    I want to get up at 4 am and hit a Car boot sale ! Good point about the sadness of one of us passing on with no one to curate, or let's say.. care even a little bit for their collection. A note about "Bullit" We still have a number of 1968 Shelby Mustangs on the streets here out west.. Especially during "Hot August Nights" a massive classic car rally here in Reno in said month. Poignant to show and care about this gentleman's love for film and music !

      Love the fast back Shelby Mustangs. That must be a nice sound when they are together...

      On my Ameoba Records San Francisco video, I captured a 68 Mustang Shelby driving down windy Lombard Steet.. I got lucky with that. It's in the first minute of my vid. Thanks, Dale !

    Faith for 50p. Bloody marvellous

      Indeed, I can't complain at a bit of crackle for 50p...

  • @anotherfatbeardedmantalkin5893

    Ha! I'm glad it's not just me who still makes juvenile schoolboy errors, despite being a seasoned record buyer. Last week I found a Camper Van Beethoven 12" single at a charity shop. I checked the quality of the disc, chuckled to myself and bought it. Later as I attempted to play it I discovered it record was actually Saturday Night Fever! Doh!

      I was so slack in checking the records that I also bought a copy of Elton John's Tumbleweed Connection that had no record at all in the sleeve!

    Great pickups for £2 a pop - except for the Cheap Thrills of course, although maybe worth it for the sleeve to upgrade a future purchase. The Jimmy Smith Blue Note is 1st prize though - you're right about him being prolific, I have 6 of his other albums on Blue Note!
    Thanks Dale for showing and for the stories too.

      Thanks Richard - I'm happy to just have the Cheap Thrills cover for £2. Obviously better to have the record too...I think Jimmy Smith recorded more that 30 studio albums just in the 60s...

    I would keep both Cure records, or pass on the newer copy. Your OG could use a touch of clear glue which will take care of that split. Use paper clips to adhere the split .Glad to hear how good Faith sounds on your UK original ! The titles that you picked up are so cool ! Your Tim Hardin debut is interesting.. All of them, actually..

      I think I will keep both copies of Faith for now. I'll look into your repair technique and see what I can do...cheers Dale

      Some leave it alone, but I do like fixing those tears. Mazzy's friend Doctor Robert's did a nice video on an excellent tear repair technique. I just finished my next Tokyo vid.. Got it down to 14 minutes. 🎵

    Some good finds - I’d always keep duplicates if they are diff presses , originals always tend to sound better than reissues but have the condition factor - record cleaners can be your best friend with used vinyl !

      @gatefold33  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I agree record cleaners are invaluable (I'm on my third!), although they can't clean scratches unfortunately...

    I'd keep both Cure records and I would have bought it for that price. You found some really great stuff. In the past, I never liked Sly, but I have grown to like it much much better. Cool Eno find. I never ever see The Blue Nile anywhere, so that was a fine find.

      Thanks Brian i think I will keep both Cure records for now. I'll certainly give Sly a chance this time...

  • @stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147

    What? Not a fan of Sly? Dale , I am now worried about you. I may fly to the UK to do an intervention! Loved that Stiff book. Car boot sales are back, let the fun begin

    I have had very little luck at thrift stores with records but I have found some DVD's that were worthwhile and a few books. The extras you picked up are really cool. I like the records that you picked up especially the Jimmy Smith and Sly albums. It's too bad about the Cheap Thrills album.

      Thanks Randy, the extras in the DVDs are interesting to read through

    I love finding ephemera and such like in records and books - anything which gives an insight into a previous owner. When I moved back to Cumbria I had to get rid of all my music magazines (must have been hundreds). I really wanted to go through them and cut out reviews and articles and place them in relevant albums, but there just wasn't the time - shame.
    A couple of years ago at a record fair I came across a copy of Renaissance's Ashes Are Burning album - the cover looked immaculate and it was in the £2 bin. It was a gap in my collection at the time so I was excited at finding it. I did think that at that price I better check the vinyl, which I did do and it looked really good All well and fine then, except in checking the vinyl I didn't actually look at the label itself. It was only when I got it home that I discovered it was Joe Brown album! So we all do it 😂.

      As well as what I have put into record sleeves, I have nearly 20 lever-arch files full of magazine articles I have cut out. All of which I doubt I will ever read, so you probably did the right thing...

    Always fascinating to find records or books with contemporary articles, reviews..i've unwittingly found several of those over the years.
    Q magazine in the 90s used to do ' CD' inserts containing articles and reviews that could be inserted into a CD jewel case..REMs Green was one i had.
    The smash n grab vibe of the car boot is one of the reasons i tend to avoid them, but you can clearly picknup good stuff for cheap.
    Nice Curtis original.
    Aaggghh..what a shame about Cheap Thrills, still at least it was another Janice and not a Roger Whittaker!...( i actually prefer Pearl)
    Another Green World is lovely..complete with South Bank Show theme.
    The first 2 Tim Hardins are terrific ( albeit shirt).
    Some great finds Dale.

      The cut and thrust of car boots does test your patience in several ways but generally I find it an enjoyable experience and sometimes worth the early starts...

    Some monster scores there Dale. I'm surprised to hear you're lukewarm on Sly & Family though. Their greatest hits CD blew my mind back in the early noughties, yet apart from their debut I've never been able to track down any of their albums.

      @@gatefold33 It's definitely Saturday night music with a few ales or wines. Not for a Tuesday afternoon over an Earl Grey.

    Ah so you had a bit of a Gollium 'my precious records' moment. This is one reason I don't do car boots it's not just the early start it's the other competitors that wreck it for me. Rich pickings versus real scavenging I'd go for the latter though if the previous are knocking about I sometimes grab them too (including cheating using discogs where required).
    Meticulous clippings.

    • @gatefold33
      @gatefold33  Před 3 měsíci +1

      The clippings are a level of collecting I hope I never reach, although I certainly have my own obsessiveness quirks...

    Ok. Keep the OG Curtis. The U.K. pressing on Buddah sounds ace. As you said, sell the two Cure albums and buy a better first press. Nice.
    Stand! Is a classic. Stick with it, it’s a top three Sly album. That’s him at his pop peak.
    I’m yet to find a record at a car boot this year. Hoping to break my duck at the weekend.

    • @gatefold33
      @gatefold33  Před 3 měsíci

      Yes, maybe, probably. I saw you appear on Brumseller video - did you find anything at the weekend? I was lucky to find some nice 12"s, even though I only had third dibs on the box...
