  • On this episode of Make It Kustom, you'll hear the story behind this 1955 Chevy Belair 4 door, that I turned into a 2 door gasser! I'm always on the hunt for a good deal and wheeling and dealing is one of my favourite things to do! I break down all the parts I bought and sold to be able to build this project for under 5K and flip it for a profit!

Boy I'm getting old. I'm blown away by what tri fives are worth today. In the 60's, a stock 55 that looks like that could be had for a hundred to maybe 3 0r 4 depending on condition. I paid $75 for my red & white two door, 6 cyl 3 speed. Drove it 2 yrs & let it go for 50. Not a trace of rust. Lower mainland never used salt into freeway opened in 1974. My 41 ford, rust free. We used to laugh at the rust buckets that came out of the prairie or back east.

This is something that I used to do years (and years) ago when I lived in Richmond BC. The huge swap meet at Cloverdale was where I loved to go. But as I said, that was years ago and I'm now retired in Salmon Arm with a lots of tools still, but really no room to do much at all. Cars and parts as SO much more expensive these days. You're kinda living my life, only with cooler tooling 😁 The first car I ever built for someone else when I was 17, a 1957 tri 5. I did everything. Engine, trans, diff body & paint, interior & upholstery, wheels & tires etc. It took me the summer to do and I charged the guy $5,000. I made $1,000 on the deal and I though I was really in the money!

Oh hells yeah, that's awesome! Not all cars are enjoyment all the way through.. A few are, but not many! and that... is the real adventure!
AND I've never seen a 1955-57 Chevy owner with an unhappy expression while driving it. I borrowed my friends 55 Belair a few times and loved every second, as a kid, I would offer to drive it everywhere to do things for him, even drive it to the gas station to check the tire pressure and add fuel, just so I could drive it.
My first paid "mechanic" job was how I met the guy with the 55' - I was paid $5/hour by his dad who owned the shop to hand polish and wax the customer cars and then got to do his car... A little secret, I didn't do it for the money, it was ONLY for the cars, the cash was bonus! haha. I think I had racked up over 100 hours of after-school and summer hours before I even decided what I would spend my money on, I just liked... scratch that.. LOVED working on cars! And that shop is actually my channels namesake too.

with tyres would cost about three grand. The axle would cost about two grand, the rear end would cost at least two grand if it’s a nine inch. A decent running motor and trans, three to five grand. Nothing is cheap here.
