- The First Omen is a prequel to the 1976 horror classic "The Omen" which centers on a family who unknowingly adopt the spawn of satan. In this film, we're following an American nun - playing by the fantastic Nell Tiger Free - as she relocates to an orphanage in Rome to take her vows. While she is there she uncovers a dark conspiracy by the church to bring forth the antichrist. Directed by Arkasha Stevenson in her directorial debut, the 2024 horror movie is beautiful, crazy, and filled with disturbing moments. It's one of the best horror movies of the year. Have you seen this one yet? Let me know in the comments!

This movie was horrifying. Not cheap full of jump scares, or excessive gore. And you knew the plot immediately yet it was increasingly tense. Hard to watch but you can’t look away. They did so much within the limited range they had given this was a prequel. Unsettling.
The cinematography, the atmosphere, the score! It was all absolutely perfect and I've been to the cinema twice to see this and I almost never do that! Like you said, the movie really brought about physical reactions in me, which went beyond the typical horror movie jump scare! It was fantastic! Best movie of the year so far.
I'm going to see it for the third time on Thursday!
The way I literally also watched it for the second time at the cinema today. Somehow I was more unnerved and creeped out by the film on this second watch than I was when first watching it on Monday. Almost had a panic attack regarding one part of it as well within this second viewing lol
So visceral! The sound is really creeping like it's never silent with drafty buildings oh and the lead is just awesome. Apparently Arkasha whispered in her ear before a scene to "freak them the f out" and some of the crew had to walk out during filming. One of my new favorite horror films
Yes, the C-section scene was unnerving and scary. And IDK if you noticed when you were watching, but he didn't even bother to wear gloves when doing the C-section. I was already freaked out by the cutting, when he put his bare hands inside the incision to take out the baby... ugh!
OMG the no gloves bothered me too!
Yeah cos itd not the 20th century@@mandysmorgueofhorror
Well, since the children in the womb were devil's spawn, they could not die of infection or anything else (it's confirmed in the first movie when it's said Damien has never got sick); and they'd kill his mother anyway, afterwards, so...
The score and her acting were sooooo good 14:31 it made me soooo uncomfortable in the best ways possible. The social commentary was on fire! It made me want them to pick up in the 2020s
It’s my favourite of the year so far with Immaculate Late night for the devil and Stopmotion…the cinematography and music was awesome…but it was the transformative performance from Nell Tiger Free that stunned me…can’t wait to watch this again..great review and video 👌🎬🔥
Saw it yesterday and I can't stop thinking about it.
It definitely left a strong impression!
Everyone was expecting another Exorcist Believer, glad that it turned out the other way ! ❤ your video, making a top 10 list for this year will be a challenge 😱
I have watched dozens and dozens of reviews for this film, and yours is the best by far!! Thank you for the details and highlighting the memorable scenes. This video has made me a new subscriber to your channel 🖤 great work!
Ah thank you! I am glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for watching & subscribing 💜
This movie really took my surprise and the “not scary enough” reviews make no sense to me. Imo there’s some shocking and hard to look at scenes that are truly horrifying
I just feel like some people will never be satisfied, and I also get that everyone is scared by diff things. I am really affected by body horror and stuff happening to women - it’s like a nightmare scenario to me!
What is scary about the film is that it is not so far removed from the reality of women's life.
@@NewBlueCat exactly!!
It really depends on personal taste and what you found scary. To me there wasn't really that much of anything to be scared of. The body horror was alright but little bit forced just for the sake of being edgy and every other solid scene was ruined by cheap loudass jumpscare. And the story didn't really make any sense considering that is was supposed to be prequel. Very mid movie. But again everyone has a different taste.
I grew up watching the OMEN movies I was 8 years old when the first one came out in 1976.
Even though they change some of the story from the original one. I truly like it and planning on seeing it again just to take in all the visuals and the nostalgia from the 70s.
Your thoughts were hit the nail on the head. I saw the movie yesterday and as I mentioned before awesomely scary, tiger free was great and the first delivery scene was terrifying especially when she started laughing. Great acting through out
Excellent review of an EXCELLENT film!
Thank you!
Just got back from seeing this and completely agree with everything you said. It starts slowly but it’s very creepy with some great visuals. There were definitely some Rosemary’s Baby/Suspiria/Possession vibes to it - really enjoyed!
Ahh glad to hear you enjoyed it! It had some really unsettling visuals that are burned into my brain
Nell Tiger Free deserves all the damn awards for this movie
I'm really looking forward to seeing this film. I saw her entire performance in Servant and she is fantastic. 💜
Its turning out to be a very good year for movies , dune part two , and civil war which is according to reviews amazing !!, and now this movie appears to be really good as well , and as a great fan of the original first omen i will definitely give it a try at theaters. Originally i also didnt give 2 shxts about this movie but my mind has bern changed . Great review.
came across this video and I gotta say your review is great! you definitely get it! keep going I subbed ✌️
Thanks!
This movie was so good yet so disturbing, felt bad for the birth scene woman :(. I loved your review tho and you helped me undertand more about the prequal. New sub!!
Love this movie! Will probably look back on it as one of the best horror films of the decade. Was completely into the 1970s horror vibe, as that is my favorite decade for horror films.
Great review!
I saw in theater. Left of my side, till at the end no person, complete darkness. Freaking out while seeing this movie either
This sounds really interesting! I just yawned when I first heard about this being made, like really? Please make movies that aren't prequels or sequels or "the darkest part of the Conjuring Universe" or whatever, but hearing you talk about it - I'm intrigued! Not having control over my body, or just having things done to me I can't control is such a big fear for me, so I have a feeling this will be very effective, in a horrifying way.
I was the same way about the movie and was happily surprised! That’s how I feel too and why the movie was so effective and scary for me!
They need to give the remainder of the Exorcist trilogy to Arkasha Stevenson. Legacy movies CAN be done well if given to someone that competent.
Agreed!
What A Prequal Movie. Actress Nell Tiger Free's performance in this movie was amazing. The plot takes unexpected turns and keeps you in suspense throughout the movie. The ending was based on the 1976 classic film, The Omen, and was brilliantly executed. The BGM of the movie, which is a remake of the original, was also great. This movie reminded me of another classic horror movie, Rosemary's Baby. A prequel to The First Omen would be a fantastic film idea.
i just watched it and im glad a female director handled this movie, im invested to the lore and other creative directions this movie is going if theyre making like a trilogy or something
I watched this movie today. Ugh I am so damn obsessed with it!! And I’ve never seen the Omen. Will fix that asap!!
@@19film80 okay…?
This movie was creepy scary and awesome
Couldn't get to the cinema till this afternoon. Glad I did cause the manager said it's leaving Thursday due to extremely low ticket sales. We were the only two people in the auditorium.
Shame since I enjoyed it quite a bit.
Maybe Immaculate scratched the potential customers' itch for religious horror?
Much better than I expected.
Needs to be seen on the huge screen for sure.
That makes me sad. Yeah, I think Immaculate coming out a few weeks prior didn’t help
I'm very glad we got "The First Omen" as well, it's a great movie!
Richard Donner would be proud!
Omen 2 wasn't bad but in no way hold a candle to the original and i love first omen
The director shows a lot of promise..she did a lot with a story that was pretty thin. I would rate a 5/10.
The Omen is probably one of my favorite horror films and the 70s is my favorite decade of horror films . I love when horror is taken and presented seriously and the Omen is a masterpiece at that. I also enjoyed Damien Omen 2 in fact I usually watch them back to back. Omen 3 was ok but felt rushed and anti climatic but Sam Neill was great. Omen 4 isnt that great but watchable and I dont care for the omen remake really. You gave a great review of the first omen and thought it was a good film because it did remind me of 70s horror and Nell Tiger Free was brilliant and the rest of the cast was great also. Had a little problem with the discrepancy not in line with the original but not enough to male me dislike it. Omen 1 and 2 will always be my two favorites . The Damien series disreguarded Omen 2 which is why I didnt like it.
Can anyone explain why the nun killed herself?
Thanks for tossing a spoiler out there without warning
@@fartymcbutterpants7063 It's in the trailer

I really didn't care if I saw it or not, but now I feel like I have to see it.I loved the original.
You should definitely see it!
It’s a must see. It was wonderfully horrific
I am going to see it!!
Yay!
Nell tiger free makes this prequell better
Was Anjelica Carlita's mother? I didn't understand her role.
SAME! I found this video looking for info about Anjelica’s role. If anyone has input on this, please feel free to share!
Oh I love the Omen Films after seeing the first woman I went home and I watched the original as it carries straight on into that if you want to see the Omen movies they're all on Disney plus well Disney plus in the UK I don't know about your neck of the woods.
Check out the ‘Damien’ tv show.
Who was the first girl showed in the movie who is tied from the bed and whose face is covered? It was Margaret? Was she pregnant during the entire movie?
First woman was the old nun, I believe.
No, it was a "volunteer" to start the unions that would generated all those children leading finally to Margaret. And it is implied it might be Sister Silva, the "abbess". The moment Margaret was raped by the jackal/demon, was right after her night at the disco.
@@gojohngo106 Nah you see Sister Silvia (the old nun) in a picture with baby Margaret. She looked too old to have a child. It's implied that all the baby mommas died in childbirth.
@@kenw7287 That's an interesting point. I do agree though that Sister Silva does look too old. I just wish they made it more clear.
@@kenw7287 Oh, and the nun having the babies say she couldn't do it anymore?
10/10

I can't wait to see this!!!!!
I saw the Exorcist believer and I watched it again because the first time I didn't catch why Katherine died when her dad chose her. Then I figured out the devil did play a trick as in who was picked would belong to the devil or demon. Anyway I liked it more than the majority
I watched immaculate and I wasn't impressed..the first time I watched it I fell asleep
So I drank a few cups of coffee and watched it again
I didn't care for the " science " in it..genetics from Jesus's blood on the nail ( DNA) to create a super Jesus???
Anyway I know I'll like the first omen!!!!
Wait was there beautiful things here?
Damien not being born from a jackal and him having a twin sister is a real let down to fans of the original film.
@@19film80 Still...it doesn't respect the established continuity.
...unless you can be willing to "twist" out a bit the events and implications in the original movie, to make it smooth:
- Father Brennan was saying to Thorn "His mother was a jack--" so, a jackal. Well, you can interpret that in three ways, after what it's seen in this movie: 1) Margaret was one of devil's daughters, who possessed a jackal to rape her, so she might be seen as half a jackal. So, theoretically, she was a jackal indeed, even in human form; 2) Father Brennan, when speaking to Thorn, was kind of crazed by then and, to cut corners in explaining to the ambassador Damien's nature, he might've opted to go straight for the jackal thing (he was speaking only by Bible's quotes, by then); 3) Knowing Margaret's whereabouts and not wanting to spoil them to anyone to protect her, Brennan would've never mentioned her being still alive.
- Thorne and Jennings opened Maria Scianna's grave (and Scianna was just a fake persona for all the deformed children born from those blaspheme intercourses) and found a jackal's corpse in it. Nothing really confirmed, throughout that movie, that it necessarily was female corpse; the sept could've just decided to take the burned male jackal from their dungeon to the grave, to hide it.
It's a bit contrived, I know, but it's the only way we can see it.
@@nikfabbi87 Still, seeing a jackal give birth to Damien using CGI would have been a great scene. Mrs. Baylock should have been in it aswell. I also didn't like the twin sister being invented...it's just to make sequels when really they should have made all the good guys dying which makes the Omen franchise so great. What do you think!
I've watched so many negative reviews on this movie that your review is confusing to me. Most people say how boring this movie is. I think I'll just wait for streaming.
I saw it on Friday and left the movie with a huge smile. I legit haven’t been shook from a horror movie in awhile. The truly disturbing scenes don’t rely on cheap schemes. It’s one of my top movies of the year
Sounds political like it’s a metaphor for abortion and women’s rights to do what they want with their body. Hard pass on this movie for me. I’ll watch the original omen instead. It didn’t preach to me, it just scared me. Horror movies should be scary, not preachy.
Y’all really need to stop hyping these 3/5 star movies as being “the scariest of the year” and instead start labeling it “the most average of the year”. With how many scenes from the original this one recycled, it did not surpass. Or match it, for that matter.
I’ll do whatever I want lol
@@mandysmorgueofhorror by putting yourself out there “open” to criticism, as will I 💅🏼
Theres not much to explain, this is the most predictable most unoriginal film i seen i a while
I keep thinking are CZcams channels getting paid for giving crap reviews
Because most you lot give top reviews for terrible films
If anyone actually didn't notice the white missing in the nun's uniform then i guess you might enjoy
This kind of rubbish
Its a complete disrespect to the original in every way i can think of
I have to disagree .I didnt like it .Slow Boring not scary at all .The acting was good yes but otherwise a Bore fest .Nothing new .even copied the Omen in a few scenes ..The end was ok how it set up to the omen .I would just go see the last 15 mins of this one .Being a pillow sorry it was bad stay well
Sorry to hear you didn’t enjoy this one as much as I did, but thanks for sharing your thoughts!
@@mandysmorgueofhorror Your very welcome ...
