I preordered the umbrella version as soon as it was available. I didn't like how vinegar syndrome just dropped their version outta nowhere. But I think I'm just gonna stick with my umbrella version.
I agree it's one of the best Nicholas Cage ever made has a great cast Venagar done a great job, it deserves the package it got I still have the dvd still had the receipt in the box 22.99 from media play 2001
@@roachman1412 holly cow you know about media play. I used to work for media play from 1997 to 2005. Talk about a time to be a physical media film lover. Bc media play had every movie 🎥 that you would want to buy. And if it was not available in store media play would order it for you
I purchased the VS release. I celebrate the entire Nicolas Cage catalog, and this is one that I’ve been waiting to hit HD here in the US for years. This is a great Cage film that’s hardly talked about. Definitely a hidden gem in his filmography. Now if we can get Bringing Out The Dead in HD. Hard to believe a Martin Scorsese film, especially one as good as that one, does not have an HD release.
That packaging is actually called a MediaBook. Always with a numbered edition J-card. And the custom molded flat black logo tray on the back is amazing.
💯 very much like Blood Simple and the Cohen brothers style. This Red Rock West film REALLY surprised me. A very good neo-noir ish film that as you say, if others like this then check out this film. I too have the VS release and am happy to have it. Nice comparison bother.
If I knew VS was gonna release it very shortly after Umbrella, I would have waited. Still very happy with the Umbrella transfer though. Great review as always, glad VS didn’t blow away Umbrellas, then I would be bummed.
Great film - real desert gothic black humour. I have the Plan B release and I waited about 15 years for it to get to blu now VS has it and it's annoying me so much because I would prefer the vs release. Are they all from the same scan?
It's pronounced "seen-EH-mAH-toh-grAHff" because if it was "grAHfee" or "grAH-FAY" there would be an accent on the last "e." Never seen this film (saw it A LOT on the shelves in video stores though) but I do want that VS edition. I'm debating whether to wait for the 4K or just double-dip.
Whoever told you to pronounce cinematography like that is either trolling or room temp IQ. Source: me. Between me and my father, we have over 40 years in post production. Not once have I heard it pronounced that way.
I like how you're putting the title page screen of the movie your reviewing in the background. It's a nice touch.
07:13 - The Girl was played by Joanne Whalley-Kilmer, Val Kilmer's then wife. She goes by Joanne Whalley nowadays.
I bought the VS edition. So far my best pickup for the year.
Gotta love Vinegar Syndrome, I had that one in my list for a while and after seeing your review I’m definitely buying for my B-Day
Lara Flynn Boyle was also in Baby's Day Out and Men In Black 2

VS transfer is better.
I picked up both copies..
I got the vinegar syndrome one
One of the best films from 1993 that nobody really talks about. And I picked up the red rock west bluray from Umbrella.

I know this is silly but I liked the blinking eye on the disc menu it's a neat label recognition

Coincidentally, Lara Flynn Boyle was in Men in Black 2. I have an Italian import of RRW. It's a bare bones release. I may upgrade to vs.
I’ve had this on DVD forever. Just watched it last night and it looks surprisingly great. So I don’t need to buy this.
I am pretty sure Umbrella licenses their releases from other labels for Aussie release
I picked up the unbrella release for it in store after I got it home I noticed it said region b so I was worried but it played
Agreed on boxed sets vs digibooks. I especially prefer the Vinegar Syndrome Ultra packaging with the magnetic clasp.
Christopher Coppola is Nicholas Cage's brother.

I think the VS transfer is far better than the Umbrella disc.

Umbrella is likely the same scan as Plan B, but Vinegar is a new 4K scan.

Hey what's going on with this channel? Ken hasn't uploaded anything in over a week, or issued any updates as far as ive seen on here.
I've had a few updates. Check my community tab. I shall return soon...
@@midlevelmedia I have no clue what a community tab is lol
@@metalgrinch Go to my actual channel home page and scroll right through the videos and lives until you see a tab called “community,” then click that

I know how to pronounce the regular word, but it’s supposedly different for the actual Vinegar Syndrome line
Do not pronounce the last e. Cinematograph is the way to pronounce it. It's French.
