- The Los Angeles Lakers fell to the Houston Rockets in overtime after LeBron James passes up on a final shot that could have won the game for them in overtime. Ric Bucher joins First Things First and lays out why LeBron's decision to hand the game deciding shot over to Carmelo Anthony is exactly why the star isn't seen as a top scorer, and why he should have taken the shot himself.

I love the show! Been around since CC, and followed Nick on his Herd segments. However someone in production needs to sit Nick down. Seriously stop talking when it’s the other hosts FaceTime, and stop mumbling and interrupting. It’s really off putting and starting to taint the show.
You got that right!
I love Wildes embracing the chaos at the end
The "playing in Michaels image" point is a great one. Haven't heard him with that take before.
And it's true.
The argument from the MJ supporters isn't LeBron should be a better player it's LeBron should be a better version of MJ. And unless he plays MJ's style & does it better they'll never consider him better no matter what the numbers say.
@@SLICENSLASH all facts. I'm 30 so I'm on both sides. this is exactly the issue
I think the issue is dominance for the goat debate. Michael ramped up and took over the league until his second retirement. After he reached the top (in a league where they could slow raw talent with brute force) no one ate on his watch. Lebron has been the greatest player in the world for a long time, and even building his own teams wasn't able to hold off or even dominate the league. He didn't back to back to back. Yeah he is crazy durable and focused on his body in a scorers league, but he couldn't reign at the top. He could only climb there every few years.

Reggie Miller was never afraid to take the last shot, why did nick walk out?
Yeah and he missed them a lot. How many rings he win again? How many times did he not show up in big games? Some people are delusional man.
@@brandonmyers6 the discussion was clutch, not rings. Yeah he missed alot, just like James, but more often than not, he was never afraid to take the last shot.
@@onidtubes That's not being clutch. Being clutch is taking the last shot and MAKING it.
@@onidtubes so it’s not about clutch. It’s about who wants the shot. Exactly my point. Lebron took less and made more clutch shots and always shows up in big games. He’s more clutch than Reggie ever was
@@brandonmyers6 Did you see Reggie Miller pass the ball in moments like what Lebron did last night? Plus, lebron may have made a lot of baskets to tie or win the game, because he has had more attempts and oppurtunities than mj or kobe. Ben Simmons would be proud of LBJ
Ric briefly touched on it a little, but I don’t know why they weren’t talking about it more, Bron shot 35% on 26 shots last night. I think that played a big part in his decision to pass the ball.
Exactly he was cold and wasn’t confident in himself making it so he gave it up to a good shot

Why Nick keep bringing up Game7 in the Finals as a game winner? Miami was up when Bron made that shot. Big shot though.
Lebron fanboys gotta lie to make their arguments
he's delusional
Kinda splitting hairs here. Miami was up 2 when Bron hit his shot to make it a two possession game with like 26 seconds left, then he followed up with a steal and two clutch free throws to make it 6. Kyrie's shot broke a tie with GS but there were still some 55 seconds left in the game. Neither was technically a "game winner," but both were extremely high-pressure shots where a miss could easily cost you the game.
@@PunxJumpUp fact is, it was not a game winner no matter how you look at it. Nick shouting BS just to fit his narrative. Actually disappointed in the others for not calling him out on that.
@@youtuber_00786 so that means kyrie was not a game winner because they scored after that shot
Roc Bucher is probably the best NBA talker.. he's good.
Nick is like a toddler who can’t admit that Lebron is just scared sometimes. Scared to take the last shot, scared to go to the FT line, just scared. He points to “data” but there’s something called context and watching the actual games. Something I’m not sure he actually does tbh
It makes no sense idiot, why would he be scared in a meaningless rockets regular season game? You haters are so daft, there’s no pressure the Lakers are hopeless this year
Saying a player who dominated 19 plus years is disrespectful. Especially when it all comes down to playing styles. LeBron is more Magic ie a point forward so kicking out to a open teammate shouldn’t be issue!
Boobie, Mo, Korver, or whoever gets paid million upon millions of dollars to make a wide open shot. Jordan style is Jordan style. Bron style is Bron style. One shouldn’t be forced to play like another 🤷🏾♂️
So Nick is correct when some people talk as if MJ is God himself. Is it about the actual game played or idol worship
That was embarrassing Nick! 😂😂
all i heard was, womp, womp, womp, womp....womp
All I heard was lebron has the most game winners in history. Enough said
Lebron never had a game winning shot in a game 7 in the finals Nick‼️😂🤣

Funny part is Ric Bucher point is so valid when you hear the other analyst speaking they 100% argue pro/anti Lebron decision making.
Except, like Chris said, there is a difference between natural scorer and great scorer. LeBron also said he is not a natural scorer. He said he a great scorer.
Ric lambasted Nick about his wording, wrongly calling it a double negative while stumbling out the gate with his take. Shame how a relatively mediocre take (yes, mediocre because as Nick said, one play does not determine that) into a nonsensical one

It’s not about dominating like Jordan it’s about dominating in the riskiest moments. That’s in every sport. Tom Brady 2 minute less drills, baseball bottom of the 9th 2 outs bases loaded, etc…Are you capable of being great on command when your opponent is bringing their best. That’s why you want to see the best go head up. You can’t say you’re the best when you pass up moments to win it. They praise Jordan for passing to Kerr because they know Jordan has done it over and over and it was growth for him to trust his teammate over taking complete control. Lebron can defer the pressure to a teammate and gives you a “basketball play” excuse when we really he avoided risk. We’ve had this conversation too many times to say that its a good decision to pass it now. How many times has this been successful?Just take the risk.
Thank you!! 🤦🏾♂️
You articulated your point perfectly.
This is why nick said that last point though.. no defending lebron on that play, it was a clearly a horrible play by him.
But now you’re saying Jordan would’ve done this. He’s not Jordan and it is what it is. Come up big in the biggest moments. Literally the only time he’s never done that was in 2011. But now a random regular season game against a horrible team means he’s not clutch and never was throughout his career. The over reactions to it is comical. It’s not that it’s a good decision to pass, sometimes it’s really not but we hang on to every close game thag lebron has ever had and judge him. Tomorrow if he hits a game winning buzzer beat the bron fans are gonna go crazy saying he’s clutch and the Jordan stans are gonna say it was a lucky shot and he doesn’t do it enough. We’ve seen this play out for his whole career.
The real issue is the 24hr media cycle over analyzing every play that lebron does in attempt to either make him a hero or a villain and fans fall for it and make horrible debates that don’t make sense every time.
@@yeahaight1163 agreed…very rational point.
I only say I never say “Jordan wouldn’t of done this” because I understand the object of the game is not to play like Jordan but to be the best player you can be. Lebron is Lebron. I don’t knock passing it but it never feels like it’s just basketball. It always feel like he has an excuse ready for why he chose to avoid a risk.
@@yeahaight1163 In actuality, being clutch has very little to do with who scores the ball. It is about making the right decisions at the end of the game to result in a win for your team.
The reason people have these conversations regarding Lebron is exactly what Ric said. Nobody wants Boobie with the ball at the end of the game.
Sure if he is wide open for a shot make the pass, but quite often Lebron chooses to pass the ball to his teammates who aren't clutch and this is where the issue arises.
There is a reason Jordan/Kobe etc took those shots most of the time. They were the best player on the floor and had the ability to remain cool under pressure and make a shot. Also they were always willing to accept the outcome if it were negative. I once heard someone tell an MJ story where he said why would I worry about missing a shot I haven't even taken yet. That a what Lebron does. He worries about missing the shot at the end or missing the free throw and makes the pass. But if the player you pass to is less clutch than you are the right basketball play will more often than not give you the wrong basketball result. And for what it's worth, this was a pass to Melo who is a killer as well but now we have people including Nick saying it was the wrong play, but it was right to pass to George Hill under the basket between 2 defenders. Smh
Thank you Ric Bucher for speaking the truth! :)
Nick gotta stop acting like this the first, second or 20th time he's done this. We have had this topic multiple times. It's nothing new as LeBron himself has said he looks for the pass first.

I look at is MJ and Kobe missed plenty of shots but they never let it bored them on the next shot. MJ and Kobe can be 7-33 and would still wanting to have chance to take another shot. LeBron miss 1or2 shots its passing mode.
LeBron goes for 7-33 he would literally get crucified by the media…
While I do agree with you on what you've said, MJ and Kobe's teams probably aren't gonna win more often if you're shooting 7 for 33. Yeah sure it's about that mentality, but on the flip side, you can say that passing to get the better or best shot and helping get your teammates involved is also a winning mentality. If LeBron has an off night with his scoring, then passing is another way for him to get involved and win. All about perspective. The only reason why LeBron gets hammered all the time about his passing is because MJ who many consider the GOAT had that 'killer' I'm gonna shot this shot no matter what type of mentality and he wins 6 championships that's why his 'killer' mentality is the standard. If LeBron had won 7 rings with how he played throughout his career, pretty sure people would now Crown his passing first mentality as the standard in the GOAT debate. LeBron has the most game winning shots in history because he's played more games than anyone.... Stats lie sometimes, put it into context.....
But he also has a higher percentage as well… so he’s made more and taken more at a better clip
It was Ben Simmons esque bc he literally had easy left side layup or reverse. If he can drop 56 on the warriors then he can drive for a layup at the end of the game to get a win. It’s not an easy layup. But yes, it’s better than a pass to Melo on a short closeout.

The moment when lebron passed KD to rodney hood i knew he’ll never be the goat. Biggest possession of that finals and you don’t guard kd??
Nick can only dish it out, but he can’t take it
Lebron has always drove to the basket and kicked it out to the 3 at the end of the game. He’s 2nd all time but not even close to Jordan
Lmao can't wait to hear the "akshually, he made the best basketball play", while being wide open under the basket.
A year later and Bron still passing the ball to the corner
When the argument becomes too difficult Nic has to talk about 20 years ago… thought the topic was why did he pass the ball last night.
I love it Ric Bucher comes on and schools Nick
I don’t think i’ve ever heard a dude be constantly defensive about another dude as much as Nick is about Lebron, unless it was like their dad or their brother or something. It’s very weird lol
Nick sounded mad! I LOVE IT!
Nick is the only person in the panel who believes in what he says lol. Everyone knows he will not take that shot. Haha
Nick he has dished the ball out more than he has taken last shots.
The three other commentators gotta feel they debating with a fan when Nick talk about lebron
Man Lebron should've taken that layup but if Melo calls himself a shooter he needs to knock them down. LeBron passes up too many shots in the clutch for Carmelo to miss open shots.
He drove knowing he was gonna pass, he was gonna see the play drawn up to the end. Unfortunately!! SMH
Exactly. Regardless to how the defense reacted, his intention was to pass
He could have reversed or took it to the hoops straight. But opted to passed to melo….and Nick still Defending lebum…
He couldn’t take it anymore so much so that he ran away 😂 proving once again that Nick Wrong’s thin skin when it to comes to Bron 🏃🏾♂️🏃🏾♂️
Because it's an utterly ridiculous statement to try and argue Reggie Miller is more clutch than LeBron. When someone says something so stupid and obviously wrong, there's not much point in debating with them.
@@kyletucker3811 still doesn’t excuse LeBron’s not wanting any part of taking the last shot to seal a win. He’d rather make the right play and rely on someone else to hit the big shot.
@@kyletucker3811 lebron is number 2 behind MJ plain and simple
@@kyletucker3811 are you kidding? Shows how delusional you, Nick and all other lebron stans are. Miller is definitely more clutch than James.
@@invalidusername201 lebron is not a top 10 player all time. Kd better than lebron 💯
Nick really walked off, LMFAOOOOOOOOOOO
Nick can’t stand everyone believing Jordan is the best so badly that he has to bring it up every show🤦
having to always skip whatever Nick is saying is so tedious
This is for everyone saying “Lebron isn’t a pass-first player”….this is the definition of a pass-first player
Stupid play. He had no intention of taking that shot.
@@FatbobRell Him or Melo? Because Bron was definitely going for a layup
@@troygardner1410 lebron has made that reverse layup 1000s of times during his career. He had no intention of taking that shot
@@FatbobRell What are you trying to say his intentions were? You’re not really making any points
@@troygardner1410 comprehension problem? I clearly said “he had no intention of taking that shot”.
Slick Ric NAILED this take... LeBron had a very easy layup for an NBA player. I could make that shot, c'mon
Once they were not playing GS they went back to normal
Nick sorry no way is LeBron James more clutch than Jordan in the finals on the big stage
It's about the moments you take the shots! Not how many you hit
Three minutes left in a game, PG Ben Simmons passes up a dunk and passes to a teammate who gets fouled going to the basket...THREE MINUTES left...and gets blamed for the loss. End of regulation, tie game, LeGOAT literally has his shoulders, hand and ball at the rim, kicks it out to Melo for a 15 foot contested jumper...the Lakers are a bad team and lost because Westbrook only scored 30. Nick has entered the chat to get them cheeks clapped by Bron.
Oh wow... Nick was getting annihilated n walked off. Who does that remind you of? 🤔🤣
Nick is SOOO Biased... LeBron is NOT criticized for MISSING shots. We understand he has the most Clutch shots in nba history... He's criticized for NOT TAKING THEM!!!!!!
IF you're so good at those shots... WHY THE HECK DO YOU NOT TAKE THEM???!!!! That is EXACTLY the argument against him.
Nick Wright embarrassed himself and the show walking off set like that. Reggie Miller was an extraordinarily clutch shooter in his day and there’s nothing wrong with bringing him into the conversation as an example.
