Hetfield's voice is absolutely killer.
J Stone amen
Was
He looks kind of an "Adult man" but his voice sounds like when he was young XD
Until Load.
So was jasons
better than studio version
+Caleb Bartlett Sad but true...
They were always known to capture their true sound live, which is pretty awesome
Concert version always time better
And yet death magnetic was hated for its ear destruction snares by some.
Black Solac
best reply ever
That snare alone is worth the price of admission.
that snare is more than $1000
+Infinity and worth every penny.
Joseph Akbrud also tuning and a great audio engineer
Indeed. Randy Staub does good work.
It was a free concert.
This is how guitars should Sound, singers should sing and Drummers should sound
And Jason with the 6 string bass going
Too bad Metallica forgot about it years ago
+Walamonga 1313 they didnt forget, they are just alot older and have soo many kicking miles on their bodies from touring and kicking ass for 30+ fucking years.
Joseph Boer I'm not talking about their playing, I'm talking about their gear. Their current sound is terrible, it sounds weak and the distorion muddy instead of how they used to sound so heavy and the distortion was crystal clear.
Lars' white kit sounded amazing too, why did he change it?
Most of that is due to the people setting it all up. Whomever is the engineer behind it all is responsible for the sound for the most part. :P
The greatest snare sound in metal. Nothing will ever sound like it
12 years later...
@@graydonmathesonyoung28648It is ,Sad but true,,
🤘🤣
It'll never sound better than this
You`re right - it`s sad but true

Live shit Mexico 1993
sad but true lolapalooza 1996.
Well.. you were wrong in 92 🤣
I wish James never aged......that VOICE! It's incredible!
but kinda fuked up, Black Album stoled his voice
D b K more like alcohol stole his voice. It just so happened that it blew out recording that particular album.
Generic Gaming Commentator 16250 it blew out coz he decided to cover So What! which was well out of his vocal range
KiLl3R Mem3StAR he still had voice back in 1999 watch the woodstock concert but after he lost it forever
Taamsay 25 I though it blew out while recording...or performing "so what" due to improper singing/screaming
THAT SNARE, THAT BASS AND THOSE GUITARS. HEAVY!!!!!!!!!
+vocals
Id fucking kill a man to experience this concert
+Chris White I think about a hundred people or so died at this concert
+Anthony McBroom This is in Russia so it was probably 100 journalists :).
John myung is no longer the first person to use a 6-string bass
One of the sludgiest, heaviest, most brutal performances of Sad But True ever.
moscow 2019 at around 5:55 is the heaviest vocal hes ever done
@@thatonemetalhead4176 yep, Moscow 1991, 2019 and Irvine 96 are best performances of Sad But True

"Hate!"
4:36 Nothing gets more metal than that gunshot.
nope, a gunshot followed by hetfield's " hate" is more metal
@Evyatar Hadar Old comment, but look for "Tama Artstar II". Alternatively you could look for a Granstar or Superstar, but all are quite difficult to find.
notsowheelycrazed brandon Ikr I’ve been trying to find a Tama Granstar ii just like Lars had on the justice tour there literally extinct
@@jantzenallen3077 The best you can find these days are Tama Rockstar series, they are beginner kits of the 80's but they come in the monstrous kits/sizes.
notsowheelycrazed brandon yeah lol I wish tama would bring back the granstar and artstars
Sounded so much louder and clearer and heavier back then!!!!

That fcking snare *-*
4:08 Jason's backing vocals is FUCKING KILLER, as it always been
And that lions roar at 4:37 is so sick
I agree about Jason!
I saw them live on this tour, stage left with Jason in front of me. Hardest worker I’ve ever seen. Never understood why they canned such a killer sideman.
@@michaelsmulik They didn't can Jason. He quit.
I gotta admit clicking on the timestamp was pretty tempting but I decided to listen in utter anticipation instead, in order to honor the performance better
That guitar tone is absolutely monstrous
that snare is fucking awesome!
Weird that 12 years later they're using trash can lid as snares
back then when Sad but true was a "new shit". Nowadays James introduces it as "old school".
That snare is a shotgun, the bass is Godzia burping from the bottom of the Marianas Trench and Hetfield's voice is God passing a kidney stone made of broken glass and vinegar while eating sand.
"God passing a kidney stone made of broken glass and vinegar while eating sand"
amazing
The riff is Pearl Jam - Even Flow's powerful brother

6onza well it's 1991 so colored video was still pretty new, but audio was going on for a long ass time

ass2mouthallday well in 1000 years 30 years after invention will seem pretty new so just give him a few hundred years
@@tomboomeronacrv This was recorded on a tape thats why it's so poor in quality. Tapes back in the day could capture 480p60 max. That was the standart on TV. Films could capture colored video at 4K back in the 70's. The displays weren't even close to 4K at the time so we can only see them in their best quality today. Some even claim that when 8K resolution becomes more mainstream, old films from 70's and later could be viewed at nearly 8K. There is Pink Floyd's 1988 concert go search it up and it's nearly 4K on CZcams because it was recorded on a 35 mm film, the highest quality film. Thats insane. Anyways I love video quality shit so I invaded thiis comment with weird stuff but I hope I enlightened you.
@@tomboomeronacrv czcams.com/video/WFUfOpEMIR8/video.html Here is the link for the 1988 Pink Floyd footage. It's not 4K but still 1080p. I think this can even be rendered in 4K in the following years if the films were kept clean and nice. As a film vs tape comparison, you can watch this czcams.com/video/hokGXqEsCXk/video.html. It was recorded in 1995 on a tape and the max resolution for it is 480p even though it has been remastered two times I believe.
James' singing in 1991 holy shit
Hetfield is one of the best vocalists ever, so much energy and drive behind his voice
amen ✨
He is good but you have to listen to DIO.
2:17 epic lars ulrich
The beat is so laid back that Lars is almost falling off the chair.

Maybe the best
The BEST song

"HAAATE"
Love James voice here!!
Most powerful "Hey" EVER at the beginning :) Actually the raw power of this Sad But True performance remains unmatched.
This lineup at their peak .... they played their hearts out for two hours, show after show, and there was energy to spare. I would choose to live the decade 1986-1996 over and over again for a lifetime if I could.
That fuckin snare sound gets me rock solid. So good
The best live version EVER of this song. And Hetfield sings at his best. He Hasn't got this vocal authority anymore.
1991 Day on the Green....probably the best
We can't have everything from life.

5000 a week
Motor78 -- Before non tangible digital media became widespread, I would buy this CD several times because I wore the others out handling them. Had two stolen, and probably bought the same CD at least 4 or 5 times. When my collection was stolen, this was the first album I replaced each time. I miss my gold plated one. Christ, Lars' drums sound fucking massive here. Really makes this performance that much more heavy
This shit is real, 4:35 darn I still don't understand why today if we have better technology and stuff and everything, sometimes concerts do not sound as loud and energetic as this.
If only they had modern day amps and effects and better quality speaker that shit would be the end of the race to be the best
ironically, that better tech is why it sounds weaker. Today they use a lot of processing and virtualization to achieve a more "consistent and even" sound. Better at the board and cleaner for working on later for live records and such. BUT, a byproduct of this is you lose a lot of the power and variance. Maybe for jazz or an orchestra that's better? But not for metal. I too miss the old days when it was less filtered and more raw.
Best performance of sad but true \m/
I have never found this metallica track to be sonically pleasing. But my god. this fucking rips
that vocals... drum sound and guitars... what brilliant performance!
their sound is MASSIVE.
Het's voice was so powerful and angry during these years!
Well you can say what you want about Lars... but in this era, he was unstoppable. That powerful beat blows most technical shit out of the water because it just GROOVES man.
His voice and authority back in the day... Damn. And Lars a much better drummer than now.
Lars got lazy and stopped practicing and actively said as much.
NEW AUDIO!!! DELUXE BOX SET!

I come back to this video here and there best performance in my opinion
Metallica is expressing what I am feeling inside.Feels gratitude for them to release this onto the earth
Я тута был😀🤘
Damn the sound of the drums just packs a knock out punch.
To all the peole saying bad things about Lars's drumkit! Recently in an interview he said it 's the same he used since 1986! In live shows it 's amazing! The bass drums is so powerfull, that it shake's your entire body! I've been to the Big 4 in Sofia! It was amazing! They sound amazing live! Well not like in 1991 but pretty awesome! Go to a live concert and u will see! About the drums and guitars in videos its all about the mixing! Nowadays its pretty bad mixing! Wish it was like 1991 but people change and grow older ! Enjot the fakt that there was and is such thing as Metallica! For me - they are GODS!
