That's so sad that even him getting transplant that they did not take. I think big part of that they make you wait to you get so sick. Before even considering putting you on a waiting list. I know a liver hard to come by but still. you would think the more healthier you are the more the liver well take. Rip in my friend sure you're in way better place than anyone here.

They want the transplant recipients to have the best chance of taking. In fact the list isn't even really a list. Every potential recipient is cross examined by a board to make sure that the organ goes to someone that not only needs the organ but also has the best chance of surviving the operation as well as living the longest life after the operation. That's why you see so many elderly that are simply ineligible for these transplants. Despite all that he was able to get approved for 4 transplants. This is pretty rare since your chances of surviving decreases significantly after each transplant.

Before adding you to the waiting list or just waiting to see if you can get help with a liver. It's really scary because we don't have insurance. Having hard time trying to get his disability approved he literally can't do anything I help with everything for him. It's also scary that even if you are lucky enough to get a transplant. It don't mean you're just fixed your body could reject it like this poor guy body did. We are gay so they won't do a living donor and his two sisters are in the early 60s which is close or is the cut off age for a living donor. So I just hope and pray that there is help for him.

Hope you are able to get a new liver. As a mother of a child who had a liver transplant at just 4 months old it is so heartbreaking to see someone suffer. To see your loved one in so much pain, suffering, infusions, bloodwork, transfusions, tapped numerous times, drain installed to help with ascites, tpn to fatten her up to make it to transplant. To go from not knowing if we were going to have to bury our child to having Hope's and dreams for her future is truly amazing. Best wishes to you and your family. Do not give up. I know the struggle is hard. My husband (Andrew) had cirrhosis of the liver due to alcoholism and hep C. He was very, very sick for a solid year. He was in and out of the hospital. One week in, one week out, one week in, one week out. He was on the liver transplant list, but unfortunately everytime he was hospitalized, they'd get him balanced, feeling better, then send him home and again his meld score would go down. Of course so would his placement on the transplant waiting list. He did finally get a liver transplant in May of 2004. However, because his meld score kept going up and down (my hubby was one strong guy) he was given the option of accepting a grade 2 liver. His doctor's strong advised it. We also knew it was his only chance. Andrew quickly recovered, but ended up in the hospital three times that summer with bile blockage & infection. Sadly in mid September it was determined that the transplant was failing. Basically the grade 2 liver did fail, but it also gave my husband an opportunity yo get healthy again. Andrew was immediately hospitalized and remained in the hospital until they had a very strong, viable liver. His 2nd transplant was November of 2004. Andrew finally got to go home shortly before Christmas. My strong, brave Andrew did finally pass away in April of 2018. We had so much more time together, to enjoy life, friends, family and of course each other. I'd always yell jim he was my hero, he never complained when faced with medical difficulties, he'd just deal and stay strong. I will forever be grateful too the two beautiful souls that lost their lives yet generously gifted their organs so my husband could live❣️❣️❣️ Also, my undying gratitude, love and prayers to their families & friends. Stay strong and positive, follow all the rules and restrictions (I know it's hard), it's worth it in the end. The sad truth is the fine line between being sick enough to get top position on the list or ending up too sick to be transplanted. In our experience all those who were going through the experience at the same time as us, all got there transplants. Take advantage of any transplant support groups offered through your hospital. It can be instrumental in helping both yourself and your support team understand the process, symptoms, warning signs, emotional support and the never ending unexpected issues along the way. Our support group as phenomenal. It was there that we met other families going through similar experiences. We got very close to about 6 family's and the support these relationships brought all of us was tremendous. The support, both Andrew and myself had during the difficult time waiting for his 2nd transplant was overwhelming. When Andrew had the transplant they spent the day with me, took me to church and sat with me at the hospital. It still brings me to tears all these years later. What we always said (and believed) to a waiting transplant patient was, "I know you're sick and scared, but the liver that is ment for you, will be there when you absolutely need it". We witnessed it time and time again. I'm sending you so much love and eons of prayers for strength, courage, healing, comfort and peace in your heart. I kissed a frog or two along life's journey, but after many prayers, I am loved and honored and blessed. Mark feels like same. He is disabled and so am I. I would be lost without him. I spent over a month in the hospital recovering from sepsis. I know how crappy it can be. And sometimes wondering if you'll make it through. I was hours from death when my wife made me go to the hospital. I'm not a Christian, so I don't do the prayer thing, but I send every possible good thought your way. I kissed a frog or two along life's journey, but after many prayers, I am loved and honored and blessed. Mark feels like same. He is disabled and so am I. I would be lost without him. This is our seventh year together. I just subbed to you. I know it is very hard and scary. Stay strong.

I spent over a month in the hospital recovering from sepsis. I know how crappy it can be. And sometimes wondering if you'll make it through. I was hours from death when my wife made me go to the hospital. I'm not a Christian, so I don't do the prayer thing, but I send every possible good thought your way. I hope you've recovered and you and your family are doing well.
