    I just got mine today. I am very happy with it so far. It sounds good under the earbuds, that came with it. Looking forward to doing a field test.

    Enjoyed your video. Thank you for sharing. I have the Tecsun 606 and the 390. Also have many other radios. I think your Tecsun 380 is a excellent radio. Main reason why I went with the 390 was the "Line-In" that allows you to connect an MP3 player to play podcasts. The 390 is superb. The 380 is also superb and the way to go If one wants the more compact size. The 606 is not much smaller and the keypad is something one will miss more than they think.

    I just ordered a new one today to replace my analog one. The analog dial one worked great until the tuner started acting funny and wouldn't tune in correctly. I live in a valley, surrounded by high hills. I never had trouble picking up stations on the analog. But I plan to take mine up on a hill and see what kind of reception I get. It'll be interesting.

    Yeah it takes 3 AA alkalines or rechargeables. It charges through mini USB. I like the radio. Disappointed with shortwave reception but then again I haven't used it during the "optimal" hours in the evening.

    I have been using the Tecsun PL-380 in London UK for some time now and I am very please (7/10) with it mainly for tuning into MW and SW frequncies connected to the long wire privided (SW only).
    Unfortunately this receiver is useless regarding the tuno into the Long Waves available in Europe and North Africa. The PL-380 is not sensitive enough in this band.
    I use instead the Sony ICF-SW7600GR receiver with good effect and also to tune into the SSB traffic.
    Good video Loansharky (!!!)

    Strange that it doesn't have up/down tuning step keys. I'll be getting this radio eventually. I've heard that the PL-310 is better on MW, but need to read more reviews. Really like the new ETM feature.

    I can't remember for sure, but I don't think so. It is a common usb mini or something. I have a few cables around that fit it. However I have not charged the batteries in the radio...

    That flat plate tuning knob would drive me bugfucking nuts insane. And seriously, all those buttons, and no up/down button to go between the easy tune found stations. Crazy.

    Thank you, i have the sunstech RP-DS800, i think is the same radio with other name. Great idea puting a wire in a tree as an antena, i will test it. I'm from europe and i can listen to many chinese broadcasts (in english also in spanish) also some islamic countries emisions in english, and lot of BBC emisions of many countries, but is difficult for me to find USA emisions, maybe too far... here it costs about 40 euro.

    How does it compare vs the PL-360, other than it has a digital keypad? The 360 has a removable upgradable ferrite antenna and looks smaller... but I'm wondering about the 6db attenuation on weak stations. Both seem to have the EazyTune

    On FM, have you heard this PL 380 v the Degan 1103 in regard to speaker quality of sound?
    Just wondering as I have the 1103 and whilst you can't expect miracles at this price I'm hearing the PL 380 is def better tonally on fm in a quiet enviroment..

      PL-380. Really cheap, usefull and best for trips. I have Degen De 1103 and Tescun PL 380, best portable radios in my option.

    The Tecsuns are useless on AM, perhaps close stations, but here in Ireland U.K AM stations are hardly audible at best.
    I have the 310ET, Geat SW Performance, useless AM, the 660 , great SW and Useless AM performance. I don't own a Pl-380 but I've no reason to believe it's better on AM
    The Degen DE1103 DSP runs rings around the Tecsuns for AM reception, so much so that many stations perfectly audible here in Ireland from the U.K on the De1103 can't be heard at all on the Tecsuns and the DE1103 has SSB.
    Another thing that bugs me is the muting while tuning, it's very irritating. And my favourite radio for tuning manually is the Pl-660 , it has non of that muting when tuning at all.
    The 310ET is good for scanning automatically though it does skip over some stations.

    Just got my PL-380. I noticed that the AM tuning on my unit stops at 1620 kHz but on the back it says that it does go to 1710 kHz. How do I get it to receive from 1620 to 1710?

      When the radio is off press button #3 where there is a 9/10 khz separation. Hold it until you see 10 kHz flash then release and turn on the radio to see the results.

  • @oliwek70
    @oliwek70 Před 7 lety

    Hello. I have just bought a PL-380. I'm living in Belgium. I can't find how to get LW mode. One push on MW/LW sets MW mode. A long push scans the MW frequencies. I tried to enter manually (from MW mode displayed) a frequency as 162 Khz (France Inter), it returns to the MW radio it was set to. If I enter 234Khz (Luxembourg) I get a Err on the display.
    What should I do to put this radio on LW frequencies ? (sorry to sound dumb)
    edit : on another video, I saw that the MW/LW button acts as a simple toggle between MW and LW. But it doesn't on my device. It just switches to MW if I was on SW or FM, but a second push does nothing... Is there something I don't see here ? Is there a mode where MW doesn't switch to LW for some reason unknown to me ?

    • @wolfmanradio
      @wolfmanradio Před 7 lety +2

      To activate the long wave (LW) feature on a Tecsun radio, press and hold the MW/LW button whilst the radio is turned off. A brief message will display on the radios screen confirming that the LW option has been unlocked. To disable the LW option, simply repeat the same process performed to active it.
