- Finally got the STP removed! Then, I took it out for a ride and things got a little sketchy!

Just FYI for your viewers who are contemplating removing their secondary throttle plates, (STP): if you have already gone big bore, by all means yank that thing and enjoy, but: if your bike is still a 250, the STP is NOT the evil, power sucking contraption some would like you to believe. In fact at stock displacement, you probably want it there.
The STP increases the intake tract velocity while the engine is in a low rpm condition allowing more, not less, air/fuel mixture to arrive in your cylinder before the intake valve closes and the computer moves it out of the way once the RPMs start to come up to balance shit out.
On a big bore, the physical volume of the cylinder is obviously larger causing a greater condition of vacuum while the valve is open so anything in the way will eat a little bit of initial umpf, but at stock size, unless you're adding a turbo, velocity is more important than lack of restriction just off idle.
If you are seriously mechanically inclined, and I'm talking to you machinists and fabricators, (not engineers, 😁) you can give the leading edge of the STP that moves in towards the engine and the trailing edge that moves out a slight break and polish to ever-so-slightly increase the intended effect, but honestly, you have a fun little putt-putt, not a arm socket dislocator so it's probably not worth the effort.
Experiment if you like, but that's the reason for the STP and the clean air Nazis didn't do it this time.
Quick question: I have a 300sm with kdx snorkel w/ uni AF, full fmf exhaust, dynojet pc running the 300r full mod tune, pair and o2 valve delete, would it be beneficial for me to do the STP removal? Thanks
Sorry to say, but that "near high side" would have been completely your own fault. The way you move through traffic is eventually going to be your downfall. I'm not having a go at you...just chill on the road a tad.

I just did my compression test on my klx 250 with 12000 miles i used a brand new conpression tester yesterday and it cam out at 160 psi thanks lucas full synthetic :)

Recently went up a road, came back down an hour later at 60mph around a corner I hit all the time and hit a oil spot and did the same thing you did. A guy in a Toyota wheeler lost his drain bolt, and lost all his oil on that corner. Always gotta be careful and geared go be ready to go down

Way to fast for that much traffic. Slow down and enjoy the ride. You don't have enough experience to ride like that. Plus you could have gotten fuel on your rear tire or oil at the gas station.
It seems that the gas station lot was a little wet looking back at the footage. I saw a little water on my tire when I arrived to the parking lot where I was revving the bike up

Thanks! Where I live, there are some dirt roads about 30 minutes away from me, which I want to go to. Most of the single track trails are in the Tillamook forest, which is about an hour away. I plan on stealing one of my parents' trucks and going there soon.

JH Motor Club it seems to be running rather smooth though. Try pulling the air box lid and see if that removes the rest of the bog. Couldn’t hurt just to try it for one video. Beware though it climbs Rpms fast

Yea... upon further investigation, it seems that maybe the gas station lot was wet? Kinda makes me want a supermoto setup, but I'd have to contemplate that idea in another video. But I'm glad the bike didn't grab traction that hard

I tried to get this puppy out on my KLX300SM without removing the throttle body and could not do it. So I removed the throttle body and once I had it out I was able to easily remove the screw holding the plate. You have to remove the tank, several hoses and connectors and the injector with one screw and the body comes out of the top area. Reinstall is not too bad but I ran out of light so back at it tomorrow and will update this thread with my thought on how I like it. I did notice some grime in the body so I cleaned it up. After 2000 miles I was a bit surprised to see it in there. PS no need to remove those green clips. Just remove the one screw holding the injector to the body. Hopefully this is worth it because it is not easy especially with my eyes.
What’s the word on that STP removal. You get some extra power?
@@andrewbryant1536 Way better response and all around power increase. My opinion is that plate is on there to meet emissions for the street. The 300R does not have it because its offroad. Try it you will like it. The Tbody comes out through the top opening directly above it after you remove all the hoses and connectors. There is also a coil spring I removed that you can see on the right side of the tbody. Now its completely controlled by my wrist and no servo motor interference.

Have you considered getting a larger aftermarket tank for a little better range?
One hundred percent! I think my average is about 55 MPG, which is great by any standard. So, that equates to about 75ish miles before the fuel light comes on. A larger tank would bring it to 100 miles a tank before the light, like it was when it was stock.
a little low speed idle roughness but not a deal breaker evidently.

The main place I know of is in the Tillamook forest and it's called Brown's camp. Then I know there is Hood River OHV. Also, I know Estacada has good trails too

I'll definitely be doing this mod soon. That was a close call too! Always be patient while riding, even if you're doing stunts or going fast, if that makes sense. I can get to the Ballance point in 1st gear all stock but you have to shift into 2nd right away to keep it up and so that it's not at 8k. Can't wait to do a few mods and see the outcome. Fun bikes overall. I don't even have my title yet and I just dropped $500 on mods. With just a slip on, throttle blade removed, and snorkel removed do you think I'll need the fuel controller?
Do you think removing the secondary throttle plate would benefit a stage 1 KLX 250?
When my KLX was stage 1, I didn't really see any need for it because I didn't notice much bogging. That's the main reason I did it to mine now. That's not to say however that someone else with their KLX somewhere else will not have some bogging. If working with the EJK doesn't solve any bogging issues, then I would consider the STP. However, most bogging issues with a Stage 1 KLX should be able to be fixed with some fueling adjustments. Another thing worth noting is that on the forums, the STP is known for creating a gradual torque delivery. So, removing it is supposed to give the bike a little more torque on the crack of the throttle

On the big bore it helped a lot, due to the fact that the big bore likes to breath. On a stock bore, it might help some throttle response a little bit. However, as el_juano pointed out, the secondary throttle plate can help out with intake velocity on a stock bike.

How cold is it there? I cancelled my insurance till next year because it's too cold to be riding here in NY.
It's usually in the low 40s and high 30s this time of year. This is really my first winter with the bike. Definitely need a better winter setup next year

You seem like you do a lot of pavement. Have you ever considered getting supermoto rims for the klx? I've been playing around with the idea of doing it to mine since I also do a lot of pavement.
After this video, supermoto moved up on my priority list! Lol I didn't think I would, but now I think I want to do it

@@TRAIL325 I was thinking of a tire like that or a big block tire like the TKC 80. I've heard good things about both of them in the wet. It's just hard to know how they'll be because most of the traction limited situations happen at sketchy times like this one lol
FYI that is a JIS 9 (Japanese Industrial Standard) not a Philips head. If you own a Japanese bike you need a set of these JIS screwdrivers and bits..
Now all you need to do is the Marcello mod and you will have the fastest 20 mpg EFI klx on the planet
MCM does not work with 331 & 351 KLXs. 250s and to a lesser extent 300s benefit big time from it.

i would blame the slide on the knobbies and little else , that is the exact reason I cringe at the thought of knobbies on pavement. so just remember knobbies bad on street good on dirt , and little else.

a salty rider could wheelie that thing all the way to california if he wanted , its you not the bike unable to wheelie --no offense intended at all, don't be too eager to wheelie, along with that skill comes plenty of road rash , pulled tendons and ligaments (if your lucky) and god knows what else .
