Omg the eye contact thing is so real! When I moved from NYC to the w. Coast, it took me months B4 I got used to random ppl looking me in the eye and smiling

When I moved to the south from NYC, one of the hardest things to get used to was strangers saying hello to me. I've been here for a few years, and it still isn't completely normal to me.
I'm the opposite. I moved to Chicago from St. Louis. I was smiling at and nodding at people and they looked down and didn't make eye contact.
I'm from Mississippi and I moved to Ohio, and ppl always give funny looks when I smile and nod at them. Now I just look straight ahead. I honestly think it isolates us more.

I'm from Michigan and recently moved to NYC and I've had to fight the urge to help people who looked lost, not to like fit in but because I don't have any clue where anything is yet
Wait till you see Oregon sometime, random folks will just go "Oh shoot, your shoe's untied. Want me to take care of that for you?" Like T_T So sweet but I got it. Oregon is like the slightly younger sibling of Michigan in terms of niceness; being just as nice, but we're all not sure where the line is drawn with being helpful.

2 weeks out from open heart surgery (literally 3/21/24) and thought it'd be a good idea to watch this. You know, just to cheer up. BEST bad decision I've made recently! Laughter may be the best medicine, but you better be clear on the dosage! Now I'm SURE the wires holding my sternum together are strong... OUCH!!! Thanks for the laughs, keep up the good work.

I woke up from pretty stressful, really traumatic nightmares with resolve not to sleep anymore tonight because obviously my brain is doin too much.

tbh what helps me is praying for no dreams when I go to sleep cuz I steady have weird as$ dreams or nightmares.
Hey friend, I used to have nightmares and really bad sleep paralysis. Now I turn on CZcams stories or a comedy show or something to play continuously while I sleep. It helps a LOT. On more stressful days I already know whatever I’m obsessing about will manifest into a nightmare in my brain, I’ll download an audiobook and let it play so even when I wake up it’s kinda like a grounding thing. I hope this helps! Oh and counting pulls me right out of sleep paralysis. Normally I don’t even make it to 20!

Okay I grew up in NYC and it was not a good place for me. I've been in the Midwest for most of my adult life and I'm definitely the person who will walk someone to where they need to be
I had the opposite experience sorta. Nyc has been good to me, but I’ve heard it’s a lot safer than it was back in the 90s and prior.
