Guys kicked ass on this. This was a big fire that was deeply seated with exposure throughout. Tough tough fire. The bucket on tower 146 doused a lot of it. Hard to do a interior attack on a fire like this. Great hustle and FDNY professionalism as always. Great job boys and girls. Command was on top of the fire spot on.

Never had a "Mayday" before, so the situation must be pretty hard here. Again hats off to the bravery of the firemen doing an interior attack with the danger of the building collapsing on them!

@@Chrislimey38 Nope, but Center (dispatch/con) was contacted. One of the smaller Fire Departments we work, came but boy we got the business! Don't know why it did it, but someone got an A_S chewing. Not long after, we ended up I'm 35w N. About 40 miles from our station. You could hear the dispatchers, and by the time they asked us for our first rig, to cover, their PSA, we had already arrived there, and we were the ones who asked for three helicopters. By the time we got into their city, you could tell, it was a full out FUBAR. They had 4 small fire departments, and we kept going when we started heading South on 35w, getting on the freeway, it was a Sunday night, Fall, so everyone in the state goes North, or East to Wisconsin too see the Fall colors! We slid into the fast lane, and ended up on the furthest vehicle on the South side. Hopped out, B walked North, and I went to the Silver mini about 20' from the rig. Standing at what was supposed too be the left side door, that slides open, that was wide open. Being there was five guys from one of the Fire Departments, I asked what do we have? All five guys pointed at the female. I said move start getting the Hurst and Homtra tools we carry on all our rigs. They came back, and not a single one knew how to use it. By that time one of our other rigs pulls up. And we train constantly, and we have to be under 15 minutes. The woman was in the front passenger seat, no seatbelt, now she was between the first and 2nd row seats. Underneath the 2nd seat, with two complete snapped ankles, and as steal rod through her ankles, she was unconscious. So I tried getting them to focus, while me and one of our guys from the 2nd rig got line started, you could hear one of the medic helicopters about to land. I said as soon as they land, she will be the first one air lifted out. I decide since both lower legs were snapped off, and only tissue holding the two feet and ankles together, I threaded/pulled the rod out. And within seconds, we pulled her out as a load and go, and I told them to cut her pants, shirt, top undergarments off. But don't lose the two IV's. They were scared to cut her clothes off. Grrrrrr, they walked up just as we were finishing up with the back board. I did a primary, and gave them a quick 2ndary. We had got Oxygen on her, earlier. They took a quick BP, rand a strip, and loaded her onto their stretcher. I didn't know anything about her, other than she was a mom in the passenger front seat, they had hit, a broken down vehicle on the shoulder. Late Fall Sunday evening, and that spun the van into other traffic headed South. The other two helicopters landed, and carried out the injured. We got everything put back, and the other rigs, were all going to head South with walking wounded. We figured we'd take the husband, and two of the kids with us, and head to one of our Level one Trauma Centers, where the wide was being taken. About 5 months later, one of the first rigs there, received a letter. She wanted to thank them for saving her life. Yes, they reattached both feet, she ended up with a heart contusion, lacerated liver, and head trauma, and a few broken bones. Ribs and such, and why we kept going, it was the dispatchers voices! When we spoke with the guys who helped, we told them to come down, we'd teach them, and show them what to do! God we Love playing with the Hurst & homatra tools. I took a chance that day, would I do it again? Yep, we call it circling the drain! The only good thing, the accident happened so fast, the arteries sucked back when they were snapped off. Where the steal rod came from, we never had a clue. Why nobody did triage, that's a Great question! I know it sounds like it's all about me, but that's because I was writing in first person. As we were about to head South for the Level 1 trauma center, in our fairly new rig, only weeks old, with extra long body & extra head room, we couldn't get it up over 30mph. We pulled over, asked for mutual aid, for three patients. Two kids, backboarded & stable, and one father, th asdt felt guilty as hell. Was a little tired, when their van hit the parked vehicle. Just prayed his wife wouldn't remember that part. As far as the rig fire, we got the master shut off, that stopped it from burning the rig down.LOL think about it, we have assll kinds of training, yet when our rig starts smoking, we jump out? WTF? I'll have to tell you about a cardiac arrest. All I can say, why did we always get the crazy calls? Yet B and I, always ended up with them. Why Lord, why?

I bet Danny's Pizzeria sold a lot of Pizzas that day. I mean, probably best location direct on scene with a 5th alarm fire that takes a long time to put out. I'm sure a lot of firefighters got hungry after some time and the bystanders surely too.
On top comes that the RAC SPARE was directly in front of them too.

In my small town of 40k when a house is destroyed by fire and can't be repaired they tear it down and leave a vacant lot forever. If that building is demolished will someone replace it or will the land sit empty?
