    By position he is center but he plays as point-center (new term coined just for him)
    Core players are year or two younger so they have good chance to be at the top of NBA for 4-5 years.

      Another spooky thing about Jokic is that, despite winning 2 league MVPs before last season (should have won 3 in a row) and winning Finals MVP last year, he should be just starting to enter his prime this coming season. Jokic wasn't a top prospect or known around Europe, let alone the NBA. He played in the Serbian league in a smaller team too. His draft ranking was where he should of been.
      Jusuf Nurkic was starting over him at times in his early years in Denver. His willingness and ability to develop to become who is now as a player is why he's so underrated.

    Jokic is one of the greatest passers of all time which is a rarity - if not unique - for a center. For a great bit of contrast, I recommend watching a video of Shaquille O'Neal; he's probably already on your list but you could move it up a few spots to give you a bit of context of why Jokic surprised the league when he came in; he's basically the change-up to O'Neal's fastball.
    It's a little early to consider him GOAT material, but if he wins the championship this year, the conversation will probably start soon after. My guess so far: below Jordan and Lebron, but close to Curry.

    Jokic's greatest quality is that hes unsuspecting, meaning you look at him and he under estimate him. Before you know it he has a triple double. The funniest thing is, he doesn't even care about his stats. He won two mvp awards in a row(should have been 3) and when they asked what it meant to him he said it means nothing haha. Former teammate Isaiah Thomas said he recalls that Jokic would be on his phone playing like clash royale or something between halves and go put and give you 40 points 15 rebounds and 8+ assists.

    he's a center but can basically also play point guard, pretty much a point center. insane for a player of his height and size. he's the best passer in the league - one of the best of all time - and scores at will, but will always take an assist over a shot, so he's typically, during the regular season, not a 30 per night scorer like most superstars, which is why he's highly underrated in america (but he can drop 30, 40, even 50 when he wants to very easily, probably more easily than anyone.. he just very reluctantly does it). he's said in the past that scoring a bucket makes one person happy, but an assist makes two people happy. he's also the most unguardable player in the league - there's a video from jxmyhighroller out where he explains exactly why. also one of the most unselfish, humble, lowkey superstars ever, he doesn't have social media and does everything to stay out of the limelight, unlike most players in the league, which is why the league and media don't promote him nearly enough for the ability he has - and since his team is a small to medium market, playing in a timezone that doesn't work for most of the coastal fans from big cities, most nba fans haven't even seen him play until now, or aren't even watching now because the media hasn't made them care enough to lol. still, i'm proud to be serbian because of great sportspeople like him representing my country.
    he's probably already a top 20 player of all time for many people, solidified if he wins the championship now. he's 28.

His game is a blend of old-school big men, with his ability to rebound and incredible footwork in the post, mixed with the modern versatility of a curry-like guard evident in his passes and insane shooting splits. Tack on his all-time leading efficiency stats and you have a player who is big enough to see the entire floor and the thought-process to always make the right play. It is incredibly extremely rare for a big man to have the touch and vision that Jokic has. That's something you might not be immediately aware of as new fans of the sport. It's usually the shortest guys on the court who bring the ball up the floor each possession, facilitating the offense. Those guys are usually 6'0" to 6'4" or so. This is one of the things that makes guys like LeBron who is a 6'9" forward and Jokic, a 7 foot center, so special. They can do nearly everything in the game of basketball at an above average level where as your typical player specializes more towards a specific skillset for their position or role.
    It's also really hard for the defending big men on the other side to handle guys like Jokic. Growing up their entire lives they've almost never had to deal with defending another big man who can distribute the ball and is such a passing threat. Trying to control Jokic is completely outside the norm for them. Big men that are passing threats are just that rare.

    Yes he can do everything on the court. Everything. People say his weak spot is defence and while he can't guard smaller, faster players out on the perimeter, he is very, very smart with his defence. The play at 3:22 sums that up. He comes over to challenge the guy driving to the baseline and take away his shot but he also knows there's a guy to his right that the pass is going to go to and he steps into that lane as the pass is thrown. Genius.

The thing you find yourself saying about Jokic is: You could see this game on the court at any neighborhood YMCA in any city in America. The crazy thing is that it works at the NBA level. Partly it's that his fundamentals are so sound. This tends to be the case with European players (Luka Doncic is another excellent example). They know they don't have the sort of physicality to be throwing down highlight reel dunks on people, so they tend to get really well schooled in the basics of the game. You guys want to know where he is in the GOAT conversation? He's the next Jordan. His peak is going to last almost a decade because athleticism is not part of his game. As Stephen A. says, he can even jump up onto a curb. If he was an athlete like lebron or jordan he would already have multiple rings. He's just so smart that he works with what he's got and hes moves ahead of the other players/team. He's not really playing against the players, he's playing against their coach, and he's taking them to school.

  • @pyrotechnic96
    @pyrotechnic96 Před rokem +2

    Offensively he certainly is extremely versatile. He's able to fill pretty much every role on offense. He can score with efficiency from anywhere on the court, he can create for others, he is one of the best floor spacers, he's elite as either the ball handler or the roll man in the pick and roll. I'll say the one thing he isn't elite at offensively is dunking and putting pressure on the rim but he's a great scorer anyway so it's not very important. Defensively he's slow footed but has great size, positioning, and is a good rebounder. He's probably an average defender for his position in the NBA

    • @CavemanSynthesizer
      @CavemanSynthesizer Před rokem

      I'd say he's an above average defender, but he'll never be a great defender, because he just doesn't have the verticality to block a lot of shots, or the lateral speed to keep up with smaller players. This doesn't affect him as much on offense, but it can be a big negative on defense though he compensates pretty well.
      I would say the effort and timing of his game saving blocks alone demonstrate that his defense is above average.

    He is 28 years old Serbian guy.
    He is currently best player in the league and he will probably go down as one of if not the best big in history, it would be very hard for him to get in to GOAT conversation with Jordan and LeBron. He is good all around but he is not great defender, he is solid and probably above average defender but that's not where he shines as he is a bit slow. But his passing and shot making is world class as well as his offensive and defensive rebounding ability. And he is what is called a unicorn, a player that resembles no one who came before him, he is easily the best passing center basketball ever saw.

  • @beckayshaw6083
    @beckayshaw6083 Před rokem +2

    “Best player in the world” title is very fluid. Definitely a recency bias whenever the a new team ascends to the top i.e the nuggets right now. That being said Jokic is no question a top 5 player in the world right now and is playing the best basketball of his life. People hate the way he plays because he makes everything look so easy. He has no weakness to his game right now. Look into his postseason stats this year. Breaking every record in the book that matters.

  • @michaelbietsch2864
    @michaelbietsch2864 Před rokem +1

    Jokic is an anomaly, he has the savant mind of Zeljko Obradovic (a European coach who revolutionized offense in basketball, most people dont know that most offensive sets in the nba were created or inspired by him), the post footwork, fundamentals and stoic leadership of tim duncan, the shooting and clutchness of dirk, his passing/playmaking is a combo of kidd and bird, and he does it all in the body of old marc gasol. Also he's arguably the best rebounder in the league and has some of the best stamina, he averages running 2.64 miles per game (4.249 KM), which is the 6th most miles per game, he does that while weighing on average 78 pounds (35.38 kg) than anyone else in the top 10 for miles per game

    Some perspective on Jokic's passing: As is easy to see, Jokic is generally the biggest guy on the court. There are a lot of guys near his height, but almost none who are as tall and as thickly built. Jokic was 4th in the league in assists per game (passes leading directly to baskets), less than 1 per game behind the leader (9.8 to 10.7). Of the rest of the guys in the top 20, 17 of them were at least 5 inches shorter than Jokic.
    Jokic is slow and can't jump, which are usually excluding factors when talking about the best basketball players in the world, But his skill level is so insanely high that it doesn't matter one bit. He sees everything, almost always makes the best possible play, and uses his sheer bulk (280 lbs) to negate any athletic disadvantages he has. There have been skilled big guys in the past, but never anything like Jokic.

    NBA players, especially stars, are becoming harder and harder to pigeonhole into specific positions. Jokic is the epitome of this. He's as big as a center but can guard almost anyone on defense and can do everything on offense; shoot, dribble, drive, pass, screen, roll, etc.
    He's 28.

He and Giannis have a very similar skillset, and, while Giannis might be a better defender, Jokic is a much better shooter from distance, as well as being a better passer. That last part is pretty insane, because Giannis is an excelent passer and regularly puts up 10+ assist games, pretty rare for a power forward... Jokic is just that good.

He can do it all: score, pass, rebound but what makes him special is he doesn't go out on the floor with scoring in mind, he takes what the game gives him and does what the team needs to win. Sometimes its 40 points and sometimes its 20 with 12 assists and 15 rebounds. He can average a triple double every night if that was his goal, but he is a winner and extremely humble as well.

    Right now Jokic is the best on the planet. People have been realizing he’s probably a bit underrated defensively but no one would call him a great defender. There’s some great blocks in the video, but he will never be a contender for an all defense team whatsoever. He doesn’t have enough lateral quickness to do what great big defenders do. He’s like Steph Curry, he started out being a poor defender and gradually improved with effort and conditioning.
    It’s often hard to calculate defense like offense which is why debating players gets so hard. You have players like Jordan and Lebron who for many years in their prime were all time incredible defenders vs others like Bird and Magic who were in the subpar to ok defenders. Jokic is the latter. But on offense he’s God-tier.

    Jokic is arguably the greatest passer of all time, able to find angles others can't due to his size and creativity. Has the classic big man low post moves but also has great shooting touch. Defensively he's improved a lot, has great anticipation and positioning, quick strong hands, just lacks lateral quickness and verticality but being 7 foot automatically makes you a decent rim protector.
    Ranking him all time is a little pointless right now but I can see him easily in the top 10 when he retires.

      He's objectively not the greatest passer ever. That's not even debatable. The stats and the eye test don't back that up. He's easily the greatest passing BIG, but best overall? Absolutely not and I doubt he ever will hold that honor. He'll go down as one of the greats, but guys like Stockton, Magic, CP3, Nash, are in a tier that's incredibly difficult to reach. Even Big O, Kidd, and Bron. Those guys had creativity and quick-thinking passing IQ that equals or surpasses Jokic, while also being far more surgical, accurate, and less turnover-prone than Jokic is.
