- Ford Ranger fuel injector replacement procedure. This was done without removing any of the intake manifold or plenum, which saves quite a bit of time. I don't know if its the Ford factory approved method, but it got my rig back on the road again! This was a 1999 2.5 liter 4 cylinder truck, but the instructions should work on all four cylinder Rangers from 1995 through 2001

Thanks for the video, changed my number 3 injector with the help of my brother-in-law. It was tough but it can be done. Your video was a blessing, saved me $250.
Great vid, Its always nice to watch the job you about to tackle from the comfort of home before going outside and trying to figure it out.
Thank you for making this video!! Now to get my ranger running at its best!!
Thanks for posting this video. I have a 99 ranger with the same problem and I wanted to see if there was a video before I tackled this job. You saved me tons of trouble and money. Good job.
fantastic video with amazing camera angles and great instructions... im about to change the # 2 injector on my buddys ranger and decided to consult youtube and found this first rate video... good job
thanks helped a bunch. Same deal on 94' ranger; just did mine.
He was voted best reach around in high school
Thank you for your video. I hope the V6 2.9L is just as easy.
This is awesome sir! Thank you so much!
I'm just busting your chops man.
Thanks for the video
Perfecto mi amigo me diste la pauta que necesitaba para cambiar mis inyectores en una 97 2.3 Ranger saludos Oaxaca México 👋
Thanks a lot for the video! I'm in the same situation but, I did take it to the mechanic. After I replaced plugs, wires, vac lines, valve cover gasket, clean throttle body and MAF sensor funny thing is he didn't know what it was so after this and a couple other vids I'm going to replace all fuel injectors in one shot love my little 2.3l ranger
Good luck, I hope that fixes your problem!
did that fix it?
doing a tuneup on this truck is a nightmare as well. 8 spark plugs for a 4 banger and the intake blocks 3 of them
Anyone struggling with this: use long extensions with a single swivel near the end. Makes things MUCH easier
I did all 8 plugs and wires in a parking with nothing but two extensions and a swivel.
@@OtherDalfite and try REALLY hard not to drop your socket... UGH.
Good job! How did you know it was the injector? Did you try the plugs and wires first, or was it code specific to the injector from a scanner?
Thanks for posting this. How did you diagnose which injector is bad? I've been through the gambit of replacing all spark plugs and wires and ignition coils believing the overdue tune-up was the issue. The problem persists. If I can identify which injector is bad, I will know how or if to proceed. Oh, and for everyone's information, I have a 91 ranger. That is the same engine and layout. That stupid manifold, though....gah.
"That manifold is BEAUTIFUL and you know it!" *Shouting while crying* lol
A code reader is how i found mine
I have a 93 Explorer needing to get to the injectors as well any tips
were you using a GoPro to film this? or did you grow a third arm haha. Good vid though.
Good to know about the timing light trick...thanks.
Haha. I wasn't referring to the quality. That's a two handed job and i wondered how you filmed AND worked. That's what i meant by the third arm.
I think im having a similar issue on #1 cylinder.
would I be able to remove the fuel rail for replacement this way?
RIP my 2.3 it was a strong motor, Hello 3.0 ^.^
take one injector clip off at a time while its running if it doesnt change that injector is bad
My truck I think has this problem gonna try to fix it see if it works
i was told #3 is bad...do you know why they go bad?
Is it the same on a 2004 ranger
After going to two diff mechanics a spending booqoo $$$ found a good place they replaced a bad injector on my 3.0L 99 ranger and I was back on the road again 😁🇺🇸👀...
billy fatbowe Glad you got it fixed, and found a good mechanic too!
My 98 Ranger is beginning to sputter at approximately 40-50 mph and I don't know why. It had the check engine light and it read bank 1 - 171, bank 2 - 174. Replaced all 3 o2 sensors, and MAF. Spark plugs and wires are new as well. Check engine light has disappeared and hasn't returned, however the problem persists. I'm wondering, could it be a bad injector or is it sputtering due to a vacuum leak? It starts and has a rough idle, I'm beginning to worry, it only has 121,000 on it. 6 cyl 3.0 XLT.
p0171 and p0174 are lean codes. Since the trouble is on both banks, look for something that affects the entire engine. The first things that come to mind are fuel starvation from dirty filter, vacuum leak, or dying fuel pump.
just curious but on this truck i jut need to release the pressure with concern of getting air in the system correct?
Air getting in the fuel line is not an issue. The fuel system is pressurized pretty heavily and will exhaust any trapped air into the cylinder
Does this procedure work on the 2002 explorer as well?
Hi, the 2002 Explorer isn't the same engine so the procedure would be different.
so if i were to just replace all 4 ... remove the two bolts holding fuel rail, remove all injectors from engine, put new ones in, reinstall fuel rail and connectors?
Wondering the same thing. Trying it on my 2.3 stang
pretty much. I did this on my 2.3l turbo model. was not as hard as everyone is making it out to be saying “remove the intake manifold” I mean you can but it’s not necessary or hard to do. Theres worse jobs to perform on the 2.3L
i have a 97 explorer sport would it be the same process?
Yes
Is this something I would be able to do on a 2003 Ford Ranger Edge 3.0 L? Or would I need to go to a Mechanic?
+Jose Garcia did you ever find a solution to you problem? cause it's like you are from the past and now i have the exact truck and the exact problem.
Jose Garcia Q
Oh no fuel on your hand that might mess up your manicure😂
How bad was the misfire? How did you figure out it was the injectors and which one it was?
10 years later I am curious about it. For me I can feel the engine shake pretty bad when cold, then it smooths out after it starts to warm up
To change#2 ingentorist the same thing
MY 1990 IM TRYING TO RESTORE IT BUT BC ITS COSTING SO MUCH I PUT IT ON CRAIGSLIST, ITS THE SPRING SO NO ONES INTERESTED REALLY. INJECTORS 5 AND 6 ARE BAD. ALL HAVE BEEN TESTED AND COMPRESSED. SO IM JUST GONNA TRY TO REPLACE ALL 6 WITH SEALS AND GASKETS BUT AS I SEE THERE UNDER THE HEAD GEEZ LOL
Why was your check engine lights still on, i think you should’ve changed all four of them and the spark plugs, too. Anyways great video, though.
its a 99 ranger.... the check engine light is perpetually on. (also he probably just didn't clear the code)
dont forget to depressurize the feul
how?
EASY AND FUEL MANAGEMENT NEVER WORK TOGETHER WELL IN MY WORLD.
This is a terrible motor in terms of access to various bolts and stuff like that. Its just terrible.
+Denis Gavrilov Is it just me,,,or,,, does anyone else get nervous, watching the fidgety video close-ups!?!?!?! LOL!!!
Have you had it diagnosed by a mechanic? It sounds like you've spent more money on parts you didn't need than it would cost for diagnostics.
I'm not a mechanic.i depend only to GOD and to youtube
A ford 2000, a ford 2004? A ford 1997?????? This is terrible. You dont explain safety precautions of depressurizing fuel either wtf
LAZY!
