I,ve had mine for a few years and bought it solely for listening to F.M. while walking (works great). I also useit to capture distant A.M. stations using the various bandwidths... .AAbatteries are readily available and inexpensive to replace. That,s my take on the 380. Thanks for video!
I got this radio by Amazon, it works great ! I live near mountains and reception is dificultt , but I listen to my favorite radio stations quite easy. Greetings from México :)
Great overview. Just ordered on amazon for $45 U.S. DSP SI4734 chip from Silicone Labs ensures that the Tecsun PL-380 will be more than adequate for everyday use. Also, it weighs in at about 7 oz. or twice the weight of the C Crane CC Skywave which sells for twice a much. A little more weight, in this case, is probably a good thing for stability, speaker tone quality, build-quality, and overall functionality.
Nice review, thanks! Requiring 3 batteries not 2 is awkward but makes sense for the case of using NiMH rechargables which have a lower nominal voltage per cell of 1.2V. I have an Eton entry level handheld that uses 2AAA, and was disappointed that it would not power on after each of my NIMH cells dropped to 1.1V.
David Martin you are correct about the lower voltage per battery on rechargeables. I'm sure that is the reason for three batteries. Thanks for your comments and for watching.
About the only thing that you can do is connect a long wire to the antenna. If you do that it could overload the radio with too much signal. You will need to experiment with it. Good luck too you. ❤️📻
@@GuysIFinally glad it’s working much better for you. It also helps if you can get away from electrical noise like computers, cell phone chargers etc. have fun with that radio. 👍❤️📻
It a stand from a Nintendo Wii but you can get a radio stand from universal radio www.universal-radio.com/catalog/portable/5902.html thanks for watching. 👍❤️📻
Hi, I'm new to SW radio and just brought one of these and have no idea what I'm doing is there any chance of me getting some assistance from you in getting it up and running? Thanks
On shortwave bands remember that a frequency above 10 MHz are daylight frequencies and below 10MHz are best at night. I would use the radios ETM Easy Tuning Mode as stated on page 9 of the manual to find shortwave stations to listen to. I think this is the easiest way for a beginner to find statins. Good luck to you. ❤️📻
+kflynt2006 I don't have a CCrane Skywave but I have also read that the FM is better on the Tecsun. I think you would be happy with both but I think the Tecsun is a little cheaper. Good luck and thanks for watching.
I'm not sure how long the batteries will last but I can say that this radio is very good on batteries. I bet a set of batteries will last me a good six months. Remember you can use rechargeable or alkaline batteries in this radio. I use alkaline in mine.
Arkadi Zurabiani Sorry I think I miss read your question. to turn on LW function you need to turn off the radio then press and hold the MW/LW until the display reads LW/ON . Then power on the radio and push MW LW button to get to LW. Hope that helps.
+Arkadi ZurabianiThis radio set is useless for LW reception in London of European and North African stations. The only station audible in the UK is the BBC Radio 4 on 198 KHZ.Other than that it is a good radio for FM, AM, SSB reception in areas free from urban and household appliance.
Well I can think of two. The Tecsun PL 600 has SSB and is about $90 U.S. The CountyComm GP-5/SSB is about $80 U.S. Try universal radio You may reach this site by typing www.RFfun.com or www.universal-radio.com Good luck and enjoy your new radio.
I watched and liked this video year's ago. I purchased this TECSUN PL-380 back in 2015 and I still love it. Mine still looks and works like brand new.

I'm glad you like the radio too. I enjoy my radio at night with a nice camp fire. Greetings to you as well.
Where do you live in Mexico? I live in Queretaro and I am thinking to buy it. Thanks
Thank you. So much better to see the functions and how they work. I had great trouble with the manual 😊 Cheers.
No problem. I’m glad you got it all sorted out. Enjoy your radio. ❤️📻

Hi!
Is there any way to upgrade this radio, for longer range? How would one go about doing that?

Just got one yesterday, Why is there still static noise coming from the speaker after i hit the power off button... Such a waste of battery
Good video. What stand are you using for the radio?
Thanks! It’s a stand from a Nintendo Wii.
@@TheRadiogeek Thank you
What is that stand you use? Would love something like that for radios that don't have a flip-out stand.

I have had mine for two days and love it..unbelievable. Where did you get the stand? Good review.
Jeff Martin The stand is a Wii U Gamepad Stand cradle. You can get a stand made for small radios at universal-radio dot com.
Would you recommend the PL-380 over the PL-310? Thanks, Glen

Thank you very much from Israel
hello. how would you compare this to CCrane's Skywave? I read that Tecsun's 310et and 380 have better FM reception. What do you think?

Many thanks. I'm planning on getting one for a camping trip, which is why I asked. That's good to know!
Would love to know the location of this capture. Lots of adjacent stations!
