    As we used to say in my firefighting days " enough fire for everyone ". Great audio and video. Unbelievable how many multiple alarms FDNY has had so far this year.

    When I was the safety officer for my department I would watch the faces of the men and officers for frustration, This fire even had the operations chief shaking his head. My main concern was as the amount of members increases and the desire to put the fire out increases that's the time for worry. members crowding the stairs means a traffic jam at the off ramps for the guys inside.....

    Wind took this fire from a 10-75 to a 5 alarm. Thanks Sky.

    I was a mile down wind and the smoke woke me out of a dead sleep. I thought it was MY building. Not until I searched my building, went out to check the adjacent homes, and walked the block upwind -- did I realize the fire was distant. The smoke covered my entire street a mile away from the source.....Folks reported smelling the smoke 3 miles away.

    Great video, Skyler. That was one smoky, hot mess and could have been a lot worse. Stay safe out there.

    I live three blocks from where the fire took place. The smoke was overwhelming. I watched this happen and it was a scary sight. I applaud the speedy response from the FDNY.

    Bad-Asses, every one. Skyler Fire, you're a Pro. Subscribed. dugie, I'm in Colorado, it's been very dry. 5 major fronts of attack, none defended. Asymetrical siege.

    Fantastic coverage, if this happened in the UK (London), the cordon put in by the police would have made it impossible for you get close up shots like you can in NY.........Thank you.

    I ALWAYS hated those log jams at the narrow doorways. Seen too many injuries happen because of it. Not safe when you're tripping over fellow firefighters, hoses etc. not to mention the extra risk of a possible smoke explosion with no quick egress. Thank God no serious injuries here. Stubborn fire for sure.

    • @hosedragger-2045
      @hosedragger-2045 Před rokem +2

      That's why my personal plan in the event of needing rapid egress and the doorway being jammed with people is to bail out the nearest window. Be that break the thing with a tool and hop out, or full speed running start jump through it

    Multiple alarm fires are non-stop sometimes multiple multiples daily!

  • @Greylocks

    A regular house fire is one thing, at least it's fairly contained. But a building? That's a different nightmare.
    Because of their age some of those have lots of wood, much older standards of construction, and fire prevention measures that are iffy at best.
    Then add the height, narrow streets and alleys, and connecting walls. It all adds up.

    An extremely dangerous Wind- Driven fire. According to NIST, ot is safest and most effective to attack them with the wind at your back. Stay safe Brothers!

    That is one ugly looking fire......... Interesting behavior of the firemen when the fire emerged out of the doorway on the house on the right... they were very eager to go after it... I think that is what makes FDNY rank above all others.........
