- New year, new goals! In 2024 it's my mission to run the fastest 1500/Mile possible. In this video, I take on some speedwork in disguise, with a mixed workout of hill sprints, 200m reps and threshold miles. Time to get in shape!

Sorry for the late upload on this one everyone! We had a few issues with the WiFi connection. Hope you enjoy the video! Please do let us know what you did/didn't like about the video so we can improve for the next one! Callum :)
That's the kind of videos I was hoping for!!! Thanks guys ✨
Glad you enjoyed it! We'll have at least 1 "workout video" each month for the forseeable :)
All the best for the coming year Callum, what a time to be alive..old enough to remember the Ovett, Coe, Cram days..with Wightman, Kerr and now you the good times are returning m8
Thanks Tim! Certainly does feel like a good era for British middle distance running.
Great video, and very nice to see you have Coros sponsoring. Hope to see some videos from South Africa, and best of wishes for a smashing 2024!
Thank you mate!
Another upload, another great video!
Thanks Trevor!
Great video I love your content keep it up it's great seeing how you train 👌
Thanks mate - glad you're enjoying!
So mental the strength in depth at 1500m! There are at least 6 people ive heard of who can run the qualifying time as a casual fan. If i was in charge i would send 3 to the world indoors and 3 olympics to keep everyone involved. Best of luck!
Yep! I think we could have 8 people at 3:33 in the UK… crazy 🤯
Glad to see this. Will be attempting this (much slower!) tomorrow.
Enjoy!
Funny to see my Kudos coming in during this video (together with so many others of course haha). Nice session!
Haha nice!
Happy New Year and have a great time in SA!
Cheers! Happy new year
Nice work, Fellow Cambs runner (Hunts AC) Good to see the use of a bridge as a hill, we don't have a lot round here 🤣 Building a plan using some of your sessions in the hope of chasing some PB's this year. Got my hopes on sub 44 10k and sub 20 5k this year.
Best of luck! Thanks for watching.
enjoyed this video fellas
Cheers!
Nice video! Thanks for producing this content! What camera(s) do you guys use? Thanks!
Message @1609.studios on IG!
I guess you have a pace 3. I've got a pace 2 with the arm band, and love them both. Good luck, and keep up these videos...
Both great bits of kit!
Let’s go Callum !
Enjoy!
Supershoes for hills❤
"Speed work in disguise" is one of Frank Shorters great memes
Gotta be done!
Wishing you a 3:53 mile this year !
Cheers mate!
Awesome, my one mile is for sure a goal this year. Want to get a 6 minute mile. I can do 0.5 mile in 3:00 so just need to be able to do two of those xD
Consistency is key! You'll get there eventually!
Would love to hear what running CZcams channels you watch/books/podcasts you consume to become more knowledgeable about the sport, also your mindset and tips on how to handle pain when running fast. Love the channel and sending best wishes for the Olympic dream (which might not be so dreamy the way you’ve be training 💪)
Cheers Joel! I watch pretty much everything under the sun… myself and Charlie love to see what other people are creating, and I’m particularly nerdy about the latest results / races / updates on the sport etc.
We both loved the early days of Tinman Elite and take a lot of inspiration from that. Check out the first videos they made if you haven’t already!
Great video mate 🤝🏻. I was curious, but do you follow a certain training schedule? I know some do a weekly schedule, but some do 9 or 10 day cycles
7 days in terms of mileage, but stimulus is on a longer scale… so we look more like 14 days to make sure I’m getting enough long threshold / VO2 / faster work etc
Charlie's comment after first quote of the day HAHAHAHA
😂😂
Very great vid really enjoyed it !
Was any of this filmed with that drone you got? Looking to get one and wanted to see how the video is on it
Shots are marked on screen if taken with the drone :)
Yes Callum lets have it. Be class to see you make the Olympics. Slightly tongue in cheek question, but have you ever considered leaving Cambridge so you can find some proper hills?
What I don’t have in hills I have in great training partners & a few nice pubs, so it’s not top of my list to move just yet 😂
@@the.distanceproject hahaha
Dont wanna show how much of a game of thrones nerd I am, but i think the quote you were thinking of was "The man who passes the sentence should swing the sword"
a Stark classic 🤝
Great session! Do you set up your workout on coros prior, or lap it as you go? 🙏
I lap it as I go, allows me more flexibility to make changes based on how I feel :)
Ahh I know that bridge and surroundings well from my lunchtime runs, as I work in one of the buildings in the CBC! Haha no one will care about this but me. But as a local I will be especially rooting for you, and best of luck on your continued training and ambitions!
Thanks for the support! 🫡
Hey can you explain please why you do the 200s/hills first when I find that most people would do 200s after their tempo? Just interested to know the reason behind it. Thanks! Loads of interesting info.
So I’m running threshold under fatigue. I have accumulated lactic from hills & 200’s - now I must teach my body how to clear it effectively from my legs during the threshold running :)
What’s your rationale to do the speed before the 2x mile? I generally do 2x mile to get some work in and tire out a bit, then hit shorter reps with mild fatigue.
Maybe you could talk about that in the next one!
What you said but the opposite way around - adding lactic to the legs from the hills/200s and then asking the body to handle it / turn it in to fuel on the threshold
Does it matter the distance on the hill repeats? Or is it just focusing on runnung hard up the hill for as long as the hill is? In order to get benefits must there be a specific distance? Thanks
There's different types of hill sessions... where I live/train the maximum length I can do is around 60s, so we plan sessions that cater for that. When I used to train in America, we would do up to 4 minute hill reps, because we has suitable terrain. Something is better than nothing!
@@the.distanceproject much appreciated and thanks for the reply. Training to go under 18 minutes and looking to add varity. Keep up the videos - very motivating and inspiring!
Which ASICS shoes were in the shot when you were getting ready to start?
They are the latest Gel-Kayano, great for easy running 👍🏼
@@the.distanceproject have you tried the superblast?
Where in SA? Pretoria or northwest pocthestroom
Potch 🫡
Are you racing at british indoor champs?
Should be!
How do you handle that many Strava notifications?
It's not as bad as you might think!
Which are these shoes?
Hoka Rocket X2
How fast are you doing the 30sec hill?? 70% effort, 80%??
Approx. 8/10 effort - essentially a good hard strong effort but one that is sustainable across 10 reps without being totally dead at the end.
@@the.distanceproject thank you. I'm training for a max effort 2 mile race for May. Should I do hill sprints to prepare, and also is 18km a long enough zone 2 run to best prepare for 2 mile race?? (Along with speed work)??
Is your coach the AIC coach or someone else?
Nope, I have no affiliation with AIC anymore -- my coach previously worked there for 6 months but doesn't anymore :)
Some South africa content
Trying to figure something out... we've chosen to save our 'budget' to make some race videos in Feb rather than the massive expense of getting Charlie to SA - so a little more difficult than usual!
Who is your coach?
Nick Aguila -- go back and watch the 'European Dreams' video if you want to hear from him.
@@the.distanceproject thanks - definitely will.
Hey, everyone! From runners of Russia 🇷🇺 with love🎉
Thanks for watching 🤝
Did you ever get your jacket back?
I didn’t 😂 hopefully someone is enjoying it out there!
Bastards lol
Good luck for the year ahead 🫡
Seeing you in Paris this summer then ?? 🫡
Haha the dream!

Very true

Threshold on tired legs :)
