- The Beatles performing “Real Love.”
‘Real Love’ was released to coincide with Anthology 2. Geoff Wonfor and Kevin Godley, who was a member of 10cc and later became one of the UK’s leading pop-promo makers, directed the accompanying video.
Wonfor, the director of the Anthology documentary series, filmed the Beatles recording in the studio and Godley combined this with archive footage of the band, adding some animated sequences as well as film he shot in 1995. This clip appeared in the special features section of The Beatles Anthology boxed set when it was released on DVD on 2003.

We need Now and Then..............
Now, after hearing "Now and Then" (that I loved), I came here to say that Real Love is the best of this three songs.
Needs remastering to get that weird piano crosstalk removed and to have the vocals enhanced. It’s a brilliant song other than that.

I really hope that Peter Jackson's AI technology gets used to remaster previous Beatles tracks.

Whenever I hear Real Love it always gives me chills.

George's lead guitar work on this is just superb. For me it's what makes a competent Lennon demo into something special.
It's probably one of George's best performances I've heard
The Beatles are the best band ever.
We don't know that yet. But they were damned hard workers. Sober, disciplined, and concentrated, when it came to the track in the studio. Drug losers (who are all narcissists and generally lazy and self-obsessed) never seem to understand that.

I can't wait for a band better than the Beatles.
You got to give it to Paul McCartney, he has had some tragic deaths in this life of the people he loves -- first his mum, then his two best friends, John and George, then his beautiful wife Linda. And he is still out there rocking. Bless his good old soul.
And he himself passed in 1966.

John started the band; ended the band; reunited the band. Cosmic!
@John lennon ✔ John wanted to leave the band in 1968 after the White Album was released, and Ringo quit for two weeks during the recording of it. During "Let It Be", George quit the band for a few days after having a fight with Paul over how to play a guitar riff. Then after playing in Toronto with the Plastic Ono Band, John wanted to quit the band (again) and put the whole band on hiatus. Paul went off to record the "McCartney" album which was going to be released in competition with "Let It Be" and then he came out to the press that The Beatles had officially broken up. At the end of 1970, the band legally filed for dissolution.

Agree. This one hits the most, especially the chorus and the guitar
Massively under rated song. Easily part of the classic beatles canon. So rich, joyous, and poignant.
Completely agree. Lennon's stripped back demo is also brilliant. But very poignant and emotional the other 3 worked on this and really brought something to it.
Imagine the nostalgia Paul McCartney and Ringo must be feeling when watching this video

Always a reminder to be present and appreciate each day. You're in the good ol days right now! It took me a long time to understand and practice this.

This song was recorded: 15 years after John's death, 6 years before George's death, 26 years after their last recording in the studio, 25 years before now

That's very simple to answer. Life in general really was so much better back then. Even though we didn't have all the high tech goodies we have today, people everywhere treated each other much better and we didn't have nearly the amount of negative political garbage being forced down our throats like we do today.
Yeah really
With the release of Now and Then, Free as a bird and Real Love have a new meaning to me. It’s almost like the trilogy of songs needed each other in order for their real purpose to be fulfilled.
Rest in heaven John, George and Linda and god bless Olivia for her dedication and love to George.

George's guitar fills are terrific. The solo is perhaps his best ever, displaying why he is one of the top guitarists ever.
True, but the chord changes under that solo are vintage McCartney.
My thoughts excactly! The solo has the combination of the all feelings together doing this song, the sorrow, the love, just fantastic.
Why do I have different memory of George's guitar on this part? 0:58

It's such a sad video...
Am I the only one who thinks that if I had a biographical film about the beatles, this song should be in the final credits along with this video?
No
Yes
There kind of already was... in November 1995 the Beatles Anthology was shown as a three episode miniseries in the US. This song was first introduced to the public after the credits of episode 2.
Juli, I remember back in 1995 when they had a special TV show releasing Free as a Bird and Real Love. It was a really exciting event for me for sure.
Well, I aim to be a movie director when I'm older, so maybe... You never know...
Even though George felt he didn't have a lot of leeway for his lead guitar fills, I still think it really encapsulates that unique sound he had. In fact, all of their unique sounds combined. That's just the beauty of the Beatles.
This song still invokes strong emotions. These four guys spent their formative years together, and through the ups and downs, the highs and lows, became legends in the process and are forever connected. It's just so poignant that, after a sadly bitter end to their time together, and then losing one in the process, they came together to make magic again. "Free As a Bird" is a great great track, and I know they prefer that one, but for myself "Real Love" is one of the greatest Beatles records ever made. To hear the (then) modern day surviving members get together one more time, rekindling that magic, mixed in with an old track Lennon never got to finish; it's just beautiful.
George Harrison definitely was a guitar god. His work is sublime.
Well not at first. He was a poor soloist, but he improved tremendously. You can just hear the progression from bad player to legend throughout Beatles records. It's not often you get to hear someone improve to that scale in their works overtime.
@Torisu It’s not even about the “quality” of his playing... even his earliest solos are melodically spot-on, and make you feel wonderful. Harrison’s musicality was about expressing beauty. It’s that quality that has had such a huge influence on guitarists all over the world. When i went to Tokyo for the first time in the 90s, I listened to J-pop radio and noted that many of the guitar breaks sounded like George! His musical soul is what continues to captivate people, not how cleanly or how fast he could pick.
Yes I agree 👍💯
@@YamatoTorisu I think he was a great soloist at first, but inside the "mersey beat" style (which had some weird, quirk kind of solos)
There were no virtuosos in the Beatles, that wasn't the point, they complemented each other as musicians and songwriters. Greater than the sum of their parts.

*All* of The Beatles, living or dead, are *greater gods of rock*.
The half-life of The Beatles is approximately 39.25 years, so the next Beatle to die will do so in February of 2041. This is 100% accurate math with 0.0003332258332% accurate assumptions. I actually calculated the percentage of body mass that is (majorly) radioactive to see how accurate my results were. This looks encouraging.
Knuf Wons
That would predict that both of the living Beatles members would live well into their 90's. A bold prediction, and I'll hold you to it.
Knuf Wons formula used?
Considering the point Ringo officially joined the Beatles as the 'beginning' of the Beatles (about 1962, I forget the exact month) and the point George Harrison died as the decay of half the material (i.e. The Beatles), I was able to determine the half-life to be about 39.25 years. As for the accuracy, I looked up the percentage of the human body's mass which is composed of radioactive material. Turns out: not that much!
Knuf Wons
Two more bullets will exact the *perfect* Beatles reunion in heaven.
Seems like all we really were doing was waiting for your music guys.... Thanks for coming around and play for awhile...

But I always thought that this was due to my growing up with their music. Today I see that I'm wrong. Many young people from various countries and languages also like their music a lot. So this is a true nature phenomenon. They are great, the best.
If there's a definition of a perfect song, this is it.
Yes
It’s certainly the perfect way for The Beatles to go out.
The result of the edition is not the best, but it is by far the best composition of John, in my opinion. The demo tape is amazing.
@@ottocarson Hi, Otto, can you please elaborate on your comment?
@@Cosmo-Kramer I mean, if you listen to the demo tapes, John singing with the piano or the guitar, the atmosphere is unique, a bittersweet song. It’s actually real love, what he’s trying to transfer. The recording of The Beatles is faster, full of joy, too positive in my opinion. The voice of John was accelerated and the tempo is not at all according to the original demo. I think the version that is closest to John’s concept is the one performed by Regina Spektor. Just a piano and a calm voice expressing exactly what real love is. A perfect version, in my opinion.
*this is the ultimate tribute to John and George*
How is it a tibute to George when he was alive for this recording?
Jared Lindblad I meant the video
This is a tribute to their career.
This is a masterpiece. The Beatles are legends.
Together, all those components of their individuality. It must make them the greatest band ever.
Welcome to the end of The Complete Beatles Playlist. You have just listened to the Beatle's entire Career. Congrats.
😭😭😭
Literally this is the first song that I heard of the Beatles
George's solos and fills are so perfect, no wasted notes, gives the song that perfect edge.
in All You Need Is Love he wasted the final note of the solo
@@benja9348 I didn't understand your point
No wasted notes.. That's real
@@benja9348 Moron.
This solo is fucking perfect. It's one of his all time best.
Only a young beatle fan here. For some reason I put off listening to Real Love. Listened to Free as a bird years ago, and with Now and then coming out in the last month, I thought I'd finally go back and listen to real love. Ive been bawling my eyes out for about 10 minutes straight. The chorus is so beautiful. Listening to John Paul George and Ringo playing together hits me deep. Rest in peace John and George.
People like Beatles should live forever young
When Paul hugs George. And George hugs back. Real Love. That’s where it is. There together. They are real people.
Where is this hug!????
Lucy McCartney 3:20
@@elliearriaga3151 Thank you!!! How hard is this?!
3:19 I cried at the scene where Paul and George hugged.
Me too
Me 2
Me too
Me too
@@MrToddy31 Yes i was close. Very touching scene! Bless
Real Love is the best of the three songs.
They need to remaster this with the new technology
How on earth can I miss a band that quit before I was born and two guys that died before I was born?! It honestly doesn't make sense yet here we are! 😐
Lol ikr
Feel same way
The Beatles were my youth and I find what you say amazing.
@@dickon728 the world is really coming together right now over the beatles. Lol I was born in 2002 and I feel the same RIP John and George
Boy oh boy wait until you hear about Roman-Greek hymns.
Imagine what Paul may have said to George and Ringo then.
"John is gone, but he left these two demos. Let's finish them, together. Let them be the last songs of the Beatles, of us, four."
There's a bunch more, actually. Grow Old With Me, Now and Then, etc
(•ᴗ•)❤
It was George's idea to ask Yoko for any tapes.
Cringe
George Harrison was a good friend, to Ringo Starr Paul McCartney, and John Lennon. He did the right thing, to remember the good times, they all shared, and enjoyed, with John Lennon.
I love this song and especially George’s guitar solo’s thru-out ! By the time they did this in ‘95 his guitar playing had grown and gotten phenomenal. If only John had still been around, what they all could have done together.
I agree . George’s guitar playing on this was phenomenal ❤️
Oh what might’ve been…
Love is real. Real is love. Love is all you need.
Never for me to get to be loved. Only God and my pup. My cat Oscar.
I feel like this would fit really well as end-credits music for life
Beatie G I'm meddling with an idea of a Beatles film series. Like with a sequel of Nowhere boy about the Beatles in Hamburg and then the touring years,Studio years, the beatles reunion in the nineties and then ends with that night at the Grammy salute. This would be the song that ends the trilogy
This comment is so beautiful
This song would work perfectly for the ending sequence of a Beatles movie. Araceli's got the right idea.
