1992- "You crazy fuckers have no excuse for not singing the fuck along!"
2012- "Join us!"
What 20 years does to a person lol
When you form a family everything changes
It'a a good things that a person changes in 20 years
0:38 Nice hi-hat adjustment
They seriously need to play eye of the beholder live sometime.
TheFruitMugger James said he can't sing in it
Buu Han where tell me where
Buu Han where did he say that?
@TheJimger: Decade? Last time was 1989, unless I missed something...

I saw that. I thought to myself, man somebody is gonna have a great life ahead of them haha :)

Isn’t that kirks daughter?
Surprisingly, the second vocals sounds good
Chao Men yes, since Jason left from the band, this is the best
Seriously! No one ever mentions how good Kirk's backing vocals are on this song!?!?
iodinesoul they are honestly, a lot like the vocals I do and plan on using when I actually record songs.
i dont care what anybody thinks or says, when the lead is playing their solo, the camera should be on them the whole time!
I agree with ya bro! It pisses me the fuck OFF! After all it is a SOLO!! Damn it!
amen
that riff at 3:11 just want to bang my head off!!!!!
Jean runkle you'll go blind😂😂
Lars must've been playing some Guitar Hero before this
Lmao
the day guitar hero broke lars
He got it done.
By this time in the weekend we had already spent almost 18 hours in the sun, seen over 30 bands and survived a complete Metallica set. Pardon us being a little calm on night 2.
lars is killing it!!
These guys have been jamming a longer time than some of you have been alive. They started being famous in the early 1980s. Do you expect them to be the same as they were in the early 80s?
My dad was born in 77 and my mom in 79. They have been grandparents since 2016.
I didn’t see Metallica live until 2017 and again in 2019.
And the shows absolutely kicked ass.
They didn’t get famous in the early 80’s lol. Started in the very late 80’s (talking ‘89) and mainly during the Black Album
@@louismaynard881 No one cares
I'm always surprised by the number of comments "James voice was much better at 21 than 50!" Uhh, no shit. How his vocal chords are even attached and not shredded is amazing. That early singing style ain't good for the chords. I would understand comments on, Lars increasing difficulty at keeping the beat, or even coming close to doing so. Also, C'mon , I see many dudes at 50 pushing 300 lbs and can't walk up the stairs, yet they line up on here and talk shit about Het at 50. I know, it's probably the 18 yr. old meatheads w/ such comments, but still. yo, 18 yr. old dude, get back to me when you hit 40. I know you think that day will never come, but lets come back to this subject then. Father time always wins in the end.
+Matthias Gregory Lars absolutely sucks and has taken any talent he ever had (if he had any) for granted. You can tell he NEVER practices or even tries to improve his craft. He's an embarrassment to professional drummers and he shouldn't even be labelled as one. He sounds like a complete amateur now.
Using his age as an excuse is a fucking pitiful one at that. There are loads of drummers, rock and metal drummers that still rip it up in their 50's and 60's. Look at Nicko McBrain. His drum parts are much harder that Lars' but he's even better now that he was in his 20's because he practices and takes his craft very seriously, along with the respect of his fans. Lars doesn't care about nothing but himself and his pile of money he gets to sleep on every night. Fuck Lars. He's a fucking joke of a drummer. I've been playing for 25 years and I would drum circles around that goof. Yeah I know he has way more money and fame but I don't give 2 shits about that. He disappoints his legions of fans EVERY time they play a show and that gets no respect from me. Your fans should always come first because they are the ones who not you there.
Fretta Mohetta I'll be the first to agree Lars was just beginning to play the drums, and touring wasn't enough or gonna replace proper technique etc. However, I'll ask you the same i always do on here. You submit the best song you've written or co-written, and if it kicks ass I'll add you as the first person that metalli-whined about Lars or James, that ever did jack shit, or his little brother Jimmy Shit.
The hard work, dogged commitment and take no fucking prisoners to build that shit from nothing IS the accomplishment. To barely play instruments or sing and write kill em all 18 months later, and the progress from there. Not Lars technique, James voice in 2015, or whatever the fuck else.
Seriously, I think a lot of you dudes don't give anything resembling a balanced and fair assessment of wtf Metallica has done. I'm a Megadeth fan as well, but sometimes I wonder if Dave employees Metalli Whiners full online time to spread shit online to help w/ the bitterness he clings to. Shit it'll kill you, you're a fukn legend Dave, let it go bro. Any a youse, let that shit go.
Matthias Gregory I never reached the success that Lars or Metallica did but I did accomplish a few things that the majority of these other trolls never did. I toured across Canada and the United States. I was on the Vans Warped Tour in 2007. My former band, called Bombay Doors was contacted by Steve Thompson, who produced Ride the Lightening and Master of Puppets (along with albums by Korn and Appetite for Destruction by GnR) to fly to Toronto to meet us and remix our 8 song ep. As well, I was a full endorsee of Sabian cymbals. One last thing, we also had a distribution deal with BMG.
If you do a search here on youtube, you will find 5 or 6 songs performed by us live at the Rivoli in Toronto. Graned, it was filmed with a camcorder so the quality isn't studio like but it is audible. Listen to the songs The Silver Orange, Woke Up Dreaming and Right Direction. These are professional, tight and complex rhythms that was driving us towards success but the band ultimately broke up because we did not get along. trust me when I say that I can drum circles around Lars.
+Fretta Mohetta Seriously, you're the first to ever respond w/ anything close to that. I don't need to verify and confirm, you have more than earned the right to talk stuff. I still 100% think that focusing on Lars deteriorating and often erratic technique is only 20% of the story. It's not really acceptable to not give a shit about being as bad as he's been at times.
I won't defend that. But the 80% that makes Lars accomplishments insane is the real story imo. It's the drive, work ethic, and what they accomplished from nothing. I respect you as someone who talks some shit, but went out there and did something and took your shot and worked your ass off. With Lars, his personality at times and erratic skills making him a bullseye, I totally understand why.
You're right. Even James states that Lars is the driving force behind the business of Metallica. It's just to bad he wasn't so driven about his craft. He has legions of fans that are so disappointed at live shows because he fails to perform. If I was him, I would make sure that I found the time to better my technique, learn new grooves and chops and keep my fans on their toes. It would also make Metallica so much tighter live. The fans deserve that from him, not his current attitude towards playing. That's all I'm trying to say is that his attitude sucks which bleeds into his playing, or lack thereof.
The fact that after over thirty years these guys can destroy like this should be enough to silence hate
Thanks man, it's because I love Metallica that I'm raging about this stuff. If you care about someone you don't have to justify everything they do
love this guitarsolo !
I always wished you could hear the bass a little more with them, because they have always had good bass players. I just wished they would show them off a little more that's all.
Chris J really it’s been ever since cliff died, maybe they feel like no one will ever fill his shoes entirely, idk, but I agree with you
Chris J honestly, can’t always hear Cliff either.
Glad to see parents getting their children into Metallica ^_^
You've made some good points which I agree with, if I'm hated for agreeing with you so what. You're right in some of the things you've said. The truth isn't meant to hurt it's designed to improve things. We all know Metallica have the capacity to be the most amazing metal band in the world and we want them to reach that level of quality every time. I get it but to my ears, they've sounded just like they always have live. They've been fucking up live from the start!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAMES!!!
That crowd is fucking enjoying the show!
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh yeah... The Shortest Straw!!!!!!!!! go go go...!!!!!! James!!
I was there.....
somewhere in that crowd.
probably in the back.
behind the mosh pit going on! 😊😆
my VERY 1st MetallicA concert!!
My favourite Metallica song because the chorus is perfect, the melodic riff is killer, and the solo is different from the other Kirk solos.
Holy shit that was fucking tight. Sometimes Metallica aren't so hot live these days but that killed.
I love this solo. Probably his best
and his dressing style is getting better and better too!
I get so pleased everytime i hear Kirk's back-up vocal on this song. It's very guttural
Shortest straw has been pulled for you!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lulu wasn't a Metallica album. It's Lulu FEATURING Metallica. GOD!
They use tracks live for the into for battery because it is recorded with three or four guitars. Most of Metallica's older stuff is overdubbed with arrangements that use more than just two guitars.
METALLICA ALBUM IN THE NEXT TEN YEARS WOULD BE APPRECIATED!
(I know I'm impatient)
PULLED FOR YOU (SHORTEST STRAW!!!) PULLED FOR YOU (SHORTEST STRAW!!!)
Seeing hot chicks that know the words to Metallica songs makes me happy.
Awesome weekend, was there, loved every minute of it.
Sounds sooo good!!!! Next year....I am so there!!!!
The huge screen behind them that shows the crowd is BADASS!
I am not one of the Lars haters but one thing I'll never understand is what it is exactly that makes Lars struggle during the intro. I am drummer, no where near the level Lars is or was but the intro to Shortest Straw is really really easy. All you have to know is how it's written.
im a drummer as well and yes, it is very easy to do the intro. the rest is, well, FREAKIN' HARD!!
5 year old comment, but it starts on the last 16th note of a measure. It's kind of tricky to count in if you haven't really had any training.
The intro is written by Lars him self so we have no right to say anything about that intro lol
Ah yes, how I love 90's sound quality
it saddens me to see them getting old cus i started becoming their die-hard fan for only two years.. :'(
I love how in touch tallica are with their really old shit these days FUCK YEAH nailed it.
Metallica wouldn't excist without him
My favorite band!!
Don't worry, I'm with you there. Don't bother arguing on youtube, it is mostly loyal teenagers who are dedicated to defending the great Metallica at all costs. It's really unfortunate that Kirk cuts his solos these days on awesome songs like Blackened and Shortest Straw.
for all of you lars haters, you should've been to a metallica concert to judge lars youcan't judge him by youtube sound quality. I've been to 4 metallica concerts and i promise you that lars beats are so loud and the double bass is perfectly listenable.
Awesome performance
Bad ass heavy metal!!!
Awesome man
I wasn't talking about the band. I was talking about the (majority of the) crowd they attract. Theres a lot more people at Slayer shows wanted to mosh than people at Metallica shows. It's just a different kind of crowd.
Always My Favourite Band!!!
For me this song its the most technical they´ll ever written, and its nice to see Lars still trying, I mean hats off to him when he recorded that song
4:59 WE NEED MORE OF THIS!!!
That guy with the beard n white Metallica shirt is on many of their shows
They're all awsome
dude i have failed to find a live vid from metallica were he doesnt play the double bass only on a few dyers eve vids from 2009 he didnt play the double bass but that song is hard as hell to play and he hasnt even played it live 20 times in his whole life so i dont blame him for that. but all other songs he plays the double bass.
Metallica still kicks ass !!
Thrust me,they still got it,went on their concert a few months ago,it was awesome....
Looks like im the only one who came here for the music and metal and NOT fight in the comments..
Very Good !!
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH
Still brutal after 10 years 👊🏿☠️👊🏿
best band ever today
Strong thing !
Great performance of ''The Shortest Straw''! \m/
THE SHORTEST STRAW
Sweet song guys...I wish you could come back to Fargo
videos de metallica o cualquier otra banda la euforia que hay aca es impresionante
YEAH
Rare moment this sound alive!
Have you even read what you've written?
"My point is that other bands of the same era CAN play fast if they want to.", "IF THEY WANT TO". Have it ever passed through your empty head that Metallica CAN play fast IF THEY WANT TO?
And take a look of the recent Metallica videos (starting in 2009), they ARE playing FASTER than themselves.
I get where you're coming from. In the 90's when everyone was raging against Load, I stuck by them. I have always loved Metallica, I don't care if they want to experiment or whatever. I just expect them to release well produced albums that have at least some decent songs & to not shit on people like their fans (ie Napster) or their friends (Jason Newstead, Dave Mustaine etc). If we really love Metallica we have to hold them to the same standards as other bands. You can't coast on past glories!
I love this intro... chunchun chaan chuchun churun churun chun chan
badass solo, I don't give a shit what people say about Kirk, he's a legend
Is it me, or is Lars getting better? Love to see his hair is back lol :D
Everyone says ..alight metallica is lizzy now.. but you don´t see them at mexico in the 8 night at the sport palace...... was fucking crazy every god dammn day
in fact i feel like in the old days when and justice for all be released ... like i before saided was fucking perfect
Amazing :)
go go MetallicA :)
well I watched a video of the m doing the Shortest Straw in the tuning room and James sounded pretty badass there
for sure
Good thing they're playing this song. They should be playing AJFA far more frequently
3:20 Thats a true Metallica fan!
BEST fucking song ever!!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Awesome solo part! Kirk~
I love how people base their opinions of how the sound off a youtube video. Go to one of their concerts and all you can feel are Lars' kicks. You haven't heard Metallica until you've been to one of their concerts.
Holy Shit actual double bass. I should know I felt it when I was there.
It's not that they forget, a lot of times they change things up like solos and lyrics to keep the show interesting and keep the show going. Most of Metallica's songs are 6:30+ minutes long and they don't want to get the crowd bored so they switch things up, cut things out.
finally i can hear this song with bass...
bah anyway... in may 2012 they came in Paris (Stade de France) : 74 000 people. they still have a lot of success our days, no doubt
Yea metal
They can played it live as well, why they don't have play Eye of the Beholder entire song since 1989? :(
Because it's long, hard to sing for James and there are many other songs to play as well
There are heavy songs then there is shortest straw.
I was there and called this song out loud when knew else knew what it was.
im seeing them in august
Name one good album they have released in the last 15 years. By 'good' I mean that it would stand up alongside the first 5 albums.
These guys fuckin rock it! All these haters on Lars try to play this!! He is a beast!!! Great FUCKIN band
yes
need to go back to that tone they had at Day On the Green 91
good lord....its like a family 4h highlight reel...come on...holding up infants?? I used to have to go through metal detectors....Attention youth of the world....enjoy every second 'cause time flies bro's.....Yesterday is just around the corner
lars turned into a drummer again, nice to see that :)
Que buen tema :3
