I've had good accuracy with IMR-4350 and 140gr BT's. I'm only getting 2,800-2,900 fps though. I have a Tikka and have found temperature to be a big factor in a factory contour barrel. I stick to 3 round groups or spread my shots out longer if shooting 4 or 5 round groups. You might find out that higher velocity does not equate to accuracy with this caliber.

I can get 3,000 fps and great accuracy with 140 grain bullets out of a standard .270 Winchester. I’m not seeing the point of the WSM if it shoots the same bullets slower.

Some days are diamonds, some days are coal,,, looking fwd to seeing which way you go, and its good you went through the rifle to eliminate mechanical problems. I am a Nosler Partition lover, but if I could not get them I would shoot what you are shooting. Looking forward to seeing how you fix the problem...great video and thanks, God Bless

Run the 130 and drop the powder charges some, group's may tighten up,larger ain't always better...found that out over 30 year's of doing it..nosler may be using a 26 in bull barrel and it may not heat up as bad as a thinner barrel.I noticed in one group you hole for hole a couple shots and that peeked my interest of maybe your barrel is heating up enough to touch 🤷‍♂️

I have the ultra rare Winchester model 70 feather weight stainless 24 inch barrel. My rifle is exactly like this, except it has checkering and schnobiled for end. I've never seen another.
I've had excellent result with 63.1 grains of IMR 4064 with Sierra 140 grain HPBT I can easily get ½-3/4 inch groups @ 110 yards. I suggest putting some case lube on the base of your bullets. When you're seating your bullets, when it starts in the mouth of the case, get with it. Don't go slow when seating your bullets. It make the shoulder of the case flare out, if you go slow.
My velocity is 3166 fps. with Federal 215 M primers. Btw, Norma makes all WSM brass. I've been reloading almost 36 years.

Found a rebarreled Tikka. Called a buddy's dad, it's what he was looking for super long throat. Was built for 165 accubond. Hoping he kills elk this year. He's used 150 accubond and 130 swift Sirocco.

Can't find any brass either. Glad I squirreled away some. I would switch to some 140 gr Hornady interlocks. Cheap and very accurate out of my wsm before I re barreled it with a 1-8 twist. Trying to develop a load for it also. Good luck to you Joey. I hope you don't run into a problem child like Tom did with his 257 bob. Been looking forward to this was a little disappointed it didn't preform right out of the gate.

I have been reading the shooters bible guide to hunting rifles and ammunition. That author had wondered why factory loads were so variable and hand loads were so consistent. Simple answer. Factories load powder by volume, good hand loaders load by weight. So, pick a slug, pick a powder, make sure all the charge weights are +/- .1.

Great video, Joey. Keep working on it. I'll get a message to ya if I find any brass in stock anywhere, At my local shop, they have about 10 boxes of ammo, but every bit of it is the Winchester Deer Season with that tip on it. I'm supposed to help my brother-in-law with his Browning A-bolt in the same caliber, then re-load for him. No idea how it's gonna shoot since its ina factory taper 23 inch barrel and light weight at under 7 lb minus scope. But he found one in left hand and bought it. I may see, if he can't get to my range with me, if he'll let me take it out to boresight it and get it on paper. I'll eat my grits before I shoot it. :) Keep on working on your loads. Out of around 4 different loads and bullet weights, and 2 brands of factory ammo, I have only one, sub MOA 3 shot group to show for the 7X57 Featherweight. That was with H 414 powder and 45 gr Grand Slams. It's not shooting factory Federal 140 gr Power Shock, or PPU Rifle line 139 grain well at all except for one 1.80 inch group. The Power Shock was no better than the PPU for me. But 7X57 factory is also hard to find in variety. Keep on keeping on and good luck.

You can get much heavier bullets. And at four hundred yards the drop will be the same but the energy will be much higher. Even with slower muzzle velocity. I would run 150+ grains if your twist will stabilize it.

Do you weigh the heads ,I would batch mine to .2gr also I would not clean my bore for at least 250 rounds or unless it gets wet or damp ,modern powders dont need cleaning like old stuff ,I had the same problem with my 1943 No4 .303 scoped, but it was re barreled in 1956 and never fired as it was put in surplus, I would make up 10 rounds of different power charges and get it somewhere near ,I would go home and next visit to the range it was all over the place again ,this happened for quite a few times ,I was then talking to the range owner about this and he said "do you clean your rifle after shoot" I said "yes as I was trained to" he said "that's the problem ,as when you get home your then firing with a clean bore ,it need to have some fouling shots for it to settle down and some rifle bores he don't even clean for a few hundred shots unless they get wet or damp ,just clean the rest of the rifle" ,this went against the grain but it worked and even with my AR15 I could bench rest shoot and would get a 1 ragged hole at 100m ,I would also full length size and trim every case for every reload, also she did not like hot charges

3200 fps for the 140gr is standard. I have used the 140gr accubond at 3200 fps - shot a whitetail doe at 125yards in the neck, and let’s just say there was an inch of hide holding the two parts together.

I have a Model 70 Featherweight. I have tried many factory and hand loads at various weights. It is very accurate with 130 grain and 110 grain slugs. With 140 and 150 it is HORRIBLE. From my research it seems to come down to rate of twist of the barrel. It is setup for 130 grain max.

by eliminating your #2 goal of 3150fps and bring your velocity down to 2900-2950fps, I think you will be amazed at how tight those groups get. Why? Recoil. Just my opinion of course. Yeah, I understand your reasoning behind 3150 but is it really that important. Unless you actually shoot on ranges to 300/400 to collect real time data ballistics, you're just guessing anyway. Good luck with your project. Going to the range is always a good thing. Results - not so much.

Also, more powder is not better because if powder burns past the end of the barrel there is a secondary expansion and it throws off the bullet. Like firing a bullet and blowing off a handgrenade behind it. This is why heavy creedmoor is known as super super accurate. Because it has low torque, and at 2500 fps there is minimal powder burning past the end of the barrel. You don't really know what you're doing.
