Not a bad selection of jazz records. I do know the John Mayer / Joe Marriott. It is not a bad album at all. I enjoyed it. I only listened to it once and it has been a while since I did so. But I do remember it being enjoyable. I remember that Robert Palmer album selling really well at my record store called Strawberries. Garth Hudson and Rick Danko from The Band both played on the album. The Beach Boys drummer who filled in for Dennis on the Carl in the Passions and Holland albums Ricky Fataar played on the Palmer album too~

Very cool that you got to add Crystal Gayle to your Mofi collection. I have to be honest with you Martin. I didn't even know that Mobile Fidelity released any of her music. I am wondering if the music good enough to do so? Once again. The variety of artists was smashing. I enjoyed the update very much as always. Enjoy the upcoming weekend to the fullest. I hope the weather is going to be better than the weather that we have lined up for the weekend. The weather here in Mass has been dismal during the weekends. It started about four endless summers ago. It is consistently beautiful from Monday through Friday. As soon as the weekends come the weather sours out. Cloudy and rainy. There is something very sinister going on up there. {smile} Catch up soon M~

I cannot perceive how it would just rain at weekends 🤐😐🤨🙄😏 the mofi pair i found are not so collectable and off my usual list Crystal Gayle isn't she even more easy listening? Anyway I feel obliged to try them.

Hi Martin. Yes it was me and Hedley that talked about that Goo cover. It's Myra's sister and her boyfriend as I recall. That Kim book looks good.

It adds a certain coolness but creepiness the Kim book is a real good read though the arty people now she's in NY and talking about I've no idea apart from Andy Warhol who they are.

Sean Rowley. Interesting bloke. When I moved back to London in 99 he always used to be DJ ing in these tiny clubs we went in..that would disappear the week after. He used to play lots of charity shop exotica & easy listening, that was having a big revival at the time. He did a great programme on channel four called ‘All Back To Mine’ ., the accompanying compilation album for the TV series was great too.

    • @Thevinylscavenger

He seemed a decent enough guy. Guilty Pleasures is his big kahuna now playing non cool 70s records daytime for people our age trying to be cool. I think he is used to people like me by now 😅 that's it, you get in the ('London') door and your in for life. Shall we call them 'hipster influencers'? Milking the cash cow with a certain panache before me or you thought of an idea. There was the sound gallery and in flight albums I have somewhere maybe he did those I'd have to check the sleeve notes. OK mate have a good weekend. Slovakia that footballing giant heavyweight await tomorrow........

They disappeared in 1959. When they finally came back it was the eighties? That is a great story. I wish that I could disappear and come back in the late sixties. I could then go and see some of the musicians that I miss like Hendrix, T Rex, Joplin and The Doors. {smile} The only Big Daddy that I was familiar was a band that covered Welcome to the Jungle. They perform it fifties style and throw in The Lion Sleeps Tonight in the middle of the song. It was not that bad. BTW. It is great to see you back again and doing a new finds update Martin~

Hey Rob, yes I've not been so prolific of late because just now so busy with work like your good self. I would like more time but have to concede that it's not possible but I listen to radio when driving about so get a decent fix from that. Never heard of Big Daddy but I'm a sucker for cover versions. Have a great weekend, Martin.

Nice jazz finds Martin. I got a stack of records that were a bit musty earlier in the year. Just leaving them to dry out and then giving them a wipe seems to have reduced the smell. Some very nice finds from the person's house you were just passing. Well scavenged...

Hi Martin. I'm on the look out for Kim Gordon's autobiography in the charity shops. The only band-related t-shirt I ever bought was one showing the 'Goo' cover ... 'Deodato 2' is an excellent album, in my opinion ... The brilliant Cherry Red label RPM re-released 10 Leo Sayer albums on CD. I picked up 'Silverbird' and 'Just A Boy' recently. Have a listen to the track 'Why Is Everybody Going Home'. Stunning string arrangement and vocals ... I'm surprised you're undecided about the Bonzo Dog Band's 'Gorilla' and Al Stewart's 'Year Of The Cat'. Both of those are amongst my favourites.

    • @Thevinylscavenger
      @Thevinylscavenger  Před 16 dny +1

Your right I played al Stewart tonight the songs are really good and well produced. Bonzo dog is pretty wacky out there so I should like it.

    Quite a big scavenger haul!
The Goo cover is by Raymond Pettibon, who drew most of the album covers by Black Flag. Apparently Pettibon didn’t realise the image was Myra Hindley connected. He just found the photo in a magazine, liked it and drew his version of it.
That Bonzo Dog Band Gorilla album is very nice and desirable too. A Mono copy and not the very common budget reissue version that I have.

I called it right, let Slovakia get one so they feel good then wait until 2 minutes of extra time to go and bang one in for a laugh and let Kane do his thing n park the bus in the extra 30mins!! Doesn't bode well does it?
A mixed bag of picks there Martin, seen that Gorilla recently. I don't think I've ever had an OMR but good to have Year of the Cat. I'd be interested to see a video of you selling this stuff and how well you do if you feel like it,

I'm jealous. Did he have thunder in his pants afterwards though? I didn't watch it. I can't stand England far too stressful. I could do a selling video sure milk those cash cows. The Polish jazz one I cleaned up just the sleeve isn't so great.

I read that Kim Gordon book - I am not a Sonic Youth fan, so I am not sure why I read it. I found I didn't like her, or Thurston Moore. Leaving the covers in a container full of charcoal, maybe even kitty litter should do the trick. Lovely jazz in that whole bunch. The Iron Maiden 12" single cover is amazing - you MUST keep it just for that. Bonzo is a must keep as well - The Intro and Outro is outstanding. Why did Mofi do a Crystal Gayle record?

  • @MrElirecords

I'm also not so keen on classic jazz music although Jimmy Smith is great. I think the Modern Jazz Quartet was once signed to Apple. Always like many of your bargains finds, Martin like the 60's soul (Motown comp.) or the UFO and others.

The Paul Barbarin jazz album that you flashed at the end of the video could be a good listen if the sound quality is halfway decent. Barbarin played with some of the top New Orleans jazz bands of the 1920s and stayed around long enough to enjoy the New Orleans jazz revival in the '50s and '60s. His "Bourbon Street Parade" is a standard. Barbarin died drumming in the Mardi Gras parade of 1969. --- If you don't like the record now, save it in your library for another day. It may grow on you.
The Coleman Hawkins record might be a pleasing listen. The Verve label didn't push avant-garde jazz. Verve was the jazz senior care home for old guys who still enjoyed playing and recording. It's my favorite jazz label.
I enjoy the Modern Jazz Quartet, but some of their experiments don't connect with me. I sampled Lola on CZcams. The saxophone does make it sound a bit like a Brubeck record. The difference is that the sax playing is shrill rather than sweet and smooth. This one hurt my ears. The Discogs price on the album would make it easy to part with. You could sell it or trade it for a complete collection of Leo Sayer's entire discography.
Here's what I do if I need to air out a funky record jacket: 1.) Take the record out of the jacket. 2.) Crumple up a fresh sheet of typing/copy paper and insert the paper ball into the jacket pocket, opening the pocket. 3.) Allow time for fresh air to circulate inside the open jacket pocket. Position the open pocket so that it faces a fan or air purifier. You could also let it air out in the sunshine. (This usually does the trick.) 4.) Store the record jacket in a new plastic sleeve. Store the record in a new inner sleeve in the backside of the outer sleeve. (If some funky odor remains inside the jacket pocket, it won't be strong enough to escape.) ---- Do whatever works best for you on the jacket scrubbing. I'm willing to risk using Clorox wipes when the cover needs to be disinfected. Don't forget to scrub the inside of the jacket. That's the stinky spot!
I've never listened to an Iron Maiden album, but the Prisoner is my favorite single-season television program. (It's too long to be a miniseries.) Would I buy an Iron Maiden LP album if it was bargain? Probably. Would I ever listen to it? Not until I get headphones that will work with my amplifier.
I did see Michael Schenker play a club show with UFO in 1995. It was a good time. They either ran out of songs that they had rehearsed, or they gave the fans what they wanted by playing "Rock Bottom" twice in the second or third encore.
    Happy 4th of July,

@@DallasOpenMicr as thorough an answer as I've come to expect so whatever I write back I feel I've short changed you. The Barbarin not Barbara Ann (arf arf) is scratchy so not salvageable. I'm not sure about alot of jazz including all the bits but the Polish one will definitely be finding a new home. Did you mean what we used to call 'carbon copy' paper like the black stuff? I will probably keep the iron maiden - I have previously been into them. To me as a indie grunge 90s boy I always considered them hair metal and outdated. I too very much like, liked the prisoner, still not been to Portmerrion but it's on my hitlist. 4th July is weirdly our general election here today, have just finished work so will go and vote now. No idea until I get there. In reality it's a two horse race with ruling party and opposition usually the other big party or occasional coalitions there are about 6-8 standing here and it's been same conservative party for over a century. I think he'll probably win again. Happy July 4th to you!

The political pendulum seems to be swinging in the pattern that has been predicted. It's unwise to put faith in a politician. The pendulum is more reliable.
You've got me wondering if Portmeirion attracts influences who would be taking photos and videos everywhere. It might be hard to run on the sandy beach without bumping into a distracted narcissist.
