I agree. My SS is the perfect daily driver and has been nothing but reliable. Drivability is just like stock but just has more power at all rpm. Makes it easy to drive on icy Canadian roads and can still run a 13.6 in the 1/4 mile on the weekends. Install is way easier than a turbo as well. I’m going to do the same thing with my 6.0 Camaro.did the supercharger intake match right up to the cathedral port heads? Also for tuning the only thing you did was raise the fuel pressure? Please explain thanks!
When I did the swap from my 2002 Escalade to my 2005 SS silverado everything was basically identical because they both run the same LQ9 6L engine. Supercharger dropped right in, only a few minor accessories I had to change. As fas as tuning goes the supercharger did come with a generic superchip flash that works but it was not that great. I have a full EFI live custom tune and it is worth every penny to maximize the performance of the blower. They change everything like fueling, ignition timing, rev limiter, governor, torque management, trans line pressure and more.
How many miles you had prior? I have my 03 SS and been debating it, Mainly for the fun and of course like you hauling my toys around, Would you recommend it and how does it feel pulling trailers, Any kind of bad heatbsoak under load?
I’ve drove the truck lots before the supercharged and a decent amount on the new set up too. It’s literally the perfect daily driver truck with the blower. If you tow a lot I would recommend a bigger trans cooler. The small factory trans cooler sits behind the supercharger intercooler and when towing at 110-120kms/hr it’s in boost the whole time with roughly 2psi on flat highways. ( my car and trailer set up is roughly 6500lbs ) So I imagine the intercooler would be pretty hot and not leaving much cool airflow for the trans cooler. My trans temp will be at 100c casually cruising with the TCC locked on the highway with 10c ambient air temp. Start and stop traffic would probably over heat the trans in a short amount of time. ( I think dexron 6 ATF is only good up to 120c or so ) The truck tows the load no problem. Fuel mileage is horrible though. When towing my trailer I only get roughly 250kms a tank
Not much to it. The supercharger it’s self just replaces the stock intake manifold. Only hard part is how heavy it is! Almost a two man job lifting it into place. Then just mount the intercooler in your grill, some generic hose running to a separate reservoir and coolant pump. Then just add an inline fuel pump by your fuel filter. My Cadillac had a 255 walbro. My SS does not have a fuel filter connection so I put a new bigger pump in tank.
It is a pretty old generation magnason TVS 1900. ( 1.9L of displacement ) I think the mp112 is the same blower as well. A lot of the newer generation superchargers are much larger now a days.
@@JT2JZ yes you are correct the magnacharger mp112 was the old supercharger then got replaced by the newer tvs1900 and larger tvs2300... I still need to save more for mine 😭
Did you make your own plate to mount it or did you buy one?? Super interested in where you got the plate to mount a charger. Been wanting to supercharge my Tahoe but I can’t fathom $4k for an LSA charger and everything needed to just mount and get it running.
I bought a 2002 Escalade with the same LQ9 engine that already had the magnason kit installed so everything was already there and I just swapped it to my SS. The blower it’s self is more or less a one piece when mated with the intercooler brick and it just sits directly in place of the stock intake manifold. The only additional bracket you have to add is for the extra idler pulleys and stronger tensioner on the front of the engine. I couldn’t justify buying a new supercharger kit either. They are very expensive!
It tows awesome, tons of power but it’s crazy hard on fuel. You will be getting roughly 300kms to a tank hauling 6500lbs. Factory 410 gears in the SS do help. Trans gets a little on the warm side with the factory trans cooler now being behind the intercooler. If I towed lots I would get a bigger trans cooler for sure. Towing 6500lbs I was making 1-2psi boost on flat ground doing 110kms/hr on the highway so I’m sure the small intercooler does heat soak the small trans cooler pretty quick. Overall though it does very well! Almost similar to a stock classic body duramax diesel power wise when loaded.
I saw a Cadillac Escalade for sale with the same superchargerc the guy was asking 5000 for it but it didn’t have a title, looked like it was in an impound lot
All modern superchargers these days have intercoolers. If not your intake air temps are crazy high and your not actually benefiting that much from the added boost pressure. A few little things have to be changed and modified but nothing that is overly difficult.
No worries. Overall I do like the fit and finish on a supercharged truck set up over Turboes. My truck drives just like it did when it was stock. It just has more power through the entire rpm range when you want it! Makes a perfect daily driver summer or winter.
I’ve seen some pretty cool 4.8L builds that rev to the moon. Could always add boost and a cam to your current set up and just turn more RPM to get some decent numbers out of it.
The 4.8 will never make the same low end grunt of a 6.0 but with a decent cam and valve springs they can rev a lot higher and be really playful up top.
