- My big block Chevy is on the stand and needed a little freshening. A new rear main seal and a 1 piece oil pan gasket where in order.
I blame the rest of this video on Uncle Tony. About a week ago he put a video showing the perfect engine paint job for a dollar. Turns out paint prep and primer were top of the list. So I watched the video a couple times and headed out on my own to make it happen. Honestly one of the best engine paint jobs I have ever done! Thanks @UncleTonysGarage !

Dude, that was surreal. It was like one of those experiences where you get snuffed and float up to the ceiling and watch yourself...only you're not dead, you're painting an engine.
The painting is easy, but the smoking takes decades of constant practice.
Bwaaaa Haaaaa haaaaaa ..... decades of constant practice! My next engine painting technique will also channel Uncle Tony - but without the smoke!
That was just funny....lol.
Now wait just on dag gone minute. "one of those experiences" ... I was wondering if his paint was rated for high heat applications. Oh, what is he smoking...er... um what are you smoking... love the show... rock n roll. ha ha
Hahaha! What's next, a wiped out cam or spun bearing?
Take a stroller parts add punch holes in the block side of it all the way around the seal and then apply your cell kickassanime punch and punch holes in the block side and then put your Silicone in and then push your gasket in and the center punch holes will hold the silicone and make it stop leaking
The Tony impression had me rolling. Exact right amount of hacking. 👍
Haha
While you have the engine out and before you put the intake back on, fill it with oil and turn the oil pump with a drill and see if it leaks before you stuff it in the car. Good luck
You awsome car builder i love watching you every day i learned alot grom YOU Sir and im 63 years old
Dan's attire gets progressively more Canadian throughout this video. love it.
The pony tail flip and Uncle Dani are what slayed me. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Haha
Dan, the Uncle Tony bit, was hilarious! I actually, laughed out loud!
Haha thanks buddy
Yep...perfect.Earl..no drips no runs no errors..as my buddy that had his body shop for 40 years...paint it..ship it..n I'm good with that..thanks
When you put the top main seal in be careful when you slide it in don’t shave any of the seal surface from the sharp edge of the block. Sometimes the seal comes with thin clear piece of plastic to use as a “ shoe horn “ to keep this from happening. Also put a thin coat RTV from the butting face of the seal across the bottom of the main cap to where the oil pan would meet. Had very good results doing this with that type of seal. Keep up the good work.
Snow piled up on the INSIDE of the garage entry door.......gotta love Canada.
I just can’t believe you don’t have more subs. Come on everyone pass the word around. Go DD Speed shop. 😎😎👍👋
Patience is of your virtue and letting those seals sit is a damn good idea! Your attitude is awesome! Keep your wife more involved in this and that'll be great she needs to know you care because it's DD's and not just you! I'm just saying! Take care both of you!
Redid my car trailer last fall. It’s on my channel. I ran it through the car wash and got all the loose rust off of it. Then I flapped wheeled all stuff that didn’t come off.Rolled down rust oleum primer let it bake two days in the Texas Sun. Then I topcoded it with rust oleum high-gloss and all the surfaces but the frame I used flat black on the frame. The Texas sun baked that stuff on!
I never saw UTG, but I watched him after the impression. Well done
Dan!! That was great! UT is probably laughing his ass off😂! Loved the ponytail. Man that BB looks great in red. See yo on the next one.😎
LMAO at your Uncle Tony impersonation-🤣😂🤣🤟🏻
Spot on Uncle Tony impression!!! 😂
Block zen. It’s real. From the time you crack the engine open to the moment it’s sitting on the stand . I have built more engines for myself and sold them just because someone wanted them more than I did but yeah, good homage to Tony . But the hair flip, lol. It was like watching the Black Widow . Hahahaa
My mentor once taught me that if you’re doing something and you sit down and be relaxed the job will get done better.
Hahaha, love the Uncle Tony impression! Great video!
Man that came out nice!!!
I channeled UTG and I took his advice on carb sizing and timing. Worked out great for me so I think the paint will work as well. I wish I knew these paints would be fine for engines years ago instead of buying into the "Engine Enamel" must do BS.
Oya. He know it all.
Uncle Danny just dying on the smoke 🤣👌
Uncle Tony impersonation was SPOT ON!! Haha!!
Putting the rear main seal in off center is key... Hope it works for ya brother!!
I’ve never brushed a block either. I was intrigued by UT doing that. Nice job, as usual. Laughing my ass off at the impersonation.
Yeah im hoping it'll work out.
🤣🤣🤣the uncle tony bit killed me 🤣🤣😂🤣😂
Don't want to spoil it for anybody, but the UTG skit at the end was the funniest shit.
That was a great live- stream motor pull last week. You and Danny have been doing a great job with all the DD Speed shop work.
Orange hat, Orange bibs and Orange motor--maybe this episode should be sponsored by Sunkist! 😁
Nice job channeling the gearhead monk, engine looks hot.
Like some Uncle Tony. Good job Dan.
Two dabs of sealer where the rear main seal halves touch. Four dabs , one at each of the intersections of the oil pan gasket and the timing cover and rear cap. Never a leak.
Ok so the impression of Uncle Tony, you really need to run a disclaimer.. I literally spit my coffee out when you lifted the coffee mug! Great video!!
Wow...didn't realize how large that motor was...until it's on a stand. I've seen the Chevy orange so many times, that it's nice to see a different colour. I painted my current Ford engine black with red on the timing cover, water pump and oil pan, red aluminum valve covers... and bare aluminum heads. Looks really nice. I like to create some contrast to get a nice looking engine. Painting isn't very hard at all, especially when planned beforehand.
Oya them big blocks are big haha
Love the UT impression. 🤣😂🤣
Looking good. Maybe change the freeze plugs while its out , since you live in the freeze zone climate.
you should put silicone at the 4 corners where the angle goes vertical on the oil pan gasket to block
Dan I enjoy watching you work man 👍👍👍🤘
You need a cigarette in one hand and a squirt bottle of gas in the other to complete your UTG brotherhood. 👍
Freaking hilarious!
Awesome video, UTG!
Awesome job, Dan! Keep up the good work!
I look away for one second and next thing I know UT is in Dan's garage painting an engine. What the... And then he lights a cigarette. oh... ha ha That's definitely Dan :D That was hilarious. Loved it.
Excellent job Danny great video
I like your Carolina shade tree breaker bar.
Like your commitment to your u tube even if your toes and fingers are frozen.like your videos, good job,! Jesse in cal,
Not the worst thing in the world to quit smoking !stay healthy
That was hilarious uncle Danny 🇨🇦🚭
16:33 uncle Tony guest star 🤣🤣🤣
Lmfao....love the plug for Uncle Tony..lol
The new meaning to a "Pampered" Big-Block Chevy!! This is close to body work with a chainsaw!! Lol!! Cheers!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Uncle Danny was priceless!!
I bold lots of Engine preparation is everything but uncle Tony did have a good idea
Looks pretty damn good!!
Yep. When I need a simple answer. Uncle Tonys Garage has it. Way Old school just the way I like it. I used to paint Rustolium primer on the Inside of my blocks. Oil runs smooth back into the oil pan and the motor ends up sealed. $1 paint job. Who knew?
Hes always got an answer
Smoking really Dan lol I quit back in 95 ! The motor looks amazing Dan good job
Nice job Danny
Good tips! I recently used a propane torch, to paint a 5.3L. Works great!
Nice! Glad to hear it.
that was cool really enjoyed that one
Engine looks great . They ponytail kicker had me 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Cool! Been a grip since I have seen a red block!
Now, do the brake drums red like they used to back in the day!😁
Haha old school cool
POR15 mas a great engine paint, painted mine about 8 years ago and it still looks like it was just done.
Now that you are starting to amass metal forming tools you can make a pan that will fit that stand
Looking good 👍👍🇨🇱
"Uncle Danny". Nice...
Hey it's DD Speed Shop!!!
Oh yea I have done that always used a little permotex and no leaks! Glad too see you r finally given the nova some attention..owned a 72 true SS!
That was cool I like uncle tony
I cracked up when you choked on that cigarette. Very funny.
Right on
Got the same drill brushes and scrub pads set they are 👍🏽 😎
It's amazing how weak spray on engine enamel has gotten. Back in the 80's we used VHT products, and you had to do it right the first time because that shit wasn't coming off. We switched to Rust-Oleum years ago and it's awesome, especially the implement paint.
Hahah love utg keep jamming hot dog !! Outta all the channels you definitely jam the hardest!
When you took the drag of that dart😂😂😂
Put sealant on four corners where block meets caps, then lay gasket down.
Awesome 👌
Looks great Dan/Uncle Tony!!!!
gotta love them felpro 1 piece gaskets..lol
Like the red better than orange, I have done the same color switch on some of my chevy engines and love it, better than having all orange everywhere. And most people that look at them say they love it .Chevrolet did use red on their 1956 v8 engines.
Yeah its nice to change it up every now and again.
Love it!
One piece oil pan gasket is the best way to go!
Hey Dan, I've always put the main seals in dry, only using sealant on the ends of the 2 pc. seal after you clock it. Had good luck that way, tough to do with the crank in the block though. Good luck, love your channel!
Yeah I dunno why I'm having such trouble haha
I like the hunting gear at the beginning! First I thought you was hunting for vrabbits but nope you was hunting for oil leaks! Great uncle Tony tip and demo👍👍
Hahaha
Hey Dan
Great video and fun to watch😁
I watched UTG's video after yours and you "nailed it."....haha😉
Hahaha
Hilarious spoof on UTG. Thanks
Holio fuck you caught me off guard with the Tony impression. Well done man
Haha that’s awesome!!!
Afternoon Dan, the red looks ok, Be safe, God Bless!!
It looks even sicker w the new paint!
The phony tail looks great
Hahahaha Uncle Tony was here!
Looks killer Tony
looks really good Uncle Dan
Dan, sometimes if you dont use threadlock on the flywheel bolts, depending on if the holes go all the way through the crank, but ive seen on newer, smaller engimes, oil will leak by the threads of the flywheel bolts and make a mess. I found this out on a Toyota i was changing a transmission on and it kept washing the clutch with oil, even though i replaced all of the seals related, multiple times lol, oil got past the threads and slung around everywhere and oiled down the clutch.. just a thought good luck with er, LOVE THE TRI 5 STUFF BUT I LOVE THE NOVA MORE!
paint job looks great mate, great video glad you found that oil leak
Very cool 👍 it would look awesome if you polish the intake and water pump
The UTG bit was funny.
dude it looks great
Great job Dan. I was skeptical about the red paint, as I have always liked the Chevy orange, but I have to admit, I really like the red. I'll be curious to see how well it holds up. If it holds up well, I too will be switching from my Chevy orange spray bombs. Thanks for the video
A friend of mine filler primed his 454 and painted it with body paint. Held up as long as he owned the car
😂 OMG. You do an awesome UT impression.
I been brush painting my motors with oil based paint for many years now. I usually have the paint in the shop anyways. works well. didn't know UT did it
