Hey man, love your content. I've been playing my whole life but was never coached or played organized. I picked a lot up and can hold my own, but am blown away by how much I just didn't know. Let me know if you need a waterboy or equipment sherpa. Lol
This is likely a skating coach, not your average peewee house league guy. I never had a coach who taught me to me skate, but was lucky enough my parents could afford to send me to an instructor like this. Unless you live somewhere without ice everyone that can afford it can get lessons like this. Shout out Nancy Gruhl.
You dont even need to be interested in hockey. They never teach anyone how to stop on skates and you either pick yourself to death or stay near the boards too afraid to go more than a snails pace.
How you stop should depend on the quality of the ice. You have to adjust your skating style to the softness or hardness of the ice. Its been said by many NHLers that NHL ice is very soft. I've seen pro players fall from trying to turn too quickly or turn too sharp and the ice gives out from underneath them and they fall. This has also happened to me with soft, wet ice. It's almost like you're trying to skate on a snow cone. I've seen where a teammate was trying to pass the puck really hard, only for the puck to stop dead in its tracks because it hit a patch of water. I've read articles where equipment managers will sharpen the players skates based on how hard or soft the ice is. Here is a tip, if you're playing on soft ice and you have to turn quickly, kick your inside leg out and pivot around it. So, if you're turning very sharp to the left, kick your left leg out with your toes pointing up and your heel pointing down, and have your right skate pivot around your left skate. This will stabilize you and prevent the ice from giving out underneath you.
My legs never let me do this to my backhand side I know this sounds wild but I literally could only stop like this to one side. I’d try the other way it’s like I turned retard
Ooooooo. You never did figure skating........ You're close to the truth. Very close. How do you do cross-overs? First day on hockey skates I was slowest in my tryouts going forward. I was the blue line clear of everyone going backwards. The inside edge he's talking about here carries maybe 20% of your weight so continue to do you're regular stops. Keep your body low then what this guy said will happen naturally.
Never trust a hockey coach unless he’s got a Canadian accent
He has one, listen to the way he says “out”
They know what it's all a-boot
Ye
Why did my coach never explain this... spent my peewee years tryna stop like a scrub
Mist coaches knew nothing about the sport and were just one of the players dads.
Sounds like a skill issue
@@Gl-my8fw ya my dad was often my coach, and he mainly played goalie haha
I used the boards to stop a lot. I was so bad at skating I was drafted first round by the ice crew to play back up Zamboni.
Zambonis got some cred 🤗
Hilarious..hockey rules
I learned how to skate and how to stop by watching Shoresy on 'Letterkenny' as a linesman. 😅

I had so many instruction camps as a kid back in the 80s. They seemed like work as a kid, but my hockey sense as an adult is so much better for it.
I can't stop for shit on my outside edge
My goal is to skate that smooth 👌 ❤❤❤

When skiing, I do hockey stop with the pressure on the heels ( heels are stronger than toes). I presumed, this also work with hockey.

This is very true and good advice for anyone interested in hockey. 👍

Great explanation
Played hockey my whole life and no one ever taught me that. I figured it out on my own but it would have been nice to know from jump

He is sooooo pro pretty way of skating.Simply the Wow
es cierto, nunca me había dado cuenta! y es más permite una mejor flexión de ambas rodillas, dando un ángulo más agudo de las cuchillas con el hielo
Mannnnn had I known this in minor hockey I would have been unstoppable. Wowie.
I see you kid with the BGSU jersey!!
I was gonna say the same thing
For anyone who might have an answer. When I practice my outside edge stop my skate stutters. Any advice on how to fix that??

Soft ice has more grip so it's the opposite
When I played we called it a T stop, I played roller and ice I prefer ice hockey 🏒
Man I was always so shit at stopping to the right when I played this would have helped so much 🤦♂️
So nice

Wait, but I can do the first way using both feet?
Can I stop like this on roller skates?
Yup, its all in the wheel hardness and the surface
I already got fjed stopping wrong
Jesus looks like leg injuries happen easily in hockey
Hidad
Poor kids
Kid in the background wearing a BGSU jersey

He kinda looks like a nerd
I never stop by dropping my stick at my feet…….that’s just foolish
