      Why do they keep the nose against the dock? The pumps are doing their jobs keeping the water so strong! I love how the fire boast can pump so much water with power!
      Saw my answer in another comment!

      @KM-qx6nh Před 10 měsíci

      @@chuckengle1922 I’m a novice and don’t know squat, but I would imagine that since the nozzles exert so much pressure, they would have the effect of pushing the boat back out away from their stationing. Therefore, they put the nose against the shore/dock/whatever and keep the engines pushing the boat against the barrier so that the platform stays stationary and in correct position….. but I’m truly just guessing.

      @@kbtechandmedia Look into Fifi vessels used on offshore service/standby vessels for the oil field and LNG terminals. Most anchor handling tugs and work boats are fifi1, but the more dedicated standby vessels have Fifi 2 or 3 and the requirements are immense. Fifi 2 and 3 require 3-4 monitors and have to supply 31,000 and 42,200gpm, respectively. As well as shoot about 110meters vertically to hit derricks. Simply crazy stuff. They also require 3-4 individual pumps, and like you said usually ran from 1000 hp diesels, or if using electric motors they need auxillary generators, and the emergency generator has to run at least half the pumps for DNV OSV rules

    1987 San Francisco considers getting rid of fire boats. 1989, Loma Prieta Earthquake, destroys all water mains in the Marina district and it is on fire. The Last SFFD fire boat, the Phoenix, starts to pump water out of the bay to an auxiliary hydrant system which allows the Fire Department and average citizens to save the Marina District.

      Species1571 probably because the cannons are so powerful, it would have been too dangerous for it to do much else. It would have flattened the building and more than likely the others around it.

      Looks like an old 19th century factory . I was trying to see if I could spot a name or sign that might indicate the company that occupied it andnits history Rest assured it has a long long history

    If they only got the water on the fire, the best clean walls on a burned out building. Still nice video of the boats.

      They can't take water out of the river, it's dirty and the fish will clog up the pump. Also the EPA would be all over them. Lol

    I am wondering that despite the thousand flashlights not a single truck has a light pole and the scene is so dark. Wouldn't it make sense to have more light to see what you do instead of flashlights on the trucks everywhere?
