He starts his joke laughing at fat people and right around the time people would get offended he brings up poverty around the world, then he mentions India and on top of that the line “makes me want to adopt them” shows he has a good heart and a capacity for empathy, Checkmate, tumblr.
Bill burr. Seeing him live was one of the greatest moments of my life. I was 4-5 rowed back, dead center, sipping bourbon on a Saturday night with my lovely wife next to me and it was all laughs. Fuckin love this guy.
I went to the Philippines last year, and I absolutely loved it. Manila was the most fascinating place I have been in my entire life. The people are friendly and hard working, they're mostly in shape, the scenery is lovely, the culture is terrific. I can't wait to go back. Then I landed in Vancouver, and I had no trouble finding my flight to Portland, because it was the only flight to America that day, and I was the skinniest person there by a solid 30 lbs (and I'm 40 lbs overweight myself).
I'm exactly in the healthy BMI category, and I have overweight Americans telling me I'm too skinny. My wife wife who wears size M clothes anywhere else in the world, is considered an XXS in the US. Most Americans, especially those from the midwest, have no idea howw distorted their idea of "average" is because of the obesity epidemic.

The last time I went clothes shopping a few years ago, garments marked size-0 fit more like a size-4. I knew vanity sizing was rampant (where they mark clothes using smaller numbers so people think they can fit in smaller sizes). But that's the whole reason size-0 was created because vanity sizing went too far and they needed a placeholder to represent the size. (Size-0 used to be called an 8 or a 10 in the 50s- yeah, those size 8-10 pinups/screen sirens were incredibly petite.) So now that size-0 is more like a size-4, they'll have to make up more sizes. ROFL. And they had to do this on the opposite end of the spectrum- a lot of brands aren't stopping at XXL! They go up to 6XL! And I'm watching people freak out over thin celebrities and stuff, assuming they are unhealthy or enduring excess pressure to be thin, like "Y'all do know they are average-sized in other countries, right?? You guys are the oddballs with the eating disorders here."
I was in a mood at work, waiting for a customer to come sign off on the job, had me waiting for like 10 minutes, I’m at a mild stewing point… and this 2yr old walks by with his family and in full toddler-bobble-stride walks head first into the sidelight glass panel next to the exit door, falls bop on his bottom, and starts crying. Turned my whole day around. 😂

Dude I feel for people with legitimate mental health issues and addictions that lead to crazy weight gain. Food and sugar addiction is a real disease. These people have no choice but to eat the same quantities of sugar all the time or they will get pretty bad withdrawal symptoms. This is why is such a difficult thing to get away from eating disorders. Letting yourself go and getting fat are a very different thing from having an eating disorder. They are usually developed after traumatic experiences.

The world view is you dont have an addiction your just greedy. Food is a drug especially sugar and flavours. For some when they eat it releases feel good hormones and it's that what they are addicted to. But the come down from all the sugar and salt leaves you feeling depressed and shameful about eating it but you crave that feel good feeling so want to eat more you cant help yourself. Food addiction kills more people every year then any other form of addiction. Yet when people go to doctors for help they get told just stop eating so much. It's like telling a drug addict to stop taking drugs or an alcoholic to stop drinking. It's not going to happen without some form of help or intervention.
I understand that obesity can occur secondary to depression or psychological trauma which in turn can lead to more depression creating a vicious cycle but you've got to start somewhere. You have to make the decision to improve yourself and bring yourself out of the hole. You can't expect people to always be nice because, let's face it, not everyone you come across will be nice. This is one of those situations where you have to put your blinders on, ignore the world and work on yourself and seek the medical attention you need.
Or, hear me out on this, we could stop blaming victims and excusing asshole behavior - no idea how as a society we decided it's worse to be fat than a total narcissistic dick lacking empathy
