1 month after y90 treatment. Unexpected INR Levels, and what is going on w my liver and bile ducts?!

  • It’s been 3 weeks since I had my y90 (yttrium 90) procedure. They did my first set of follow up scans a little early since I was up here for my second gen-cis chemotherapy treatment. I was also scheduled to get a port placed, but all good plans are prone to change.
I was able to get all my scans done, received my second chemo treatment, and woke up the next morning to go for my port placement. This is when I found out that my blood work from Monday came back with an INR level of 2.3. Normal is 0.9-1.1. So they redrew the level and it had jumped to 4.6. INR is a ratio of your blood clotting factors. At 4.6, I had a very real risk of bleeding out during the procedure. So they started to send me home.
The good and bad part about such a complicated medical history is that they want to know why and they want to fix it. Again, if I had been in a car accident, I could easily get a brain bleed or something. So they unexpectedly admitted me to the hospital side of Mayo. I ended up spending the night, I received platelets, fresh frozen plasma, and vitamin k shots. After my plasma my INR came back at 1.5 (this was around 1am this morning). They took blood again around 10, and INR came back at exactly 1.1. So, they were able to reverse the coagulation and get me back to normal.
I’ll be shooting another update as soon as I’m cleared for discharge. See you then!

Hoping for the best for ya. I am 90% sure I have bile duct cancer also. Doing a colonoscopy and a upper gi test to rule out colon and stomach cancer on tue. Im on week 3 of my first er visit that found the tumors on my liver. Returned to the er last weekend for pain from the swelling and pressure on my diaphragm that made it painful to breath. Already have my port in and am waiting on a few test and my DNA report. I can feel some pain all the time and I only hope the swelling does not increase to make it unbearable.

The scopes aren’t as bad as everyone makes them sound. The prep for them is hard just because it’s tiring not taking in food and not getting calories. “Eat” broth, or I drink a lot of Mountain Dew and you will feel full still. Please report back and let me know if they end up biopsying the tumors, that’s the best to for them to determine what it is.
Back before my first liver transplant, I had a constant pain in my right abdomen, that’s when they found the liver disease.
Don’t lose hope, there is a LOT they can do depending on the outcome. I happen to have the only type of bile duct cancer they won’t just do a transplant on. A lot of the cancers in the liver and bile ducts they’ll give you a transplant after a small course of treatment and it takes care of everything.

@@Operation_Reborn I had a biopsy allready and the scope is to eliminate stomach and colon cancer. Then bile will be the only one left.

There are healthy foods to eat to help repair the liver, or at least to keep working to its peak until one comes available for you for transplant
