I had a 57 Johnson with electric start and remote throttle on a 1965 Larson 16 ft speedboat. That 35 Performed more like 50 Plus HP...what a great motor! It kicked that boat around very nicely on the St. Croix river back in the 80s. It was similar in performance to my Bayliner 17 ft with a Mercury 70 HP.

Just bought 1957 RJE-19 35hp Johnson, boy is it rough looking, but I was able to fire it up. definitely needs impeller, wires, fuel lines, carb rebuild, just everything more then likely

The 18 HP's Big Brother! In fact, the most powerful motor OMC built until the Fat Fifty came out the following year. In '57 you had your choice of 3, 5.5, 7.5, 10, 18, or 35 HP. They dropped the 7.5 soon after. My father had a brand new one. Evinrude called it the "Fleetwin" and I think it was in their model lineup for a few years before Johnson dealers had it. Not really much of a need for it - if 5.5 wasn't enough why not go to 10Hp and the price jump and weight difference were probably minimal.

Nice motor. I love 57 Johnsons. What size is your boat? Any idea how fast you were running? Thanks for the video.
