Clapped Out 1955 Chevy Gasser - Storage To Street

  • Every year that goes by, I do a little more work on my big block 1955 Chevy gasser. Why is it that your so motivated to work on a car the first day you bring it home? Then by day 2 or 3 "it's just another old car in the lot"
    A new set of carbs really brought this old girl to life! It's like a whole new car! Check out the new tune up and a few wide open throttle passes.
    This car is an absolute ripper!

    we didn't have to look over shoulder other then to see how many lengths we were putting on our opponent and just about any Chevy or Ford worth it's weight had a 4 speed . Thanks Dude you definitely got it going on

    Glad your givin' her some love! I had backordered Pro Trac's for my '55 for over 6 mos. at Coker and they kept pushing the date out. On a whim, I checked Speedway, and they had them in stock! Also, that carb bushing kit is a Mr. Gasket #6026 or, the full kit is #1512. I think even NAPA sells them. The other big help is Uncle Tony just re-did 2 tunnel ram carbs prior to PT with Slaghammer to help with better transitions through the circuits, helped lean out the typical rich dual carb tunnel ram setup and pick up some better mileage! I guess this was a tune up he used from Andy Wood at Unity Motorsports Garage. Check this one out, it should help your dual quad setup. As always, love the channel and the content. This was the car that helped me find your channel when I saw it on a tri five FB page pushing snow around! Keep up the great work and looking forward to some tire smoke soon! You should get a trailer hitch on your truck, just pull trailer out of the way, fix tire & back trailer goes. As for getting a car going after sitting over winter, you showed us that some maintenance might be required before heading out! Nice time spent with you both!

    • @rustyrodgarage2686

      Does the offset affect the driveshaft angles?or cause vibration?

    • @marksanders1942
      @marksanders1942 Před 2 lety +1

      @@rustyrodgarage2686 I did the axle swap...side to side ...this centers the chunk so it won’t hit the floor or the driveshaft rub. But even when you install one without the axle swap, there is no vibration issues. U joints are designed to run with some angle to them. If it is up and down or right and left, it does not matter. As long as it is not excessive like those jacked up 4 wheel drive trucks etc. anyway it is really one of the best modifications that I have done to my 57.

    • @marksanders1942
      @marksanders1942 Před 2 lety

      @@ajaxracing I understand that with the X frame. You can center the chunk by doing an axle swap...side to side or even add a second short axle to narrow the rear. It’s all easy to find on internet by searching 8.8 into TriFive.

  • @SweatyFatGuy
    @SweatyFatGuy Před 2 lety +1

    After 6 months of snow, and driving beater trucks and front drive rusty crapboxes, I am always more than ready to drag out one of the hotrods. Once they're out of the snow and running and driving, they become a choice, and option for the drive into town to get stuff. Its additives they are putting in gas that leaves the gel, white stuff, and causes rust.
    My 1050 Dominator fell victim to the additives, and a broken fiberglass hood (snow weight) that let water soak the carb. Now it likes to stick open at WOT, and I can't get it to stop doing it. Its ok, that engine is getting the tunnel ram.
    I learned way back in 1991 that driving an old, easily identified, not often seen vehicle means if you get a bit rowdy you will be easy to find. The Mustang next to me blended right in, but my old Firebird doesn't blend well at all.

    • @RustyZipper
      @RustyZipper Před 2 lety

      Like when a gray Kia Stinger passed me at 100+ once. I kept with him for a few miles with no sweat but then I remembered that he can just slow down and blend in with traffic. Now a race car themed Corvette might stick out 🤷‍♂️

    • @SweatyFatGuy
      @SweatyFatGuy Před 2 lety

      @@RustyZipper in 2010 or so while driving my economy long distance car (1998 Formula Firebird - 30mpg, 300hp, 13 second 1/4s) through Madison WI, had these kids in a crapbox riding next to me, flooring it, letting off, flooring it. etc. I ignored him, and her persisted. It was in a construction zone, and guess who was sitting in that zone behind a flashing sign...Johnny Law..
      A few years earlier driving the same car from my base in Charleston SC to San Antonio TX for a military thing, had some North Carolina kids in a Cavalier doing the same thing down I-10. All the way across Georgia to Louisiana. He would floor it, barely speeding up because I had the cruise on 70. Slow down, do a fly by, and he was annoying but amusing in that he thought he had something for my daily driver.
      He and his buddy floored it and inched away until I couldn't see their tail lights anymore... it took a while. Just before we crossed the big muddy, we see flashing lights ahead. Sure enough, both of those idiot kids were pulled over by state troopers. I was more concerned about getting there without using much gas than showing kids how fast my car is.
      In the 65 GTO its slightly different. I'll open it up a bit just for fun. It runs 11s. This kid in town with a turbo Focus was rodding it next to me, doing the BOV thing. I was going maybe 15mph in 1st, and stomped it, some smoke came off the tires, then it hooked a bit and I jumped a few car lengths ahead of him. He was trying, found out the hard way and I only went 5 over. Didn't even run 2nd out and he was ripping through the gears.
      I have lots of stories like that.. cocky kids thinking they can whup John Force with their turbo Neon, 305 Camaros that won't peel the skin off butterscotch pudding.. and more.
