The Beatles - We Can Work It Out

- The Beatles performing “We Can Work It Out.”
"In "We Can Work It Out, Paul did the first half, I did the middle eight. But you've got Paul writing, 'We can work it out, we can work it out' - real optimistic, y'know, and me impatient, 'Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend'." (John Lennon)
'We Can Work It Out' became The Beatles' sixth single in a row to top the US charts. At the time, no other band had achieved such success. The track took over 11 hours to perfect - up to this point, that was the longest period The Beatles had spent in the studio on a single song.
At Twickenham Film Studios, a little over three weeks after the single was recorded, The Beatles made three separate promo films for 'We Can Work It Out'. Like all the other films shot that day, the medium was two-inch black and white videotape, a relatively new format for the time. Many TV stations, however, weren't set up for videotape, so 16mm copies were made for distribution worldwide.

Yes I agree awesome singers
Understatement of the century, but yes, they particularly do on this recording, it can never be anybody else, no matter how many people ever cover this in the future, there is a thing that these two had that you absolutely can never capture or match or surpass it, ever, it is perfectly vocally matched, and has an odd carousel quality to the song that is unhinged and brilliant.
No band has ever come close to magic of the Beatles , no band ever will.

Yes, they are amazing but I might argue Mamas and Papas, CSNY and Simon and Garfunkle were slightly better if one were analysing just the harmonies.
John and Paul were great, no doubt. But it is George's voice that is key to holding those harmonies tight and together.

The contrast between the verses and the middle eight is just so perfect.
Especially because they add Johns “harsher” voice during the middle eight and then go back to just Paul’s sweet, hopeful voice on the verse. They were master songwriters at such a young age.

You can categorize some of what they did as dumb and silly if you would like but the point is that it resonates with people across generations and across cultures and countries. They will likely always top the list of best bands that have existed or best writing collaboration (Lennon/McCartney).
@@junodonatus4906 : The Beatles were great no doubt, but in my view they were not the greatest of all time as many like to claim nor the best of their generation. They had tremendous songs no doubt. Some of the best were due to the genius wizardry of their sound engineers like Phil Spector (Yes; the psycho). Across the Universe and The Long and Winding Road come to mind. As far as their topping lists, I could care less. A lot of those lists are contrived by mainstream corporations and are nothing more than bias fluff designed to manipulate the masses by perpetuating a myth, which was the result of heavy advertising and propagandist praise to begin with. To me, the Rolling Stones were more influential on what rock became. There have been bands influenced by the Beatles no doubt, but most of them aren't nearly carbon copies and have only taken from The Beatles what suits them. Critics like to point out how The Stones early on took a Bealtes' song and made it their own as if that is the benchmark for concluding that the Beatles are superior. ¡ How laughable ! The Stones' brought rebellion to rock and roll and there was hardly anything pretentious about them (At their height). Momma's little Helper or 19th Nervous Breakdown were two tracks that could've easily been punk rock songs years before that genre even emerged. As far as experimentation goes, the best bands of the 60's in that regard were King Crimson and The Mothers of Invention.
@@Lunatic4Bizcas
There were more eighties bands than I care to count right now that were influenced by Led Zeppelin but ended up being cheap copies, like Kingdom Come or Whitesnake. And today, Greta Van Fleet. We can talk about the great songs of many bands but I think that overall greatness has to do with innovation, setting trends not copying them, and of course great songs. Even though art is a matter of taste I think it's safe to say that most people would put both Led Zeppelin and The Beatles above The Rolling Stones.
I'm going through a bout of nostalgia today and listening to all the songs of this era makes me sad to think that all the time that has passed away and Will never be back again

I was 15-16 when this came out. The Beatles were every teenager's life soundtrack. And our teen memories are entwined in those songs.
Really it’s the life track to so many millions that were at, or just a little younger than the Beatles. I wore out so many albums trying to understand better what they were possibly saying and thinking at that time. It is profoundly regrettable that they did not have enough time to work out the kinks between each of them to allow for a possible reunion of some sort. Quite amazing how Life can be. Paul singing a song that embraces living to the fullest since it's shortness, and almost 60 years later. He is still making music and living his life to the fullest. John, on the other hand, smiling, goofing and everything, probably thinking if he is going to make it long enough to be a grandpa...

Paul may have owned this one, but they ALL exported it's sound and harmony
Paul's phrasing - the way he groups his words to make the lyric flow - across the entire Beatles repertoire is simply wonderful, and this song is yet another fine example.

I love how this video catches John’s playful side. I sure do miss him and George.
60 years later, and I am still as floored as the first time I heard it.
Paul: is trying to do this song seriously
John Lennon’s objective: Make Paul laugh and rage quit of making the song.
I'd be honored if some Beatles fans would take a quick listen to my acoustic piano & vocal interpretations of PENNY LANE and BLACKBIRD on my YT channel in tribute to 2 of the many genius compositions written by Sir Paul McCartney. Live acoustic with no autotune or digital editing. Peace and RESPECT to the legends.
hahaha lennon always funny like that
John was The Impostor.

But in Help! John was being serious while the other 3 behind him weren’t
if most songwriters just had one song like this, they would die happy.
That is why they are still amazingly awesome, because they had so many songs like this!
my what a song
Ain’t that the truth.
Ringo and George looking like they're being held in an interrogation cell throughout these b/w promo vids, is utterly hilarious. Meanwhile, John and Paul are goofing it up no end. Wonderful!
I remember listening to this track on my Dansette player in 1965, when I was 12, at full volume. Here we are, nearly 60 years on (!), and I’m still listening to it but on You Tube through Bluetooth phones but still at full volume…
