@scottstenlund4431 except all previous mgmt and coaches gone. So whatever is up might be because he doesn't believe Conroy can get the job done. Maybe he wants too much $? He's on the last year of his deal. Just cause you have cap doom doesn't mean you should overpay. The dude is 34 and paying him anything more than say 4 years and 16 million would be a bad move. Even that is risky. He's 34 and had the best year of his career. Let him get paid elsewhere if he wants a penny more. He is going to be a rental on any team he goes to. This is so much hindsight applied here. Johnny had two pretty bad seasons by the standards of a superstar. Did you want Tre to give him a huge offer as a reward? Look at the Leafs and their cap management when the GM just hands out massive contracts willy nilly

Kinda lost in this though is that Johnny's status as a legit super star league is not certain. He has had 2 seasons scoring at a point per game or higher (and one of those seasons EVERY player on his team was going off at the same time). He is 29 now and last season was not encouraging. 10M a year would rapidly look like an overpayment if, as is probably likely, Johnny's best seasons are behind him. he is very good, but hasn't done enough to prove he isn't a 2nd tier star that deserves money in that 7-8M range..for now.

But he doesn’t have an edge in his game like Chucky does I know they put up similar numbers in the season prior. The new system might do Hubie good but he never was a good fit in Sutters system because he emphasized the forecheck and defense more than pure offense . Tyler Toffoli is a great player but if he’s your best scorer that’s an issue especially if Hubie isn’t seeing the apples come like he did in Florida with Barkov. I get a new environment and more spotlight are factors but Hubie may have a hard time in the coming years especially when he doesn’t have those solid scorers to play on a line with.

Another is too conservative, doesn't make proactive moves, and is more reliant on loyalty and friendship than winning. Another GM who doesn't want to have his team go through a much-needed rebuild. And then we have Treliving, who could have kept Tkachuk and Gaudreau as Flames long-term if he had simply used his head. I don't get it. Listen, I'm a Flames fan. Have been since I was a kid. But my god, I have no hope for Kadri or Huberdeau. They peaked. Same with Markstrom. I would say rebuild, but you're stuck with Huberdeau for literally a decade. Calgary will be the next team to re-locate if he doesn't CONSISTENTLY put up 100+ points until he can't no more. Otherwise? Hell, if the Flames are done in Calgary, keep the team in Canada and send them to Quebec or Hamilton.

JG's mom's statements don't make sense chronologically. First, she states that she thought up to the 12th hour he would remain in Calgary, but then discusses the contract offer the previously year. JG was leaving Calgary all along. Period. Trying to sell the narrative that it was the team's fault is crap. Just accept the fact that the decision was made by JG's wife.

Thank you throwing light on this. It never felt right somehow. I think Flyer fans are more pissed off than anyone. I believe they wanted him, but the east is a tough go. Especially Philly and New York City. Columbus is not ready to win , they are building so that won’t piss off Calgary fans. It was a safe destination. Which is sad because it may be the whole length of his deal to get a run in the playoffs. He’s the kinda player
to root for even he is not on your club. 🏒🍸

Hubie is a dud. He'll never be anything he was with the Panthers. I went to a game where I sat where the FLames were warming up. While most of the Flames were skating hard Hubie coasted like he was at a family skate. No urgency, no sense of purpose, just floating around touching th e puck the odd time. Sure enough the game starts and he plays the same way. What a waste of 10 mil a year

  • @mpreuss2

Anyone who says that thing would have been better if something different had happened needs to understand that each decision that is made has a ripple effect and that everything in the universe changes from that moment. What if Calgary kept both players but then something even worse than losing the two guys to FA and trade happens? Are you really ready to face that reality? If not then stop living in the past, accept what happened and try to make changes to make the situation better. Saying things like, “It’s UNFORGIVABLE” is a poor mindset and one that doesn’t encourage learning from mistakes. It’s okay to be critical or to critique for improvement but this unforgiving mindset will only lead towards worse emotions.
I used to really like this channel but lately the content has become negative and I just don’t feel it any more.

As for lindholm, get trade him, he obviously doesn't want to be here. Time to clean house. Hopefully our new GM isn't treliving 2.0 but it's looking like it

Sorry, man. Huberdeau is 30 and Kadri is 32. They're officially in their declining years and will probably never put up the numbers they once did. As much as I hate Tkachuk, you guys were absolutely fleeced on that trade, and it's going to hurt the Flames for many years to come.

@@clandon9624 Hate to break it to you, it's a pretty widely known fact that a vast majority of NHL players start to decline by the time they hit 30. Since both of these players have literally seen a decline in their stats last season, it's a pretty obvious sign that I'm right. If they plan to have these 2 guys as the core of the team for the foreseeable future, the Flames aren't going to be a contender for quite a while.
