all knew that was an instant death sentence. It’s amazing how Lalo can be both charming and scary at the same time. Huge props to Tony Dalton for portraying Lalo to perfection.

Lalo was the scariest Salamanca. Not only was he the smartest out of all the Salamanca’s he was also the most friendliest which was a disguise from the sociopath killer that Lalo was.

Lalo is charming but still a killer
Hector was cruel and ruthless
Tuco was brutal and intimidating
The twins were silent but relentless.
And Abuelita wanted to use club soda.
The messed up thing is that all of them save Hector probably don't have Antisocial Personality Disorder. They were just tortured by Hector so much it drove them crazy.
@@DollanFerinal are you speculating, or is this cannon?
True, sort of. Not trying to nitpick here but the word 'psychopath' is kind of weird word. The connotations are probably apt to your descriptions but on paper, the word psychopath is just a glorified and/or informal term for sociopath which is a word used to describe someone with ASD; antisocial personality disorder. And tbh, the only Salamanca who presented *true* ASD traits was in fact Lalo.
@@Ryan88881 I agree. All of them have some sort of empathy and moral value. The twins care about their families, Tuco cares about his abuelita and Hector, and Hector cared about the Debose Cansogme
I love how this shows that Lalo has just a BIT more humanity than his sick twin cousins. They blew up the entire truck of immigrants because they were recognized but here is Lalo, faking his own death, and only murders the bad guys while refunding the cash of the poor immigrants. As a Mexican… listening to the way Lalo raves about “hurting” Gustavo reveals an almost child-like, irrational anger. It also tells you a great deal about the dynamic between Hector and Lalo. Hector is a real twisted individual.
wouldnt call it irrational considering that gus attempted to have him murdered and killed all of his workers in the process
@Professor Thinker yeah, I know. I’m saying listen to the tone. He’s serious about proving Gus is who he is to his uncle.

"Irrational?" They guy murdered his house staff.
@MyMotif Nah. Lalo is polite and reasonable. Hector is just a hate machine.
Such a nice detail Lalo puts the step out for the people inside truck. His 'nice-guy' persona is so extremely well-polished that it's hard to see through it.
That’s because neither side is fake
@@FMDedits thank you!! I don't get why people think it's fake. Why would he fake anything to people that he knows damn well he's about to kill??

This is the exact moment Lalo became disappointed of their no-refund policy
Bavro, Binve!
Can we talk about how good Margolis is as Tio here. His show of emotion when he realised it was Lalo was amazing given his limited performance!!
I like that Lalo isn’t just charming, but he actually has some principles too. He could have just taken everyone’s money, but he chose to give it back to them instead.
Yeah first time I saw him was in this scene and I thought he was a good guy, like the hero of the show or something. Only later did I find he's actually so evil.
He is highly-disciplined , from the performance of him tracking and monitoring Mike's team
It's basic common sense, not principles.
First, he doesn't need that money, his family drug trade makes so much that he actually could have given those people some extra just to keep'em silent.
Second, he knows those people are poor and scared so they're more likely not to snitch on him considering that weird mixture of fright and gratitude they fell towards him.
And third, in case they are caught by police or some other gang, the absence of money would suggest there was a third party involved.
@@Haktarrr why would the absence of money suggest there was a third party involved?
Principles LMAO. This is how the Cartels win over the populace, exploitation. There's nothing principled about it. By giving back the money, he paints an image that the Cartel are good, whilst these people return back home to suffer their fates under the Cartel because they weren't able to escape North.
I love how, despite his ruthless and psychotic nature, he was still level headed and kind enough to return everyone’s money
Kind, or just doing the right thing? Criminals can have morals (note he didn't kill them, like the twins killed the smugglers in BB)
@@jonathanbaron-crangle5093 he doesn't have morals. If he had morals he wouldn't have killed the skinny guy in the store for no reason.

Once Lalo was killed, you can tell Hector sorta gave up. He was the only Salamanca who seemed to live up to Hector's ideals.
The show becomes even better when you know what they're saying. It feels different.

I like how Lalo would also call the Nursing Home and speak Spanish first, make sure the nurse could not understand him, and then switch to English, so he knew he could have a private conversation with Hector in Spanish
Love the contrast between Lalo and the Twins in how they handled being smuggled across the border with other immigrants.
The Twins definitely had a different way of doing things...
@@kevinmartin5969 They were less clever. Lalo was smart enough to know that these migrants were obviously too scared to rat on him.
I really like how Lalo takes the time to go through the whole ABC with Hector
Love the difference in style between Lalo and the Cousins. The cousins killed all potential witnesses, whereas Lalo takes the risk so he doesn’t kill people whom it would give him 0 pleasure to kill.
I love how this shows Hector is actually really smart and strategical. Even though we mostly see him as a dumb ruthless brute, he was smart enough to build the Salamanca’s cartel and this is a little glimpse at that prowess. He knew Lalo’s plan wasn’t enough because Don Eladio would never side with them even if they got their revenge without proof. Lalo is already very strategic but Hector was able to correct his plan immediately after hearing it once, and Lalo knows Hector is wise and has a point so he respects his input and reframes his plan.

This show is like a well-crafted Bach fugue, presenting a complex web of themes and motifs that blend together seamlessly, creating a rich and harmonious viewing experience. A beautiful masterpiece to watch unfold.
Looking back at Breaking Bad, this is a big difference to how the Salamanca Twins treated the smuggled.
Walt was lucky not to have to deal with Lalo at the times of BB.
Lalo would've killed Walt and Jesse in season one if he were the one in charge and not Tuco.

One of the perks of running and illegal operation, you can demand payment before service (see also: Jesse having to pay additional to get vacuumed). It's not like they can complain to customer sevice
But there obviously was one. Lalo presumably paid them prior to this scene.
What a thoughtful guy, after making sure everyone would get their money back, he also grabbed the basket from the back of the truck and set it down so the folks had something to step down upon when they exited the vehicle.
I love how Lalo lets everyone go, but the twins shot up a whole truck.
They weren’t the brightest. Lalo was smart enough to know that these terrified migrants wouldn’t rat him out.
Do you notice how the nurse says “another” call? That’s probably why he looks so depressed and why he gets so happy when he hears lalo’s voice. They probably called and told him what happened.
Love how Lalo put that Duramax to the limit as he was leaving.
i love it when you can see when members of a family truly love each other!
after 4 or so watches I only now noticed Lalo putting down the milk crate when leaving the truck. such a class act lol
Lalo is quite possibly my favorite television character ever
Lalo is a mixed bag of psychotic and sensible. He's not a good man. He'll kill anyone who gets between him and what he wants, innocent or not. He has his own sort of code and you can more or less tell if you're in his danger zone, but he's still a cold blooded killer. At the same time, he seems to harbor genuine respect for working class people. Struggling people. He'll kill them if he feels he needs to. But he won't step on them or punish them just for being poor.
Lalo is a character that shows great writing.
He's a monster. But he's a redeemable monster when in frame.
Bro just killed them cause he felt like it 💀
They should have been nicer.
Nope. He needed his money back.
Can’t believe he was wasted on Hawkeye… at least it helped in getting his name out there
Who knows he might return. In the comics he his character is a hero
The patience and kindness he shows his uncle makes his callousness toward others all the more intense and meaningful
"A mi casa, tio!" One of the few times you see him express unbridled anger.
This show is so well written.
Basically Alejandro from Modern Warfare 2 if he decided for a criminal life.
Tuco would have taken the money
The Twins would have executet everyone
Lalo excused and gave them their Money back.
I don’t think Lalo is a total psychopath /sociopath. He actually enjoys human beings. It’s just his loyalty to his family compels him to do whatever it takes to protect their interests , at all costs. He despises rudeness , he’s very polite and he is conscious of social norms. But he is committed to the family he’s born in. He’s no different than a wolf in his wolf pack or a Lion in hjs pride.
Wrong. You would be an easy victim for these guys
I think you're right to some degree but you're forgetting how Lalo was pounding on the aquarium, upsetting the fish.
"It never hurts to be polite."
I love Hectors eyes his acting with just his face is hilarious to me
Lalo needs his own show!
The body language detail is great here; the smugglers with their arms crossed, clearly in a very defensive position despite trying to portray toughness, while Lalo has his arms by his side, very confident and not considering them a threat at all. They are faking confidence while he is actually confident.
"It'll just be one more minute."
Proceeds to get a word one letter at a time.
So rutheless, yet so charming and funny.
I love how the idea that he turns or angles his shots so they don't go into the back of the truck and hit someone.
So nice of Lalo to make sure everybody got their money back. He would make a great business partner in a legitimate enterprise

I feel like Lalo is the more reasonable of the Salamanca's. If the whole family was Lalo, they'd have been FAR more powerful because they'd have made less stupid, bloodthirsty moves.

The amount of patience and respect Lalo has for Hector is almost wholesome. Almost.
I know it couldn't have happened but I would have loved for nacho to tell the truth to the cartel and start a major conflict against gus fring. I think lalo would have had sympathy for nacho in the season 5 finale if he confessed to being a spy for gus
