I just started doing a proper routine (cleanser, toner, moisturizer) for the last few years and just the last year introduced vitamin c serum + retinol + glycolic acid + slugging in there and it’s been a little confusing on what can mix with what. Finding myself googling so much so often with varying opinions so this is useful!

Thank you Dr Sugai. I love your step by step approach to skin care, your in dept but simple explanations and your tried and proven approach. Your price comparisons was also very helpful. I had decent dark skin but since I hit my 50+ I have been having a lot of facial hyperpigmentation, also dark spots on my forearm (beauty spots we called the dots). My Dermatologist prescribed Tretinoin .025 % cream for night time and recommended daily sunscreen. I have been using the sunscreen daily but just been using Aveeno bar soap and sometimes Cetaphil cleanser (not a great fan because it doesn't foam) then Cetaphil night cream at bedtime. But giving me a regime like you explained would have been very helpful, wished I found your channel earlier. Will be following your advice. Please keep up the good work.

Yes this is what I need. Not "layering" = cleanser > toner > serum/essence > moisturiser > sunscreen. *That's just NORMAL order*

Interesting! I apply my peptide serum in the mornings with Vitamin C and Niacinamide. It seems silly to apply 3 serums and then sunscreen and then makeup. Maybe I can put my peptide with my evening routine. Eventually i could move to a nighttime moisturizer with peptides or niacinamide. I sure do appreciate all of the great information you share!

That might be too much for your skin. Olay does have plain peptide moisturizers (like the collagen peptide one that Dr. Sugai and Dr Alexis Stephens have both reviewed) that would probably be fine to use with your tret.
Parabens? I read it cause breastcancer - i only try to use natural products and of course my Retin, for many years now.
Can you please tell me if I can use Paula’s choice peptides or the ordinary buffet after Tretinoin?

Derms say if you want to use it during the day, make sure you are using sunscreen. They say there's not point in any of these anti-aging ingredients if you're aren't using sunscreen.
To use retinol in the day, I believe it also has to be photostabilizing. There's some that break down when exposed to sunlight so it's best to check that first. Otherwise yeah, you use it with sunscreen.
Hi Dr., I was wondering if a skinbetter routine, like Alto Defense, Even Tone Correcting serum, and AlphaRet would be sufficient as an anti-aging regime. I like that trio, but then I read about ingredients like growth factors and wonder if I should add that. Are peptides as effective at building collagen as growth factors? Thanks!
Growth factors are a type of peptide. Dr. Heather Rogers, MD has a video on growth factors and gives a good explanation. As for anti-aging, Dr. Shereene Idriss in her video on 50+ skin, talks about them in that one and so do some other derm channels.

Can I use a Retinol example; Kiehl's Fast Release Night Serum followed by Biossance Squalane, copper peptide rapid plumping serum at night or would that be too much? I have normal skin, and I'm 70 yr. young.
Do you use retinol every night or do you “ skin cycle”. I’ve been using retinol for a while and no issues with it. Just not sure if I need to take a couple of days off and do something else on those nights off. 🤷🏼♀️
Hi Dr. Sugai, I've been using PanOxyl 10% BPO cleanser and it's a little bit dry for me. Therefore I'd really like to know if the Cerave 10% BPO Cleanser is better so I could give it a try. Could you please make a comparison video about these two products?

Many years ago my derm put me on SkinTx to reduce hyperpigmentation. It worked extremely well. She had me use the exfoliant and the retinol after it at night and said only apply moisturizer on top if your skin gets dry. I never had to moisturize and after 3 months my skintone was so even and glowing.

If you are having good results, some derms say you don't need to increase the strength. There are some derms who have skincare routine videos for 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s+, if those would help.
Where do copper peptides go?
Would like to know. Some say it's ok to use with retinol, others say no. So I don't. I use it every other night, when I don't use tretinoin.

No, it can make your retinol more irritating by enhancing it's penetration in the skin.
