for all the crap this game got (and deserved) the flying still feels sick 🤠
If you ever play this and get to endgame (lvl 30, full legendary equipment) you have a lot more versatility with builds. Creating a combo oriented ranger or an ultimate oriented ranger. All are possible, just the RNG is quite garbage. Same thing can be said of every class, melee builds, combo builds, weapon builds, etc. Sure some are better than others but play the way you want and it still is impactful and fun. You missed the cataclysm event which was absolutely awesome as it offered new weapon types, new abilities, new melee weapons for each class, and new gear slots for support abilities as well. Like another commenter said, EA and BioWare dropped this game way too soon. It needed another year or 2 to bake before release and it would have been sort of like the division, but in an Ironman suit. Still the best Ironman game out there and it isn’t Ironman. Also the grind to lvl 30 is way too long and there is not enough enemy diversity (in both factions and wildlife). The open world is a little too dead and feels repetitive because no variety in enemies. The story was super generic and bland but the gameplay/control of your own player and the combo system is still absolutely incredible. But everything else was subpar and it should have been given time to be fleshed out. Released too soon.
hey man @jayveee I know this video is not a star citizen one but can u sahre the name of the music u use on that videos, I would love to play the game while listening to it
the flying was best thing of the game
Facts
The idea for this game resonated with me more than all but a couple others. I was even down with the npc dialogue and simple missions. The thing about looter shooters is that you need a ton of content to roll through with neat secrets hidden around and content is one thing game never had.
Think borderlands 3 with all its areas.
Playing through the content this game did have was one of the best shooter experiences I've had though.
RIP
It actually hurts to watch this. This game really had so much potential.
It really hurts. I had 3700 hours in Anthem.
I think if they greenlit Anthem 2, i'd still be excited for what it "could" be.
I really enjoyed it, such a waste.
@@petrsvancara8785 How'd you put that much time into a game with like negative content? Lol
@@death-thresh9548 Obviously you dont know that much about the Anthem, do you? Anthem had one of the best if not THE best and truly unique open-world environment that I ever seen, and Im already playing for at least 20 years. Currently Im 36 years old. Every other open-world in most of the other classic games are just made as a simple flat ground and almost boring locations. Anthem has been very unique in a lot of Its own aspects. It has both horizontal and vertical traveling, where in most games youre usually looking from left to right, there you could look and go up, down, deeper or higher. There were dungeons, underwater pathways and a huge amount of open space on every corner of this world. When it comes to the customisation, it has the deepest customisation I ever seen. You could change the materials of your suit, the type of metal, you could change their colors and look, their roughness and much more. Each parts of your suit has been fully influenced by this clever system. On the other hand, the gameplay itself was always phenomenal. If you compare this gameplay to the Halo series which Im also a huge fan, you will realise that in general the Halo gameplay is absolutely stable and almost silly, and it isnt evolved into anything else other than what it already is, a classic first person shooter. I love Halo as well. But Anthem was truly unique, original and timeless concept of a something that has never before existed. I Will rather support the Anthem than yet another Halo game. Original games are very limited, and this was one of the most original games I ever played.
I'll forever remember how EA said: "well revamp the game and give it more content", and then 1 month later or whatever, EA was like "You know what? I've changed my mind, it's dumped".
By "revamp the game" they meant they were hoping modders would fix it like everything else.
Yeah EA deff gives me the “it’s not you, it’s me” energy when they killed this game lmao
*6 months later
@@Bloodhoven sounds like blizzard rn
@@whendarknessfalls6969 Incorrect. They hired the Bioware Austin team who actually know how to use the game engine and made mmo's before (SWTOR) they came in and fully revamped the game. They were even posting progress online and it looked promising until EA simply pulled the plug just a few weeks before the 2.0 update released that could have saved the game...
I still believe this game had so much untapped potential that was never realized. I wish some game devs would create a spiritual successor to this game and make it succeed.
Exoprimal
They were too busy developing dreadwolf
@@craigmorrison4016 anthem is better tho
@@limwellz idk what ur smoking but anthem is ass. Dragon age is better imo
@@craigmorrison4016 I wish. Exosuits are cool and shit, but the customization with recoloring and clown skins is bad. Most of them don't even have a double jump so nothing compared to flying in anthem. No actual customization. And everything stems from the fact that the core game is just another compepitive session arena shooter wich is not fun at all
The flying and skill / combo gameplay was solid. The main problem was there was too much live service and not enough game.
Same here, great smooth combat/flying/powers, but the rest of the game was mediocre at best.
Blame EA. Everything people complain about is a direct result of EA. The reason there wasn't enough game is because EA kept changing their mind on what they wanted, kept changing major things, and still demanded they meet the release dates.
The combo system was actually one of my least favorite parts. Combo was the only way to do effective damage, meaning your guns were basically only there to setup combos. This really took away from any shooter aspect of it in my opinion. I still played a ton of this game when it first came out though, the customization was sooooo good.
It also didnt help that for the lack luster live service Bioware still refused to do what the community wanted, like nerfing the loot rates when players discovered rare loot drop chances suddenly increased in one of the updates, game was actually doing good for those few days and Bioware quickly came incand ruined the fun despite the entire community voicing their happiness.
@@hoofhearted4 honestly got no fuckin idea how EA hasn’t gone bankrupt do to the sheer amount of underwhelming games recently. istg if they become the new bethesda i am going to be pissed
If this got the No Mans Sky treatment, then this game would have been amazing.
No one wanted it. No one even wanted Anthem to begin with; that's the whole reason they threw it in the trash.

@@_Levison I wanted it. I was really disappointed with what happened.
It will always baffle me that a game with this good of a concept, this possibly good of a gameplay, fumbled so hard it died in the span of a year. The potential for greatness is so close yet will never be realized. Anthem is one of the many undeserving victims of modern game development.
Right?!? This gameplay looks SO cool!! What a shame

Wanna hear a sad story? My husband and I were diehard Paragon players, it was OUR game and we had so much fun playing together. But then Epic abandoned it. So when we heard about Anthem we thought “this is it! Our next game!” and we preordered two copies and played our little hearts out. And then EA abandoned it 🙃
good news is Paragon is back
Your fault for trusting EA
Miss Paragon so much, the remakes are ok but nah, doesnt feel the same, not polished enough
@@xypher0055 Yess! I’ve been playing Predecessor! Haven’t messed around with any of the others though.
@@dantesoeiro6878 Predecessor makes me rage the way Paragon used to, so I think they are on the right track 🙃 Jokes aside, I really do think Omeda will do the best they can to deliver a solid game, we just gotta hang in there!
I still honestly wish someone out there will pick up this game and somehow revive it and make it better
(THQ NORDIC) . . . . walks through the door, you rang?
I kinda want to learn how to make games just to make a dream iron man fantasy game like this come to life.
You and me both. I missed my opportunity to get the game refunded because, at the time, I actually believed them in there "we're going to fix it" response. As soon as I heard they left barely a skeleton crew to "fix" it I knew it wasn't going to happen and that I had made a mistake. I did enjoy what I played other then the flying..couldn't get the hang of it. I was the "tank" class and it felt like I was flying/turning a bus when I was flying. Other then that it was a fun game, at least to me.
I still belong to r/ anthem and it is sad no one has tried rebooting this franchise.
You'd think it would be an easy IP to sell off to somewhere else
Playing interceptor and storm was probably the most fun in this game. The combos for them are so satisfying and the movement on the interceptor is incredible.
Agreed. The colossus or whatever was amazing too. From the bit I played, it filled that tank fantasy of charging through everything, and blowing things up with big guns.
Yea that combo mechanic was first confusing but once u learned it the sound effects were so crazy
This is my #1 game in the last five years for the greatest potential that was squandered. The game could've been so good. Mechanics felt great, but there was no content. Screw EA for abandoning this game.
Also I’ve never really seen anybody mention this but it has some of the best music I’ve ever heard in a video game. Legit made me like the game way more than I should’ve and I had my main character with maxed out gear. This game is probably the biggest letdown for me in the past decade. But I still loved it for the short time I did play it
RDR2 online entered the chat: Hold my beer (and it's not Bud Light) 🤣
@@TheProdiKaLiSon Oye, I played loved and hated both a lot. Now I just stick to indies mostly lol.
Screw EA permanently. They are the masters of not only online games, but the professionals at cramming games with MTX BS. And other companies are following their lead.
They abandoned before launch. LOL
I got the art book of Anthem and the stuff inside is absolutely amazing and stunning but also heartbreaking. They had incredible ideas, designs and visual for the game that we'll never see. It makes me so sad having this book and they did none of it in game.
The combat gameplay in this was just so damn good
This still hurts me never wanted a game to succeed more than this I can only hope someone replicates this
I cant say it better. It broke my heart when they cancelled the Anthem 2.0
EA deserves to burn to the ground and it's IPs deserve to be picked up by developers and companies who ACTUALLY care. *Cries in Alice Asylum*
@@petrsvancara8785 I hear you brother
@@2D_Stranger I don’t know why someone doesn’t it’s instant money
Warframe is pretty good, and the gameplay is sort of similar.
This game can be saved. This has so much potential. I hope someone can bring this back the right way.
I wish they would it would be a good game, but this game wasn't too bad. But it could have been much better, but still. There are games that are far worse than this
I actually had a blast playing this game. Loved the co-op and world design. The bugs did eventually add up and ruin it for me, but it was mad fun when things didn't break.
I still can’t get over the fact, that BioWare was 3/4th done with the Anthem 2.0 relaunch, and EA didn’t greenlight it
So much content just sitting
and people be like:
heheh buy next EA game
Where are you getting that they were 3/4 done with anything?
They pretty much said nothing before it was canceled besides talking about some changes that they were thinking about.
@@shadow_blaze2317 It's not hard to look at the updates and what their vision for the game was going to turn into with the release of 2.0.
1.7 was released in February 2020, 6 months later the update was cancelled and support was dropped.
With updates coming every 2 months, it's not hard to assume the update was almost done / ready to ship before EA pulled the plug.
Nah they where not lol they made this game in a year they had no content. Everything they had was in the game. Look at the updates after the game came out it was bad. They didn’t even know what game they wanted to make until a year b4 it came out
They made a call to focus on Dragon Age and Mass Effect, both more popular IP. I get it.
This is literally what an Iron Man game should be. Can’t believe EA dropped the ball on such solid gameplay. I jump back in every now and then just to get a taste. A massive amount of potential completely squandered
It’s why EA can’t be trusted with a mf thing
Most fun first 40 hours of gameplay I've personally experienced, the game itself was fantastic, it was the endgame that was abandoned
Exactly this. Once the bugs were mostly fixed, it was actually awesome to play. But the end game scaling was terrible, and the gameplay loop became stale super fast. There wasn't enough content to become a true live services game. Once you got through the campaign and got a couple of legendaries it was over. I actually put in 60 or 70 hours into the game before dropping it and had a lot of fun.
@spencerpalmer5176 so it's worth playing it for 5bucks, i just bought it and I figured 5 bucks? Why not....
I wish this game was still supported, I loved this game
Same here
I mean, it's not updated but the servers are still live
Is it free to play now? Looks like something I'd want to try. At least the flying and gunslinging looks fun. The environment, although a bit empty, looks detailed. If they add more types, like a desert where you build up heat more quickly, or a more mountainous region with more elevation, that could work too. They could even add vehicles in the game, or giant bosses that you can take on with a bunch of Javelins. (say like a raid boss) So much potential, I wish I could work on this game.
no but i find it for like 5 or 10 bux everywehre, aka no money anyways@@pinobluevogel6458
I got it in the first week and i actually had fun playing it. And i ve also plat it. I have to agree, this game could have been 10x better.
this game is dripping with potential
Dripping blood
Flying and fighting in this game felt AMAZING and i honestly think it’s still have the best battle mechanics - constant rotation between shooting and combining skills
The fire effects looked so awesome, the feeling of freezing something and then backhanding it with a shield felt glorious
This game was the closest we got to a modern, fluid Iron Man game and they dumped it. I hope this franchise is revived in the future
Seeing how Anthem was found on Steam and EA’s track record of releasing bangers recently (even Jedi Survivors which is a great game despite the performance issues) it would be interesting if this game made a come back.
EA doesn’t release bangers. Battlefield 2042, battlefront II, Madden/NFL/NBA 23 etc…
EA pumps out garbage constantly.
@@Creed5.56 I’m talking about recently post 2021. We got the Dead Space Remake, Need For Speed Unbound, Wild Hearts and Jedi Survivor.
EA doesn't make the games. The studios do. In this case, the last competent game bioware put out was dragon age inquisition. Everything after that has been shit.
@@fulcrum6760 EA didn’t make those games, they published them.
@@fulcrum6760 Jedi Survivor suffers from performance issues, Wild Hearts has Mixed score on steam and so has NFS Unbound which is already 70% off and only has around 3000 players according to steamcharts. I wouldn't call those bangers at all. Only Dead Space seems actually a good game although it suffers from stutterfest, something that most triple ayy PC games have problems with not just EA's.
I freaking loved this game it had massive potential to be super fun and it makes me sad everytime I think about what we missed out on
That flyby was hella awesome haha, I've been wanting to play this again, but was hesitant to because of how the performance was on pc, or if the servers were even active to be able to play. But watching this and your commentary has made me want to play again anyway haha. thank you!
Game had so much potential
It just needs more content…EA & BioWare didn’t support
Man. You hit the hammer with the nail.
When I feel sad about this game, as I often do, I fire up Ace Combat 7 and pretend my jet is a Javelin.
Remember the armor customization in this game? Kind of like the lightsabers in jedi survivor, the texture, material type and color were separated, and you could mix and match anywhere on your armor. Man i wish more games did stuff like that
anthem was awesome. even with all the shortcomings. all it needed was more than 3 dungeons to regrind
That's not all it needed
if Anthem had like ..8-12 more months to cook and make content, we'd have a fucking amazing game. Seriously a sad moment for all gamers when they gave up on it for quick release cash
@@terraglade Was this a smaller studio with limited funds or something? If I compare this to Warframe for example, they need a few months to come out with new content, or a year for bigger releases. Everything I see in this game looks pretty solid, except for the town part, cutscenes and horrible dialogue. Just building on the missions, or make it into a giant open world would have been an excellent option.

I tried this game out a couple years ago and it felt great. The fact that the devs abandoned it is what killed it.
@Xut ONE TIME where I'm on EA's side is here. They sunk a lot of money into this project, and over half a decade of dev time. The team behind this didn't understand what they were making until the trailer! So when they saw a game that had barely to no return on the investment after years and years of energy dropped into it, what were they supposed to do? This falls on THE LEADS of the game. Had they started sooner and further developed the world, activities etc, with that flight as a base... Well yeah it would've been awesome.
@@milosradmilac8911 well the suits poured how much money into these devs to blow it? So yes it's on the people who gave these people a check to fail too

The Devs WERE professionals.
It's the suits who FOR THE FUCKING LOVE OF THEIR OWN WORTHLESS LIVES couldn't be pleased by whatever the devs were trying to present them. There are full on DOCUMENTARIES on how the EA royally fcked this up... and how EA fcked bioware over again and again (Dragon Age Origins, Mass Effect 2, Mass Effect 3, Mass Effect Andromeda) and you brainless shmucks are out here talking shit while obviously having no clue what you are even talking about
Had so much hope for this game. I'll never forget that first time I started a patrol and dove from the cliff all the way down to the bottom of the waterfall seamlessly from air to water.
I'm just amazed that you got random people in your party. Amazed at people still playing this game lol.
I remember playing the demo and loving it. Stayed away due to the reviews but I remember the demo being awesome
I bought this recently this year when it literally went down to like £4/5 on the PS store and gave it a whirl.
I ended up getting 3 of the 4 Javelin suits and playing a good chunk of the campaign and the various missions. I actually had fun but I did understand the burnout of repetition. I felt like the story was good at best, but it had its repeated objectives with different cutscenes and slight changes.
While I did depart from this game, it still lived in my head as the "Iron Man RPG with guns and abilities" and I wished it was given more love and care.
The flying, the sound effects, the concept, someone in a game studio needs to steal this idea and develop this game to its full potential. 3rd person Destiny with flying. I'm sold.
i got this game a few years ago on christmas i got me and my cousin one and got to say this it's still fun and it's nice to see players online still play this game
I like this game honestly or at least the bones of the game
I thought the gunplay was fun and felt heavy, the traversal was amazing, and story was something that could have been fleshed out into something awesome. Everything just felt like an amazing alpha build of game to come
Knowing EA (and most AAA publishers these days), this game was probably designed to be single-player/coop but was suddenly ordered by some idiot executive to become a cookie-cutter live service looter-shooter instead.
it really was like that , the game was released about 4-5 month later only to impliment the sales options .
Actually that might had been the case
Bioware is usually an solo player producer and perhaps ea changed it so it can compete with destiny
Some even mentioned it feels like an destiny clone
@@R-XI_Sulla
Yeah, the Destiny comparisions always left me baffled.
This looks nothing like Destiny.
If already, Anthem was more of a Warframe Clone...
But the Media just loved the idea of "a Destiny-killer" and wouldn't f_ck off with that.
The Ironman-esque flying is still an absolute delight.
I remember playing this game with a buddy of mine. We got to the endgame, but stopped playing, because there either wasn't anything for us to do, or the missions would be so goddamn tough we couldn't complete them. I enjoyed the game for what it was worth, and just wish it had better support & backing
I'm actually bummed that the developers gave up on it. I loved the gameplay. It surely would have been awesome as a PS5 release with the DualSense features. I hope a studio does a remake that fixes the issues. This game gets more bashing than it deserves imo.
Devs didn't give up. EA cut it while they were most of the way done with the revamp update.
Devs were leaving the project left and right before the game even came out.
It's been known for ages that Anthem was a poorly thought out project that barely got off the ground.
It was a decent concept that was a complete mess when it came to developement and execution.
Would have been better if they had more support. The core gameplay isn't bad but there's nothing worth chasing.
I really enjoy the Storm Javelin gameplay and it brought Me back a few times. The last time however nearly all lobbies were empty, so it felt a bit empty.
The mech flying is so epic
this game has insane potential , personally i wanted this game to be so much more.please some development team pick this up
i cant even describe how excited i was for this game when it was announced
I personally love this game, I still play it today a lot, the graphics, world design and story are amazing, them gameplay is extremely entertaining, the flight is really cool, nice guns. It may be lacking in some content here and there but overall I love it, if only it were to get some attention from the devs and have consistent updated it would be #1
It seems like if pick the random mission thing, you're added to a group of new players doing the start mission, even though you're high leveled. I actually had this time where I was added to the group a few seconds before they finished the mission, so I didn't even got to do anything.
This game had so much potential. It was so much fun to fly around and even the fighting wasn’t terrible just the lack of content killed it. Me and my girlfriend binge played it for 3 weeks and then just got bored of doing the same stuff over and over.
Yeah the objectives were nearly aways the same
Go there, protect it, kill
But the fighting was fun in my opinion if you just went with the flow
I enjoyed this game at launch and for a few months, had a blast flying around and doing missions, then end game hit and wellllllll.....but damn I may fire this up again today
Literally reinstalled this today to see all my builds and i was surprised to find people still playing. Had alot of fun running grandmaster 2 and 3. Even got some legendaries.
First and only game I bought as special edition. Lesson learned. That being said it was great while it lasted and could have been amazing. They rly dropped the ball.
Man this game was so fun and had so much potential..
Remember when you couldnt sprint in the city? Felt like constantly slogging through 2 feet of water trying to get to the next dude to talk to.
i remember being so hyped about this game that i had severe blood loss from my head for the first ten minutes
I was really excited for the game I'm so sad they didn't do anything with it and dumped it I love the concept and the world it would be so sick
I play this every week still. It's a shame that they gave up on it😢
"The Tower" haha that slipped.
I still have this game in my console. I play it like, once or twice a month when I wanna have a refresher.
I loved anthem. I played all four machines and I had a decent build for all of them. I never got the rangers multiple combo grenade's but that was about it. Super fun and I jump in from time to time to play the legendary mission since you can't solo some of the other missions.
Played this since release and enjoyed every second, just wish there waa more to it
Imagine if they'd actually out an effort in to this being a solid open world single player RPG...
I was in junior college when this was finally released. I pre-ordered and part of the promotion were pins of each classes symbols. I really wish this game wasn’t abandoned.
Loved this game, the graphics and environment had been amazing, loved the tools and weapons.
watching this lowkey makes me want to reinstall it again and boot it up. i done that a few times since it launched years ago just to enjoy the flight and settings. this game had so much potential, but this certainly was a learning lesson as to the state of gaming, compared to what it was back when i was younger.

Honestly anthem is the game I will always go back and look at and say man what could have been if it had the time and a company behind it that actually cared about making a good game. Like you said the bones are there. The cancellation of anthem 2.0 was vary disappointing.
There is no one I know who picked up this game and hated it. They only hated how it was treated. I can’t even go back and play. Logging in is a huge hassle. This game shouldn’t have only been live play. It needed a solid offline mode. This game plays so amazing and I miss it daily. I hope some company can pick this up
So I just started playing this game this week and absolutely love it! My biggest gripe is the servers keep kicking me in the middle of big battles. Any tips and tricks?
Definitely fun to have in this game. A large faithfully playerbase as well
It's really not a bad game, I don't understand the hate. People are still playing it, I get on it from time to time
If you don't get it, you should watch some videos about its sad state from around the time it came out.
It's better now simply because Bioware made multiple updates to it across the whole 2018.
But then EA pulled the plug just 6 months before Bioware were to release a complete overhaul.
I played through all the missions and I actually enjoyed the game a lot. It it only received more love from EA and bioware...

Bioware were literally working on a complete overhaul, that would have saved the game and the IP.
EA decided to pull the plug 6 months before the Update's release, because they prefered the developers to focus on other games...
im thinking of buying this but kinda afraid of the servers being closed soon, any chance of that happening?
Thanks for doing this so I didn't have to! In all honesty though, it still looks sick af. The fantasy is strong, just really wish everything else fell into place. :,)
U know what… there’s tons of stuff I really liked about this game, too bad it was never realised to its full potential thou or to a half decent potential. That character customisation with the colours and materials… I wish that were in destiny.
this game was literally good is whaat sucks so bad about it. we never got the support it needed. collosus was dope af
Anyone have any good recommendations for games with a similar feel and flying mechanic?
I loved this game…. Might revisit it and complete what they made since I never act got very far
I'm still mad about this game. It had SO much potential. And they flat out screwed us on it. I enjoyed it when it first came out. But it was not a replay able game. Not the way it was advertised. But I will admit. The flying in the game was fantastic.
the flight mechanics were wasted being used on a EA game....
I was rewarded a key to this game at launch.. 6 hours is all i could take and im sure 50 minutes of that was traveling through load screens
Where are you plying this? I’ve tried a couple times over the last few years to boot it up and I can’t get past the title screen telling me the servers are down
So mad this game could’ve been amazing
I feel so sad because I like everything about this game other than how much actual content there is to do. I like the idea of the classes being the rigs, the looter shooter aspect, the type of environment that its in. This game had the potential to be so good. But EA just made it a cash grab, scammed so many people with it then dumped the shit out of it. Honestly criminal, because if anyone tries to pick this kind of game up again and revamp it. EA would just sue the shit out of them, so a game like this can never be made again.
I'm convinced that all these creators of games movies and many other things purposefully dont make the stuff that people really want for whatever their reasons prob just to torture us because why wouldn't you want money??? I'd easily drop $100 even $200 on anthem if not more if they brought it back
@@Galactus23 It's because they already got their money. Live service games are expensive without heavy microtransactions to keep up with profits. No reason to bring it back when the game died off the rip and no one has incentive to come back and play it.
The thing with this game was I felt like I never knew what I was doing? Or where I should go or anything so ended up flying about randomly looking for stuff to shoot idea was good
I still play this game pretty regularly. I still have a blast playing and I actually still see quite a few people in the game as well.
this was probably one of my favourite game ideas, it was just so poorly executed and eventually actually executed
Cant say it better. What a shame.
I am still mad about EA abondoning this game. The gameplay is really good. The world, voice acting, lore and music too. The problem was the content. 3 dungeons at launch with poor loot
I just want the flying mechanics on a new mass effect, is so fucking good, the sound the weight on your character, the animations.
I have RAM and CPU Issue ... some on have the same ? Or know how to fix this ?
I never understood why grown men always pick girl characters, for the life of me i just dont get it
The flying feels awesome, I tried to play this late last year but simply couldn’t due to the lack of players/connection issues. Game had a lot of potential that was completely squandered.
I loved the time I spent playing this game and my one and only problem with it was that there wasn't more to do. The gameplay loop was non-existent, as a single player story game? I loved it.
was one of the few that actually enjoyed this game a lot and played it till the very end when it first came out
This game always looked sick and felt really good to play it’s so sad it didn’t work
Do you still need to have ps plus to play it?
