yeah i think it happens to the best of em as they age....he did a lot of drinking and coke at that time so its gonna fry your brain and you pay for it when you get older.....i also think after bob rock shitted on him during his era it took a bit out of him because he used to structure his solos a lot more but Bob wanted him to be more bluesy....granted he was able to still come out with good stuff it was just different then pre black album. I still think he's a great guitarist and has a good legacy though..... not to mention throughout the tour he's been getting sharper and sharper just listen to spit out the bone live in sweden this year he sounded amazing....I think in live situations its always good to change it up a bit....i mean if you want it exactly how it is just listen to the studio album live situations are supposed to have a bit of room for change or else it probably gets boring for them.
mdub2000. What? Kirk has actually always been a Blue's Based Lead Guitar Player. He's studied The Blues for well over 35 plus years now, so you are incorrect I'm afraid. You must be a "New" Metallica fan perhaps? I could be wrong. Kirk never did coke either, but he used to drink like a fish.

Sorry dude ive been a Met fan way back before kill em all, when we were passing tapes around.... if you dont know that all these guys dabbled with drugs and alcohol you’ve got to be kidding yourself...watch “Cliff em All”. Kirk is snorting coke right in front of the video cam...it is what it is these guys needed the energy and it was the life style back then....and yea of course all rock, metal, and thrash are originally blues based its the fundamentals because its the pentatonic scale man everyone uses it regardless if you learn a billion different scales... my point is in the expression....watch how the solo in the unforgiven was created and how bob wanted kirk to start slow with a blues feel instead of coming in hard...kirk was used to structuring his solos coming in a bit in your face then taking it else where....my point wasnt whether the guy can play blues or not its in the direction of his solos and how he plays these days vs. how he used to structure them. You must be one of those fans who thinks he’s an old fan but realizes this fan right here has been a fan alot longer.

njustice4all Don't see why they can't. People always say it's because he just doesn't have the voice for it, but he sings completely differently that thd 80s and he's being singing mostly the same way since then. I don't see the issue, he just sings the way he does most songs now, no need to sing loud and hard for that one song.
That kind of Riff which have the potential to drive you completely nuts while learning it.

time signature is just 4/4. the syncopated rhythm could be a small difficulty but its soo groovy and fun to play

I always loved this song. Heavy. The intro (which they didn’t play here), the galloping riffs, the brutal chorus and Jame’s voice, ...it’s a great song and a great album.

No. I meant Kirk. He's always done backup vocals too; manages a distinct growl you can hear here and always on Harvester of Sorrow.
Rob still needs improvement in backup vocals. He can't growl but does a lower pitched, "0" mouth throat sound that's more of a roar than a growl.
If you pay attention enough, you'll be able to distinguish them when they sing backup. Kirk does a growl and Rob does a roar.
They should play more Justice stuff!
They're in their 50s and have been on Tour for a very long time now, people had to give respect and show love instead of putting down negative comments, they're still doing great.

I hear the bass just fine on AJFA. I little EQ and is right there but it very thumpy. Jason played along with james note for note until the Black Album. That mix with layers of guitar tracks made it hard to hear clearly audible notes. Jason's first recording on the first garage days ep he was right up front in the mix.

eulldog it’s this purple guitar he uses. I’m a fan of Kirk and i swear (not recently) but when that guitar was knew, every time he brought it out you just knew there were gonna be fuck ups. Idk how but that’s just the truth.

Also for whatever reason he changed the way he plays this solo in all his lives. He does the same thing with songs like blacked, the second solo to one, and more. He just uses harmonics twice like he did here but he fucked up on remember what came after.

Anyone else notice that when the verse riff shifts from E to F# James just bars the two lowest strings instead of shifting his entire hand to play the G and A power chords? Pretty interesting, sounds heavier that way.
