Must be a mess to thaw and clean though? I'd like to see that process more than the making of the ice.
#LGRW
Then what?? 🤷🏼
God forbid they show the final product
Ugh... I can't get paint to stick to my door; these guys painting water that stands up to knife shoes.
What kinda ice.....
Yo I thought the white part of it was in the ice and the rest was atop and a thin layer was above that. That's amazing work they do.
We're going to put a little bush right here in the corner. A happy little bush. It'll be our secret. 😉
That's why a hot dog cost $15 and a tall boy is $20, it cost $20,000 to paint the "ice"
I want a job like this. Keep applying through the Flyers. If i make it, ill sneak some videos.
I never thought the ice itself was painted. I figured it was a layer ice that was just thick enough to skate on, but thin enough to see a design on the floor beneath it.
Text on the screen is waaaayyy too big. Shrink it down and repost?
Это очень интересная работа!
I always thought the floor was painted and the ice laid on top... every day is a school day 🤯
Wtf.......
Great result!
Would have been nice if I could have read the white text in the video over the white ice
They do that every game?
I had no idea that shit was all painted by hand. Kudos to the artist.
If I asked someone “So, what do you do?” and they responded that they “paint the ice white at the ice rink” I’d totally think they’re just pulling my leg before seeing this 😮😂
Who knew huh!?!
I know that logo anywhere, go wings baby!
I just always assumed the ice was clear and the color was under the ice... I'm dumb
Show me more!😅
I’d do that in a heartbeat
I always thought that surface was permanently painted like a basketball court
The more I learn the more I realize everything is fake.
A big thank you to these women and men!
Anyone know what kind of paint they use?
Really??? They have to do this for EVERY SINGLE GAME??? 🤦♂️ cmon theres gotta be a better quicker way. Smarter not harder, people!
Leonardo da Vinci pioneered that template with the multiple tiny holes.
pouncing. Pounce wheel or more modern version electric pounce wheel. Still used to this day for laying out hand painted signs, pinstripe designs, car graphics etc. I still do things this way, screw vinyl lol I prefer hand done things.
it is like watching paint dry.
This gave me an idea… NHL in season tournament with team colored ice. A full purple or red or whatever ice rink
Wow 😮 that’s amazing
I feel stupid😂😂😂😂 I didnt know they painted the ice white....lmao. I dont know how I pictured, never really thought about it. But ice is clear😂😂. And with whatevers under the ice, made it look mad dirty.😂
Damn just gonna cut it off when it gets good 😂
I was 42 years old when I realised I dumb I am that I didn’t realise this was how they made the ice white 😂
Why did I always think they painted the ground below the ice and you could just see it through the ice?
Couldn't have shown the end result?
Most people forget that frozen water isn’t white.
Wow
Its so great they cut these shorts half way through the process.
Lmao fr
That wasn't the perfect stopping point when they were just starting the cool part?
Shorts are only a minute long
How can you not show the finished result!? That is aggravating.
This Hass to be done for every game?? Holy crap.
I was a Cx Manager on a new build Ice Rink project in London and I found this very therapeutic to watch on lunch break 😂
Would it not be more efficient to just have a huge template you could spread out, like canvas maybe, you do the paint job once but then you can roll up if needed for other events then reuse the canvas rather than retail and paint everything? I must be missing something.
Ah, the precision necessary to get the Red Wings' Wheeled Wheel perfect.
COOL!!!
If I had this job they would go to drop the puck at center ice, look down and see a nice pair of blue cheeks right on the dot.
Go Wings 🪽
Oh shit I messed up
They hand do this every time? And every team does it this way? Lol that seems insane. Specially the teams that share their building with other sports or teams? Im confused theres not a easier way to do this like have below the ice in pre made sections that you just put together like basketball courts
Id have just called it a day after the white paint.
Damn you have to be so precise
Can we see the other side where it goes back to a regular floor
I work at an outdoor rink (roller during summer season) and we do the exact same thing, except for all the lines, we essentially use papier-mâché and roll it out with water so it freezes. Then add more layers of water until ice is thick enough to use the Zamboni. Super cool process
Hockey is the best sport on Earth!
🐙
I could barely see the red wangs stencil
Ummmm. Just stick down some precut vinyl? Save yourself a day or two.
Too bad they cut off painting the logo
Let’s go Red Wings!
This kinda doubles as ice painting and ASMR, and as a long-time hockey follower, I'm all for it.
I actually went ahead and found the full video related to this: czcams.com/video/bi3dNDLajEQ/video.html
I would’ve thought they’d have it permanently painted and cover it up with tiles or mats when there’s other events going on
А как таймер на льду интерактивный,который отсчитывает PP тогда?
Go Wings !
I thought by now they would have plastic cutouts of what is needed.
LGRW! 🐙
А что за краска используется?
This was truly a great video. Thanks.
My gay friend use to do this. Lol weak
Раньше под лёд материал подкладывали цвета разметки.
How do you skate on paint? What the fuck?
I've done this
Wtf it got painted? I always thought its was plastic underneath the final top layer.
Art has no function other than itself... So not artists... Just Painters.
It’s insane that they have to paint the ice before every game.
Ya... that's not a thing...
They'll keep the ice there for as long as possible. For instance, here in Chicago, the Hawks and Bulls play in the same stadium. When the Bulls play they put the basketball court on top of the ice. It's like puzzle pieces. 😅
I akways thought the stuff was painted on the floor and they just made ice on top of it lol
A lot of ice arenas where I grew up had gravel smoothed out over the refrigerant coils. Then they would just flood it with water and wait for a few days. Once there was ice, then they would dye the lines and circles on it. Once the dye froze, they would lightly apply small amounts of water until the dye was covered by about an inch of ice. There was no white paint.
I think that the white paint came along when they realized that it would cost much less to keep a 1” sheet of ice frozen than 6” of ice/gravel, dye, and ultimately another inch of ice.
You can see this in old clips of the NHL. The ice wasn’t always that brilliant white.
Anyway, I’m an old man. Just reminiscing about how it was done when I was a kid.😂
My uncle was the scorekeeper for the Washington Caps for decades. I watched them do this once when I went to “the office” with him. Amazing work!
With the ability to have graphics now added ingame, such as sponsors on the boards, I am surprised they don't do it that way. But then again, there is nothing like the pride of seeing the badge of your hometown boys painted on a 200x85' surface.. GO BRUINS!!!!
What a art, I figured they'd use vinyl templates or something.
In Finland we paint the floor white.
Rink Rat bts: That’s not a super fun job, but it is cool to be there and see a new sheet go down. The process is pure monotony but satisfying to finish and that first skate on a pristine sheet is special.
Nice but how was it in the 50s
I mean there painting the floor, the ice is transperant i assume....
Reminds me of cricket ovals, artists on the pitch, and with the field 🔥
Shocked the ice is painted white (…and therefore clearly racist)
Usually the markings are under the ice and not painted on top
The pros make it look easy, well done.
The real question is not if you can paint the ice rink but if you can make the ice itself which is a true art form.......
Let’s Go Red Wings
Thats so weird, I always thought the colour was painted on the base of the rink and that you could see it through the ice
I had no idea they painted this by hand and the white paint makes sense but i never thought about it
You know, your kind of bitchey, sarcastic complaining, whining voice really grates my sensibilities.
Can’t AI do it?
What? I always thought they were permanent colours on the ground with a layer of ice above 😅
Red wings 😎
Are they painting the floor and the ice will be put on top? Or are they painting the ice?
What kind of paint do they use?
This processe is done BELOW the ice, isn't it? The ice comes ABOVE all this paint.
Otherwise, these people in sneakers would all be stumbling down. And I don't think they skate on the paint...
I always thought it’s all under ice 😂
